What Is Your Proudest OzBargain Moment?

What's your proudest OzBargain moment?

Is it a deal you posted?
Is it a comment you made?
What about an amazing deal you got before it went OOS?
What about a shared experience with other OzBargainers?

I'll start. Although my order got cancelled like most others. It was a proud moment to be part of the Dell price error of 22. Comment thread was on fire, and hearing everybody talk about their progress live was definitely an enjoyable time that doesn't come often. Was also amazing to see some people got it.

Extending my care and support for Pam this morning, but I was soon knocked down. Classic ozbargain.

        Done.

        • +4

How did you do that ???

@jv: Your password was easy to guess.

@MS Paint: It thought Goat2023 was pretty good…

Anyway, will be changing it in 12 days !!!

  • +4

Hmm 1 thing would be that at one point in time (when I had more time), my name was on 3 of the lists here - top commenters, top deal posters and top comp posters. Still 2nd highest commenter, but I doubt it'll last much longer

Mainly it's when someone appreciates a deal post, or wins from a comp post. Those are highlights

Putting people into the Penalty Box permanently.

    • oOoOo juicy, dare to say who?

      • Mix of spammers and people who harass me here.

          Sounds like a challenge šŸ˜

My dad talking about a deal he saw on Ozbargain… and it was one of my (few and far between) deal posts.

    • +10

Would that be your dad's proudest OzBargain moment? "My kid posted this!!"

      • He didn't even know it was me initially, he doesn't read the usernames too often.

    • Tiger Air?

      • Samsung Gear watch - he is a watch man

        • -1

Is he if he likes Samsung watches..?

Crashing the Shopback meetup while impersonating another OzBargainer when I wasn't invited and quite hated by the team. 10/10 would do it a 3rd time.

    • Cool story

      • -1

        Thanks love

    • were you impersonating JV?

  • +2

Getting my submitted deal trolled by JV

    • +2

      Which deal ??????????

      • +11

Ha, now you're going to pretend you don't troll all deals :)

    • +1

Isn't that every thread on the site?

When I was informed I won $100 for posting a deak of the month a few years ago! No idea people got paid here lol

Man, the biggest thrill I ever got, but never got to see through were the ~$360 return flights from Sydney to Baku a few years back. Had booked some other bits and pieces to make it a good holiday in Azerbaijan and Georgia, then COVID hit.

Thought it was a sunken cost, but ended up actually getting a refund!

    people power
got these guys banned cause took over 3 months to get 3d glasses.
at the end got a refund and a few days later it arrived lolz

    • There was so much behind the scenes drama after they got unbanned. Five figure offers to members, extortion/blackmail from certain people and more. OzBargain was so wild back then.

I'm still really good friends with the old Gearbest AU manager. I have all the photos and videos of the riot at their office when the parent company went under and everyone found out months of unpaid work won't be getting paid back.

      • that would be worth watching

        • The bosses used to hang up big banners around the office about working to death (loosely translated). It was such a hostile place to work. Considering their whole marketing strategy was to undercut all competition it was no surprise.

    • to get 3d glasses.

How often do you use them?

      • used a few times, got a bit sticky so had to throw them out

Having a mate send me an ozbargain deal that he saw in some tech publishersā€™ weekly newsletter.

He didnā€™t know it was my deal post

  • I saw a fantastic deal for something I had no need for and was able to resist the urge to buy it.

  • being a member

I had similar happen to me! But by accident as I didnā€™t know it was at the PO, and lodged a dispute and got a new order sent.

The next day the PO called me about a parcel they were about to return to sender. Now have multiple years supply of dishwashing tablets.

    • +6

So basically youā€™re proud of dishonest gain?

  • The day I signed up to OzBargain nearly 12 years agoā€¦.

ā€¦.then there was also the moment I finally took delivery of my robot vacuum from Roboguy

    • Roboguy! Omg there's a name I haven't heard from a while

In the same league as wipertech or whatever the dodgy wiper guy's store was

  • +10

I came 2nd or 3rd in a OzB meme contest years ago, and I have been insufferable with my kids ever since claiming i am a professional meme creator, as I have been paid for it.
You have to time it right, and not mention it for months at a time, until they show you a meme one day and you get to say ā€œThatā€™s trash, take it from a proā€ and everyone groans.

  • That Milo Deal was pretty awesome as was the Harvey Norman Vodafone Wireless deal.

  • Multiple free entries for Beta Bar in Melbourne CBD (before it closed down), since almost no-one entered.

I bet neil was sick of seeing my name during that time :P

    Ooooh, another one.

At the Ozbargain meetup, discovering how many phones people bought just for free Netflix credit. The things we did for cheap Netflix before migrating to Turkey and other exotic locations.

Ha, I still have one of them sitting in my office.

Bought 20 Makita Saw Blades worth $1,300 on a price error for about $100.

The store emailed everyone offering a $10 voucher or to wait possibly 12 months back order. It looks like I was one of the only ones who said Iā€™d wait 12 months, then the next week they shipped!

Iā€™ve been trying to sell them for the last 8 months at like 40% off and only sold one!

    Good times.

      @Broden - any tips?

  • +1

playing spot the ozbargainer at the gin show around 2019. the tix were on promotix. i went up to one in my tipsy state and asked them how they found out about the gin show and sure enough, heard about promotix through OZB.

  • Pointing out Australian consumer laws to dodgy companies and getting a win - Electrolux (new fridge and ext warranty), Aust Super (money out in a week), Jabra (replaced after 2 years) and recently Vline (paying for AirPods that went to waste disposal under their care). Finally the lifetime big w kettle that fails every 18 months with a 2 year warranty - Iā€™m onto my 3rd free replacement!

  • Another one. When people here called out & predicted zoom broadband was another cashgrab scam by the same guy behind epic broadband & infinity telco.

  • +1

Being around during the downfall of Deon Hong. That was an awesome week or two.

I've got heaps of deals this year. It's at the point where my wife asks me to search OzB for deals on wipes or nappies.

Having newly moved back, asking advice on how to fight the feculent international moving company, taking them to NCAT, and then wasting hours of their time to turn up just for them to immediately cave.

  • My very first post garnered more than 100 likes, haven't come close since.

  • The one where I won a major competition prize, only for it to not be fulfilled, and after a huge muck-around, got given giftcards instead. I really wanted that statue.

    Thread

    • Oh that's fked they didn't honour it fully

      • +1

Yeah. Basically they didn't acquire the prize they were offering before opening the competition.

Moral of the story, don't enter competitions by PlaystationDB or Tim Hanlon.

Was part of the collective that took down that cooker's post from yesterday. Proud ozbarginer moment

    • What post?

    • In one of his replies to me he admitted to trolling. Smart move.

  • Speaking with the shopback guys at an online retailers expo, and them acknowledging TA in real life.

    There is lore to OzBargain.

    • -1

EC and Trent were supposed to be the TA's of RewardBucks. Naturally everyone is like what's RewardBucks?….. Another failed cashback site.

        • -1

It was in development for like 2 years and when news of the Shopback launch became public suddenly ShopCred became live. Then the rep proceeded to upvote every single person who had a bad experience with Cashrewards because he was salty af after his own gig failed.

I feel OzBargain is less wild these days. Or at least it's all behind closed doors now.

    • +3

This site wouldn't be what it is without those who contribute, and some people take pride in the contributions they make

It's sad that you needed to bring your negativity to a post like this. I'd suggest you need a good loook inwards

    • +1

So why are you still here then?

      • -2

Bargains. Not validation or proud moments. I get those offline, from people that actually matter to me.

        • +2

Ever heard of a sense of community? Guess you're the type to take more than they give, going by your remarks and your lack of posting deals over the decade you've been here. We know you won't be at the meetups.

          • -5

@kerfuffle: Why would I want to meet a bunch of entitled, whiny strangers?

            • @digitalbath:

              entitled, whiny strangers

Nice description of yourself. Learn to give more than you take.

  • the moment @kerfuffle put @digitalbath into the Penalty Box, permanently

    • +2

Wait until digitalbath works out kerfuffle is a woman and sends her creepy PMs. There's a lot of creeps here.

      • -4

;-) Iā€™m a woman also. So can I be creepy to her now?

  • +3

Seeing the huge number of deals here and continue not spending money on them. I'm proud of my self-control curbing my urge to shop & spend, hence also a proud tightarse.

  • My first deal getting referenced by Lifehacker https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/16095

and my second getting deal of the month, with itā€™s popularity causing Grillā€™d to backflip
