  • Is it better than the original?

      here's what I heard/read somewhere.

original was actually uniquely and well tuned which made it stand out from other similar priced options. but there are always users who disagree with the tuning and submit feedback for the next version. feedback resulted in the Zero 2's but there are physical changes (e.g. cable etc) not just tuning changes.

tuning changes to Zero 2 makes it very very similar in tuning to other similar priced options. so tuning wise kind of two steps forward one step back.

Zero 2 Tuning TLDR: compared to Zero 1, Zero 2 has raised bass lowered treble peak (above 10k).

I tried a production copy at his cafe/shop in Singapore last month and to be honest it was very difficult for me to tell the difference in tuning compared to my original zeros, however the main noticeable difference for me was how much better clearer the Zero 2's are at high volumes.

  • Will these sound better than a wireless set a fair bit higher in price?

  • How are IEMs for gaming?

    • I wear them more than my Beyerdynamics now (I've got the Zero:Red). I'm no pro, but I love them. I play games like Tarkov where sound is huge

    Any similarly cheap DACs?

  • How are the shells for tiny ears?

  • Paid sub $20 AUD (13.50 USD part of a larger AE S&S order) for the Zero which is my daily driver. The nicer cable and translucent case are nice (the Zero's (1) cable cable is a bit stiff), and for these sub $20 USD IEM's I can't see the point of aftermarket tips and cables.

I will keep mine due to me liking the curve, which is very neutral. Really like 7Hz products, seem to be much better than some other dishonet players (cough/cough/KZ)

    • "and for these sub $20 USD IEM's I can't see the point of aftermarket tips and cables."

yup totally agree. there are so many budget options these days thanks to Chi-Fi. choose one that fits your preferred tuning and comes with a decent cable. Zero 1 even though you mention slightly stiff was leaps better than other included cables so added even more to the value.

      • There are times where I prefer a stiffer cable. It doesn't seem to get a tangled in my case and it doesn't flap around as much making a nuisance of itself.

The more flexible cable seems to work better in the office sitting down.

One thing I do miss is a mic which means I can plug my IEMs into my laptop for Teams calls. Not a deal breaker as I just talk into the laptop. For normal phone calls I just put the phone near my mouth… couldn't be f'ed unplugging.

are you talking about Zero 1 cable vs Zero 2 cable? because I heard the Zero 2 cable is softer while the Zero 1 cable (which was good) is a bit stiffer.

yeah it depends on what you are going for. obviously softer cable is more comfortable but stiffer cable as you said doesn't tangle and will be more resistant to kinking.

I thought Zero 1 cable had inline mic? or maybe I am confusing it with another budget IEM's included cable. I looked it up mic cable is optional. for some reason I thought it only came with mic cable.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: I was referring to the Zero 1. Not sure why I didn't get the mic, maybe it was out of stock or I couldn't get a good deal on it.

            • @mrhugo: maybe early units soon after release day didn't have the mic cable option.
