[Switch] Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair $4.50 (Was $45.00) @ Nintendo eShop

970

Yooka and Laylee return for a platform hybrid adventure.

They must run, jump and roll their way through a series of challenging 2D levels, face a puzzling Overworld and rally the Royal Beetallion to take down Capital B's Impossible Lair!

Each level offers beautiful, rich visuals with detail and depth. Yooka, Laylee and a whole host of colourful characters (good and bad) are realised in stunning 2.5D

The overworld isn’t just a hub, it provides a whole separate gaming experience! Explore and unlock more 2D levels by completing objectives and puzzles, rescue the Royal Beetalion bees and find collectibles.

Alternate Level States! Think you’ve got a level figured out? Try it in its alternate state! Flip switches in the overworld to create new landscapes.

Bee-at the Impossible Lair! Players are free to tackle Capital B’s Impossible Lair at any time; however, they may find it too much of a challenge without the help of the Royal Beetallion.

    Need some multiplayer games :)

I paid full price for this on release and loved it. At $4.50, it's a no-brainer!

    • Is it multiplayer?

      • +2

Nah. Single player 2D sidescrolling platformer. Inspired by (and made by the same team as) the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy.

  • This is an excellent game. It's rare that I bother to 100% a game after finishing all levels, but in this case I couldn't help but collect everything. As LaHug said, this is a no brainer for the price!

  • Just to clarify, is this a standalone sequel to the original Yooka-Laylee or an add-on / DLC?

    • +1

This is a standalone sequel though totally different to the first game. This game is 2D sidescrolling similar to DK Country. The first one is a 3D platformer similar to Banjo Kazooie.

      • Having not played either, which would you recommend?

  • Just finished playing this one on PC, great game, got 48bees, now I'm up to the Impossible Lair final level and struggling to get through 50%!

  • i'm looking for a multiplayer game. Should I get this or this? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/821036

    • Impossible Lair doesn't have multiplayer. And the first Yooka has a sort of "back seat" multiplayer where one person can help the main player. So if you're looking for a multiplayer focused game, these won't be it.

  • I was quite underwhelmed by this tbh, after loving donkey kong country returns etc…

The stage-changing gimmicks are… okay? A bit of water, a level slightly tilted, some goo or something. The two biggest issues I had were the unforgiving controls and the length of the levels, they drag on too long

But for $4.50 give it a go

  • Didn't even realise there was two yooka layli games

  • bought thanks!
