My Bathroom Sink Makes Gurgling Noises, There's No Blockage. How Can I Get Rid of The Noise without Calling a Plumber

I've tried using boiling water followed by bicarb soda then white vinegar then more boiling water but I still have the gurgling noise.
Is there an over the counter product that may help? Thanks in advance.

There's likely the beginning of a build up of stuff. Go to bunnings and buy one of the sink clog tool things for under $10 and poke it down, twirl it about etc. There's two types the barbed plastic one is good for pulling out hair, the metal one is good for pushing stuff through and maybe pulling a little out.

  • Try boiling water in bath drain or the floor drain.

Put a dishwasher tablet over the drain before pouring boiling water over it, will clean the drain a bit at the same time. It'll also heat and remove the adhesive keeping the drain cover in place, but that just makes the cover easier to remove and clean.

  • We had a sink keep blocking, and we took U pipe off a few times, turns out was blocked at the actual hole, it was one of those modern sinks and just had to spin the metal push down thing.
    Worth a look.

  • There's a documentary out ATM where a guy shows how to properly clear a bath tub drain.

Try a drain cleaner from woolworths. Costs less than $7. Contains sodium hydroxide so be careful to follow the instructions.

  • How fast is the water running down? If it’s flowing freely it could just be that it’s running too fast in which case cleaning it won’t help.

  • There's a hair in there

( more likely a fatberg type growth, that's still allowing most of the water past. Or 'possibly' you have outlet pipe with less 'fall' than required to exit at a decent rate

It can be restricted without being blocked.

Have you opened the the pipe under the sink (with bucket beneath to catch S-bend water) ?

  • Mo flo is your last over-the-counter resort before a plumber, if it is indeed a blockage and not something else. 99% virgin sulfuric acid. Please wear gloves and goggles and use in a well ventilated space.

  • Try actizyme pellets.

  • Try a plunger (https://www.bunnings.com.au/kinetic-black-rubber-plunger-dra…) - if you can't get a good seal, cover it with water, and give it 10 pumps and see what happens.

Can confirm, did this with wife.

      • And what happened?

        • You don't want to know. I promise you

  • Undo the plastic pipe under the sink, the s bend will be full of hair, makeup & other rubbish. Collect the water in a container but don't pour it down the sink while the pipes are disconnected! Failing that call a plumber just not one on a fridge magnet.

  • ……also you may have an issue with tree roots somewhere in your plumbing system IF ( as you say) , there is no blockage.

  • Once a month I pop this stuff down our drains. Never had a blockage.

  • The water runs through fast it just makes the gurgling sound at the end of the flow.

    • Sounds like a blockage further down the pipe. Water backs up behind that blockage, then as it empties it creates a suction that causes the gurgle at the sink.

The gurgle is the air sucking through the s-bend/p-bend below the sink.

To test, fill a bucket with water, and pour it down the sink. If there is a blockage, the water will drain fast at first, then dramatically slow once the pipe fills up behind the blockage. If you're lucky, the increased pressure might clear the blockage.

  • In summary, try everything under the kitchen sink
