Chinese version of the Poco F5

Make sure to select 12GB/256GB version and add "N CamShieldCaseGlass" to be able to use the code as just the phone is under the $250 USD to be able to use it. Has good support for Vodafone and ok for Telstra. Absoultely rubbish on optus. As the bootloader should be already unlocked, I would recommend to reflash it to Xiaomi.EU ROM as I'm not sure about the safety of the included ROM. Feel free to message me if you need help reflashing.

    donkey kong quality

    SOLD

  • Will this pass play integrity?

Cause not being able to tap and pay sucks balls especially at checkout.

It's been patched and broken about 15 times in the last few months.

    • +1

I don't think it will with the included ROM but if you use a ROM with patches already included or flash a Magisk module it should work.

    • +1

as in previous deals… just pay the premium and buy the Poco F5. Much less concern about compatibility, fewer bloatware, more bands. have had it for 6 months and not looked back at all

  • +3

This is the Poco F5 without a few bands… but my god this price is nuts

    • 5G: nl/n3/n5/n8/n28a/n38/n41/n77/n78 n28a (Tx: 703-733MHZ, Rx: 758-788MHZ). 4G: FDD-LTE : B1/B3/B5/B8/B19 TDD-LTE: B34/B38/B39/B40/B41/B42 LTE B412496-2690 194MHZ)
      3G: WCDMA: B1/B5/B6/B8/B19
      2G: GSM: B3/B5/B8

      What bands are missing?

      • +1

well B7 and the most important B28 for Telstra! The F5 has this

      • +2

Probably the most important one for Australia. B28.

        • -3

Telstra is shutting down 3G in 6 months. B28 doesn't really matter by then

          • +5

@Neology: That's their most utilised 4G frequency though. Rural areas especially. Nothing to do with 3G.

            • @Clear: Soooo is this phone useless once 3g shuts down?

              • @Froggy2022: No it still works as it has B1, B3, B5, B8 and B40. B7 and B28 missing will mean less coverage.

                • @Clear: Oh ok. All the telco sites state you need b28 for volte.

                • +1

@Clear: Crapshoot whether it supports volte or not when the telcos shut down 3G.

My Poco f3 just got shafted the other day, no receive or make phone calls on Vodafone.

                  • @adrianhughes1998: And you've definitely enabled volte?

                    • @sir_bazz: Yes. I've done all the phone menus and everything suggested in the articles by Hugh Jeffrey's. Short of flashing the modem with MBN files which don't exist for Poco f3 from what I've searched.

It is enabled on Vodafone's side because I tried another Xiaomi device and that worked with volte.

Unless you buy local, it's a crapshoot whether you get volte or not.

                      • @adrianhughes1998: Weird man.
I'm not familiar with your device, but I've found Vodafone very Xiaomi friendly when it comes to volte.

A friend was getting the SMS'es about the impending 3g shutdown but I was able to enable volte on her Redmi Note 9 Pro using the dialer code.

                        • @sir_bazz: Not weird, but it is exactly as what he said in his video. Your friend most likely had the settings for IMS registration and Voice over LTE:, both display as Available. My Poco F3 did not. The Redmi Note 9 is of similar age to my Mi 9T so they may have enabled it on them. Newer Xiaomi may not be so lucky.

It's a crapshoot to be honest, whether you get support or not. I would love to continue importing Xiaomi phones, cos that's what I've been doing since 2016, but when voLTE isn't guaranteed i can't afford to take the risk.

                          • @adrianhughes1998: Got a a direct link to this video?
I'd like to see what he's doing just out of curiosity.

I've managed to get volte working on my Redmi Note 9 Pro as well, and have working 4G+ on my older Mi Max 2 so volte should work on that one as well.
My current Poco F5 had volte working out of the box so newer Xiaomi devices seem to be more user friendly when it comes to volte, (which is a good thing).

These are all on Kogan, (Voda), though and I need to clarify that I've never managed to get volte working on Optus or Telstra.

                            • @sir_bazz: Just YouTube his channel and it will be the second or third latest video. He has an article link in the video description that describes everything to look for

4g+ has nothing to do with whether you can do volte or not. It's to do with the phone menus and whether it states that IMS is registered and voice over LTE is available.

                              • +1

@adrianhughes1998: Never heard of him before, but I watched one of his vids from a couple of weeks back and didn't see any solutions so I'll share my own.
All you need to do on your handset is disable the carrier check.

To check IMS (VoLTE) status open dialer and type star, hash,star,hash,4636,hash,star,hash,star
Enable VoLTE & VoWiFi on Xiaomi without root:
                                1. To disable the carrier check for VoLTE, open dialer and type star,hash,star,hash86583,hash,star,hash,star
                                2. To disable carrier check for VoWiFi, open dialer and type star,hash,star,hash,869434,hash,star,hash,star
                                3. Go to Settings> SIM & cellular. Select your SIM Card> Scroll to the bottom of the list and enable the toggle for VoLTE and/or VoWiFi.

                                • @sir_bazz: I did all that because that's what the article in the video description referenced. The toggles in the SIM settings showed up for me but they didn't work because obviously IMS and Volte available, wasn't working.

Yeah he's been around for a while, only heard of him when he fixed Michael Fisher's foldable that screen was smashed a few years back.

                                  • +2

@adrianhughes1998: Did you also call Vodafone to ensure volte was enabled at their end?

Never heard of Michael Fisher either. LoL

I'm more into the custom rom development scene in telegram, (and XDA), rather than the youtubers.

                                • +1

@sir_bazz: Thank you for this. I had VoLTE enabled but never knew about VoWiFi - have done it thanks to this message.

                            • @sir_bazz: I'll have a look for that vid.

You're right about the IMS registration, and that's what the dialer codes have always enabled in my experience.

Probably china stock being offloaded before the new ones hit hard….

  • +4

Good price if you're willing to get your hands dirty flashing ROMs and installing Play Integrity Fix.

    • I'd buy but it is uncertain times. So a no.

  • +5

The Turbos been kinda on special for a while, but yeah, even for me it's tempting. But new stuff is releasing soon or 're-releasing' under the poco brand.

You may prefer to wait since the 'poco x6' is rumoured to be the Redmi note 13 pro, and is going to be out in the next 20 days or so, and after that the poco f6 believed to be the Redmi note 13 pro plus. The specs don't always match the redmi's either, iirc, so it might be worth it to wait.

The Turbo. Ok, It's a fair bit faster, if you're into gaming and don't mind that question mark of how secure your phone is, and that you'll have to reinstall the OS. Will that speed bump matter for the average non-gaming user? Probably not.

Or you can wait a month and see how prices fair - especially for the global poco f5/12 note turbo - with the new stuff about to be bought up and old stock moved along. Especially since the 13 pro seems to have a speccy 200mp camera.

    • K70 also got releases about a month ago? another one for the mix.

      • And the k70e is rumoured to be the eventually rebranded Poco F6.

        • So when is f6 global coming out. Google search a million different dates.

        • +1

K70e? Really? I personally can't see that happening. That's running a MediaTek (nothing against MediaTek) but Poco has pretty much always been Snapdragon SOC.

        • Recent sources have been saying the K70e will be launched as the Poco X6 Pro

          • @CHUNITHM Luminous: Yeah looking at the camera bump design I would have thought it fit the Poco X or M series better

  • Personally I'd only ever purchase something like this from the Official Xiaomi Store to prevent the possibility of tampering (eg. Dodgy ROM) or being a sold something with faked specs (Internals differ to what is advertised).

    • Hong Kong Goldway is a trustworthy seller at least for the hardware. Not sure if the ROM is safe but I would only recommend it if the person buying it can reflash it or get someone else to.

    • +1

(eg. Dodgy ROM) or being a sold something with faked specs (Internals differ to what is advertised).

Dodgy ROM Xiaomi's existed in the old days when they had supply issues. I.e. a store orders 1000pcs, Xiaomi can only supply 500pcs and in order to fulfill preorders the reminder has to be bought from another reseller for $30 more where they've loaded their own dodgy ROM.

Different specs relates to people who can't read and buy an "Original Pad 6" with the only mention of anything resembling Xiaomi being Xioami in one of the pictures.

    16GB & 1TB for $479 is damn tempting.

    • +3

I believe it is $435.90 including GST after using AENY25

      • +1

If I didn't just get a 1TB microSD for my Galaxy A73, I would have to pull the trigger for this.

  • +4

Just got one of these delivered after smashing my pixel 7 pro.

Worst bit is waiting 7 days to unlock. Once that's done, flashing a rom is pretty easy. I went with PixelOS (bit old but stable) and flashed magisk via recovery, installed app, flashed playintegrityfix and setup zygisk. Added credit card and paid for my shopping today no problem.

    • I went with PixelOS

Does it also include unlimited upload of photos and videos at original quality?

      • +2

No idea, I have google workspace with 5tb so never bothered to look

Edit google photos settings says yes unlimited

      • +2

crDroid also has an official build for this phone and it should have unlimited upload support enabled by default. By the way it is listed on the crDroid website under Poco F5 and not Redmi Note 12 Turbo and this will most likely be the same for most other ROMs.

    • I'm thinking to install crDroid to my poco. could u use yours with NFC payment? (GPay/Wallet)

      • +1

Yes with play integrity fix. It failed on me the other day at supermarket checkout and there was an update in magisk waiting which fixed it again.

        • +1

If your bank app has a built in NFC pay feature try to use that over Gpay as they usually don’t seem to care as much.

  • Is there any Android update support after purchase?

  • +2

bummer it hasnt got band 28

  • +1

It seems this version doesn't include Corning Gorilla Glass (which POCO one has), which concerns me due to a past bad experience with the Max3. Its glass shattered within a week without any impact, which makes me hesitant.

This could be a good deal if you're confident in not accidentally breaking the screen glass.
