[SUBS, Prime] Saltburn @ Prime Video

401

a new release movie on Prime Video which is included with Amazon Prime membership.

I don't know if it's good or not. trailer reveals story is basically about poor loner who never gets invited to anything manages to get his foot in the door with popular rich kid by showing kindness. he opens up about bad parents and trouble at home at which point rich kid then invites him to come stay at their place. high tension and weirdness is implied such as rich family members describing him as "not like the last one" as in they invite random people to stay on a regular basis maybe as part of a ritual.

trailer makes it seem a bit like "Midsommar" but small british rich family instead of small quirky european community.

    • I believe this is a sarcastic post trying to demonstrate the lameness of the [SUBS] tag.

    • Possibly an adaptation of "Great Expectations"?

  • +3

Not much of a bargain if you don’t have a subscription and to buy/rent the movie OR it’s not a bargain if you already have a subscription and it’s still included with it… 🤔

i want to see useful stuff about the streaming service (eg subscription deals - things where I am going to save money). I dont need a notification everytime they add a new show.

        • +11

I guess OzBargain should cater to kamelataturd instead of, you know, the votes?

        • +2

Invalid logic. How do you know whether it's useful to you, or not, until it's posted and you see it?

          • -3

            sYnTaX eRrOr

its not a bargain - it is not a discount on an item that previously required payment. but keep trying to manufacture an argument

            • +3

@kamelataturd: You're the one who claimed you want to see "useful stuff", and now you are shifting your position to simply "its not a bargain". It seems you're the one trying to manufacture an argument, and/or just having a whinge for a sake of a whinge.

You've already been told how to avoid Subs posts since you aren't interested in things which didn't previously require payment.

    • +10

Don't really need to add a comment saying how you don't like sub posts. Just ignore it and move on

      • +7

It's like those people who dislike someone's post on Instagram, and have to go into the comments to say "unfollowing" or "unsubscribed". I mean, come on, it's not a freakin airport, you don't have to announce your departure, just grab your stuff and go

        • "It's like those people who dislike someone's post on Instagram, and have to go into the comments to say "unfollowing" or "unsubscribed"."

that's an interesting observation. also what's interesting is if say you commented this way a lot on facebook etc where everyone knew who you were. I reckon it's just "announcing" to everyone that you like to whine/complain a lot about insignificant things.

also kinda unrelated but someone told me I should behave online with the assumption that at least 1 other person has access to my account (usually someone very close to you). just wanted to pass that on.

funny story about this is when I was younger a friend actually had been accessing my account for a long time. one day I went to the toilet, came back out and his back was turned and on the PC and he was logged in as me reading all my messages etc. I caught him out and it was awkward as hell. anyway yeah he must have been spying on me somehow everytime I typed my password.

          • +4

@harshbdmmaster718: You should definitely behave online, specially on more "public" places. It's not just because someone might identify you, but also from a moral standpoint of being decent human being to others.

            • +1

@pichxlonco: "but also from a moral standpoint of being decent human being to others."

yes that is expected. but at the same time the bar for being horrible is really really really low. e.g. I have been on VR chat where there are users who literally just repeat the words "kill a n*gger" over and over and over and sometimes break out into a song with those 3 words as lyrics (and yes I can tell it's an actual person saying it not a voice bot). like that's all they do I see them like twice a week and that's all they spend their time doing. 😂

also can't edit my comment above. but yeah I am easy going so I really tried to brush it off with the least amount of drama possible. but thinking about it now I probably should have checked for hidden camera's etc. maybe he managed to remove them before I noticed.

            • +1

@pichxlonco: I came back to add more to the "VR chat" part because reading it back I thought without context it seems a bit attention grabby.

well to keep it short, some users seem to want to target as many people as possible with hatred. in this case the manner in which they "express themselves" seems like a calculated way of stirring up bad feelings and self hatred in younger people who are of darker skin tone (anyone darker than white). I think this way of creating conflict in another person e.g. "making them hate part of themselves" is particularly cruel, especially to people who are just beginning to try and find their place in the world.

  • So is Fred Flintstone in this I hear this movie is a Gay old time!

  • +1

Awesome. Wanted to check this out at the movies but missed it. Cheers OP!

    • +1

      thanks Pinchy.

I don't know why I am getting all the users who are punching down (1 up doot and 2 negs already). is it because of my username? or maybe it's because it isn't a disney post.. I know disney fans be out in full force these days lol.
meanwhile other SUBS deal posted 2 hours ago has 54 positive votes and 0 negs. and the one before the movie "Resident Evil" has 142 positive. ¯_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯

      • +2

They probably assume there's something homoerotic about the film.

        • +1

          ah i see.

that's just what I commented/assumed below because I was going off all the other comments here. (not sure but I think that's what they are referring to)

        • Don't take it from me. This review says it is 'disgusting': https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/movies/primes-saltburn…

          • +2

@Dmz111: sure. but also seems news.com clickbaity to me.

why is horrible stuff in horror type films "OK" because it's part of the plan and sometimes reviewed as "Awesome". but when it's a smarter movie that has psychological weirdness or graphic scenes it's called "disgusting"?

          • @Dmz111: if you want to test your limits for "what's disgusting". maybe try that film crowds walked out of at that movie festival lol (these were people who have watched a lot of movies).
I think the movie was Antichrist.
I've watched it. didn't fully get it, so I don't get to "hate it".
what made me lol though is the quotes from people who left the festival. such as "it's not art!". 😂

  • Why are these being added??? I’m not seeing any bargains? Otherwise I might start posting tipping point episodes

  • +4

Be prepared to gasp… several times

    • -1

ok. going by some other comments here. I'm assuming lots of queer scenes??

at least I am not enough into movies to know the reference, but is that what "Great expectations" refers to?

      • +3

Put it this way, queer scenes is not something I would gasp at 😁

        • oh ok. thanks freelife.

I think I am more interested now because of the mystery. the comments here are really confusing me making me think it's either 100% gay only movie or that it's some kind of boring political satire.

          • +1

@harshbdmmaster718: i dont get the "gay" thread running here, maybe these are all the people who havent actually seen the movie…

to tell you how thats NOT even a/the thing in the movie would to be to ruin it and the reveal

            • @amosmilburn: ok sure. just confused is all. I dunno maybe they watched the trailer and instantly thought "that's gay" I dunno lol.

here are two more movies I think are along a similar theme (isolated/hidden community involving masculinity/patriachy) that I haven't watched.

              GOAT: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4437216/

              and

              Manodrome: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14813150/

I have a feeling I will like Manodrome more than Saltburn. while I might think GOAT is worse than Saltburn.

              • @harshbdmmaster718: to say too much more would ruin the movie for those who want to watch it

its not a bad movie by any means, its confronting in scenes but hardly worth the "outrage" some are spouting (i expect its the same faux outrage used as always to drive ticket sales), but well made and executed

                • +1

@amosmilburn: "but well made and executed"

                  thanks will watch.

                  • @harshbdmmaster718: i look forward to your thumbs up or down on it

                    • +1

@amosmilburn: Saltburn was good. I wouldn't say totally my kind of film, but it was interesting and as you said well made.
it kept my interest and I liked that it was not your typical hollywood movie. I don't know if I fully understand or agree with the messages (about the ultra rich and how they live/should be treated etc) but it was entertaining and that's what movies are about. they are fictional stories that's the whole point of movies. I liked it.

maybe any criticism would be it didn't really go too deep into how the ultra rich are so "far different" to the average person and the details such as psychology and experience and why. it was kinda 2D on that topic but I guess the movie is a bit tongue in cheek anyway so it had to be a bit "comical" or two dimensional.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Watched this movie yesterday and I must truly say and firmly believe that Barry Keoghan (he was great as the Joker as well) is the peak modern day Pacino and de Niro of the past.

Watch it peeps for its top notch production and performances. 😘

            • @pacificstorm: "Barry Keoghan"

I had to look up what he looked like. but I remember him as the creepy kid in "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" which was one of the most confusing as hell movies for me. I was so confused as to how the story was playing out I didn't even wanna watch it again lol.
later on I read somewhere online that it has a lot of references to a bible story?? which is why I probably didn't understand it at all and it was just weird as hell like the way the characters and story connected didn't make any sense to me and almost as if "they made it up as they went along".

              • @harshbdmmaster718: The Killing of a Sacred Dear is one great movie from the incredible director Yorgos Lanthimos of another superb movie of his, Dogtooth and amongst others. 👍

                • @pacificstorm: I enjoyed and understood "The Lobster" a lot more. but Sacred Deer was just way over my head. I guess one thing I can agree on is it stands out. because usually if I don't fully get a film I watch it a 2nd 3rd time and I appreciate it. but I didn't wanna watch Sacred Deer again…

  • not reviewing the thread, just the movie

ill watch almost anything with Rosamund Pike in it

its just a film made for a certain demographic, and for boorish people to insist "you really must see" so they seem either cultured or edgy, take your pick

saw it, the best part was the end and the reveal depths the protagonist went to…and folks, them was some depths

the second best part was the parents in total denial at the goings on

you dont need to see it….

    • +3

      thanks for no spoilers.

      "Rosamund Pike"

I liked her in Gone Girl.

      • +1

I liked her in Die Another Day.

        • Die another day is before my time.

she was also in "Doom" with The Rock. but don't think that won any awards. 😂

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Really?

Bit past your bedtime then, isn’t it?

            • @Manny Calavera: nah

I think I have a vague memory of it because I probably saw it on a TV in a store. but I definitely did not watch it since then which means I never actually watched it.

  • Love this movie!

  • Sh!t movie. Got grossed out and shut it off somewhere is the middle.

    • bigbadboogieman got grossed out by a movie and had to pull the plug??

      doesn't add up. 😂

      • clever

      • That scene of the guy licking/drinking the drain water after….. That got to me. Had to do a TV detox and watch Cartoon Network to get back to normal.

        • well I appreciate you being honest. so even the boogieman has his limits.

I watched the movie expecting something similar to "Midsommar" so I expected the weird and shocking stuff.

  • I hovered over this last night but the summary made it seem like Brideshead Revisted updated. Obviously I was wrong. Might have to give it a go.

  • +1

Don't know what all the fuss is about. Was warned about 2 "disgusting" scenes - one was a bit weird but whatever, no nonconsensual violence - the other scene I thought was hot AF.

    • …one was a bit weird but whatever, no nonconsensual violence - the other scene I thought was hot AF.

The movie was an alright psychological thriller but this comment is probably better. Which of the two scenes were hot AF? So many questions? You kind of think you know which one was the hot one. But then you're like maybe he meant it the other way round?

      • I mean, when you think about it, his sheer overall idea was probably the most "disgusting" thing - murder, theft, all that - but no-one seems to care about that, just that he showed a bit of a necrophillic kink that really hurt nobody.

I did forget one other scene which I thought was a bit yuck but hey, that was just another thing he did on his own and hurt no-one in the process so whatever, if it floats his own boat and doesn't affect others then I wish him as many filthy bath tubs as he desires.

    • yeah just watched it. nothing really stood out as "oh my *** turn this off" or thought it should be "pulled from australia".

I might not be a film buff but I've watched a lot of films with questionable/weird scenes from when I was teen. one film from memory that stands out is the one where the character banged half a dead pig carcass. but even at the time I understood it so it's not as outrageous as many might claim. humans are sexual creatures. at a certain point we resort to our most inner subconscious needs and desires.
I'm not seeking these films out by the way, just watch whatever is on. the movie I describe above was on sbs. one film someone just lent to me is a documentary about the abortion process. I expect to be confronted by the film but at the same time the movie I described aboveabove depicts themes and scenes of abortion/fetus and manipulation of dead bodies/animals/fetus so I don't "think" it's going to shock me.

  • I liked it.

I don't mind a heads-up on film (or series) available on streaming services. Recommendations would be preferable to "this is streaming" though.
I can see what's streaming. I struggle with option paralysis so recommendations or reviews are what I'd find helpful. Even if that info is in the comments, still helpful for me. :)

    • "Recommendations would be preferable to "this is streaming" though."

yeah I read a few comments that say that on posts like this. but at the same time I have confidence people know their own preference and have their own "content filter".

or maybe you are like me and just watch whatever is available or new at the time, or just what others close to you recommend.

  • Op says "I don't know if it's good or not."

We can't have every show out there posted, just because it exists on a sub.

(Also, dunno what the whole story is, or what people wrote was shocking etc. Tried watching it before this deal was posted.
It just drags too much at the start, about how the guy is unpopular. Then by lending a bicycle to another guy, suddenly he's in with the popular crowd?
"Talented Mr Ripley" was better on that story line.
Headliner actors, who you see on the advert, don't appear in the first 20 or more minutes. Stopped watching by that point)
