Ngl that keypad looks awful. Num lock is on the opposite side, 0 is half the size it usually is and slash is a tiny little button.
Other companies can do it fine on same size so why have Asus decided to reinvent the wheel lol

    • +1

yeah but how many times are you pressing num lock? I don't think it's that bad

      • +2

It's more the fact it messes up muscle memory on that whole row.

        • I personally think it's fine. It's odd for the first couple of days, but after some time it'll be OK
I used Mac at work and Windows at home, the unique keys of the 2 systems are so different (Ctrl, Alt, Winkey for Windows, and Cmd, Fn, Option and Ctrl for Mac)
I didn't use Mac a lot before but just wanted to try something new when selecting the new work laptop, so I picked Mac rather than a Windows laptop

For the first couple of weeks I felt so painful and stupid that I chose I so unfamiliar one
But after sometime I switched seemlessly (e.g., use Command+C/V for Mac and Ctrl+C/V for Windows for copy/paste). I do it so natually without second thought

Yeah I agree. That layout is horrible and feels unnecessary.

I didn’t even notice when having a play and feel. Hopefully Mrs won’t care. Only time I’ve deliberately touched num lock is to disengage it if I’ve inadvertently touched it before LOL

Anyway for entry level spec laptop that met my minimum needs, thought this was ok. Asus reliability is generally good. I likely won’t touch an entry level Acer, Dell or Lenovo again after poor reliability issues I’ve experienced. Is there anything better you would’ve suggested with these min specs at this similar price?

      • There's plenty of cheaper and (IMO) superior models in 512GB storage. I'm assuming you can't/don't want to replace the SSD though which kinda limits your options..

        • +1

          What do you suggest?
          Interested.

        • Yeah I was only looking at straight out of box package, min 16gb ram, min 1tb storage, min 15” screen, did see “good” Lenovo deal with smaller screen and half the storage posted here but not want I wanted unfortunately https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/821667

nice thing about Asus is they'll last.

    • +1

What? Since when do they last?

      • The expensive ones last. Same for other brands. You get what you pay for. That's what I've found anyway.

for a refurbished one back in 2019, upgraded team & hdd and it's still my main laptop.

got a 2021 one for my other half, still powering along. friend for one in early 2020, still going strong.

        Maybe we're just lucky?

      • I have an Asus laptop I bought in 2010. Still going strong. Recently had HDD replaced with an SSD and memory upgraded. Runs perfectly.

  • Can anyone confirm that the USB-C port supports charging and if so how many Watts is required?
