If for a motorcycle helmet, I would suggest looking up the forcite helmet range. Costs a bit more, but is an entire carbon fibre helmet with the tech built in, and has more features. Ends up being cheaper when factoring the helmet into the cost.

Disclosure: yes I have an association with forcite

Helmets are very personal to head shape/size. Might be a tough sell for a lot of people. Also, given the prominence of cardo/senna, you likely lose the mesh feature unless you can convince all your friends to also buy the same helmet?

Personally I don't like the idea of throwing away a bunch of tech for no reason when the helmet reaches end of life, but there are certainly some cool 'smart helmets' out there now.

      • No mesh, but you use your phone with it, so usually do a group call or use use another voice chat app. That way not everyone needs to be on the same system.

I get what your saying about throwing away the tech, but the tech is bolted in, and iv had some fellow riders damage their helmet from coming off, and forcite allowed them to just buy a new shell then fit their existing tech into the new shell.

Should also keep in mind that the whole idea of attaching peripherals to your existing helmet is a bit of a grey area in road law. Some deem it as a modification to the helmet (which is illegal), some don't care. IV had a mate get booked by HWP when had a G9 accompanied by a gopro camera mounted to a helmet. Marked it down as "modified helmet does not meet safety standards".

        • Yeah, I agree with the grey area of this particular rule, where I have had the complete opposite experience to your mate. But in my personal experience, I have never been booked at all. I have a Sena20s and a Front-facing GoPro mount.

Gone through booze bus checks and pulled over when VicPol have their "motorcycle blitz" every now and then, no comment at all about my setup.

My GoPro mount is only using the sticky mounts and the Sena 20s is connected like a "clip" almost. So yeah YMMV.

          • @Fahlee: Yeah I agree, before going down the route of forcite, I had a helmet with a comms and camera add on, I was riding for 10 years and never got in trouble, closest I got was a cop questioned me how it's attached and told me about the "no modifications" rule, then let me go. But there are certainly people out there that have been booked for having stuff attached, I guess it also comes down to how you handle yourself in the situation, if your an Ahole, then you will get treated like an AHole.

I do believe this part of the law needs to be more defined and they should put some clearer guidelines into what's legal and what's not.

    • Would have love to buy one but no where to try a fit so bought a shoei instead.

I see amx selling them now but had no stock to try.

      • I know they have demos every now and then, if you are keen id recommend following them on FB, and as you said they are starting to show up in some stores.

Completely agree with the idea of not buying until you try it on though, helmet is not the sort of thing you just buy without making sure it fits perfectly.

    • how is the connectivity with other comms units on the market? Can it pair up cardo and sena? simultaneous chat and music sharing?

      • +1

        Non-existent. Forcite doesn't support Bluetooth/mesh comms.

      • Doesn't pair directly with existing systems, but me and my group all have an assortment of comms systems (forcite, Cardo, Sena, ALDI), we just all jump in a group phone call or use a voice chat app.

With how cheap data is, Discord works suprisingly well and we actually prefer it, as when we all split up to head home we can still chat

    • HahahahahaSo much NO. Forcite are complete and utter 💩. Noisy AF and way overpriced. Sure, the tech is OK. But adding customised tech to a much higher quality helmet like Shoei, AGV, Arai etc is always going to be the way to go.

I couldn't get the helmet off my head fast enough. And this isn't just an anecdotal comment - I've spoken with others that rode one or two laps at SMSP and swiftly brought it back to the garages to swap out for their own helmet.

Tech doesn't save lives - quality helmets with minimal wind/road noise does.

      • It sucks that you had that experience. I do agree that quality helmets do save lives.

      • I would not say it's that bad, but I tend to agree. I have seen and tried one - it does not feel as good as either Shoei or Arai for the price. And yes, it is quite noisy.
