    If it's type-C, sigh~

    • +4

Genuine question, what’s the reasoning for negative thoughts on USB-C?

      • +28

Don't think you understood… OP meant "if only it's type c" this device features micro USB charging.

        • +2

Apparently micro USB no longer charges devices, even if the device is a great bargain.

      • +8

        I wish it's Type-C.

    • +1

I have the official dock and its awesome. No plugging cables.

      • +1

Same, but when you take your speaker out and about and everything else these days has a type-c connector it's a PITA.

          • @Boomstick: Tell me what you really think. Try not to hold back this time.

    • +1

I wonder if they make converters that you can plus into those devices permanently, similar to those magnetic charge cable heads that costs a dollar or two? I mean, it’s probably the reason these are on sale, to clear out obsolete models, if we can get converters for cheap, they are all bargains.

      • +1

You can get L or angled plugs. Or worst come to worst. Get those magnetic detachable charger cables.

        • Found straight ones on eBay and AliExpress, ~$2. The angled ones look really cheap, probably because they are harder to photoshop. I used to be a big fan of these magnetic ones, until they almost burnt my hand at one stage.

      • just fyi. usually the IP rating is because the port is behind a rubber door that seals. if you left something plugged in their permanently the door probably won't close all the way ruining the IP rating.

        • That’s a good point, most of devices I’m interested in won’t be used near water though.

          • @Alley Cat: "most of devices I’m interested in won’t be used near water though."

no worries then. just don't lend it to someone who might throw it into a pool. 😕

I swear I have seen some rubber port covers which are a bit hollow and have a tiny bit of room inside, maybe if theres enough room you could fit a slim magnetic plug. even a tiny amount of push back on the cover though risks water rushing in and breaking the seal. 🙁

            • @harshbdmmaster718: Wouldn’t risk it if there’d be water involved, and it wouldn’t be over 20% of the use cases unless it’s an underwater camera or something, can just unplug the converter when needed. Those air tight seals are very satisfying to open btw 😉

              • @Alley Cat: yeah the way I understand it these rubber covers on lower IP rating stuff like BT speakers basically depends on water surface tension to keep it out.
so they just design the size and shape according to that and as long as the cover is properly pushed in all the way the water can't manage to get in when it's slightly submerged.
                I wouldn't risk it either.

  • +6

I wish they would move with the times…..time to ditch microUSB and get USB-C

    • +1

I was going to buy but this has genuinely put me over the line of not buying…

    • +9

Model is 5 years old lol. Logitech must have made too much stock of these. Probably waiting to get some sort of return before releasing the newer models.

  • +9

@BuyLowLetsGo i don't have a bicycle. Any chance i can use this to annoy people on the bus or the train? what about on a plane?

    • +4

      No bicycle needed.

I was down at Circular Quay last week and a massive group of around 50 people getting their exercise went running past and several of them had portable speakers that were all synced and playing the same tunes with the volume cranked to the max! The guy at the front of the pack and the one at the rear had a massive suitcase sized speaker in a backpack.

      • At a certain point, public nuacenses become cool, these kids have it figured out haha

    • +1

Bus or train. You might get away with it. But on the plane. That shit aint going to fly. Pun intended.

As for the deal. Get officework to price beat. If they won't pricebeat Amazon. Use Harvey Norman for price beat.

  • Unfortunate to see micro-usb but still bought one cause it's a cracker of a deal

  • Thanks bought

  • Thanks op

  • +2

Great deal. Micro USB is just fine.

    • +2

I have a cable that is USB-C on both ends, and came with tiny micro-USB and tiny Lightning adapter which you can plug into either side. or mix and match for unique situations. maybe you want to charge micro-USB device with USB-C charger, or plug something micro-USB into your iphone??

looks like I am the only one with this cable, because for so many users the type or port is a deal breaker. either that or it's just a meme. "everything about the product is perfect, except micro-USB! NOT BUYING!"

  • Should I cancel the Sonos Roam I bought from Harvey Norman a month ago that still has no known delivery date and get this instead??

Use case is purely as a portable speaker, don't have any other other Sonos gear

    • Exactly what I did

      • Hmmm interesting. Am in the same boat too.

However, I think with the Sonos, you can have it connected to Wifi, use as a google home and add it into your speaker group.

I plan to use the Sonos primarily as part of my internal home set up. And then take it outside when gardening.

        • I don't really care about home setup, just want it purely as a single portable speaker.

Seems to review better that the Sonos in terms of sound quality and battery life, which are the 2 main things that interest me

          • @stickingly: Do it. I've had the older UE boom for 7 years, it's taken a beating and the battery life is unreal.

            • @ViperAMD: I've had the UE Boombox for around 10 years. Still better than any other bluetooth speaker under $500 for bass. Using it with PC setup daily. Logitechs UE range is solid! Amazingly sill going as strong as ever

    • +1

I love this speaker… No regrets at all. Super sturdy, great sound, waterproof, good battery life.

It's a bargain at this price. Trying to stop myself buying one, even though I have zero use for it.

  • Would this be a worthwhile upgrade on a UE Boom 2?

    • +1

Personally I don’t think so. Great price? Yes, but compared to boom 2, although a bit bassier, it has distortion at louder volumes.

    • My boom 2 have muffled sound. I'm not sure if this is much better as it looks exactly the same as 2.

  • To pair with 2 wonderboom 2's as rear speakers and have this as front for small areas/camping?

    • Don't think you can pair wonderbooms?

      • I thought there might be a chance.. 😪

  • Good for blasting music on the train? 🤣🤣

    • +2

Who doesn't wanna hear Kerser being blasted on the train?!

      • +1

Onefour and chillinit the usual suspects

  • +1

    Will these double up/pair with a Megaboom?🤔

    • Yes, I pair a Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 together so can confirm 👍.

      • Wow that's super cool. I always thought the answer was a hard no! Thanks for the help.

        • +1

No probs, just link them in the Boom app and away you go 👍.

  • +1

These are great. Really good deal, don't know why people moaning about micro usb it is really not that big of a deal

    • I don't even have any micro USB charging cables anymore. Huge PITA

      • +7

Lucky there's one in the box!

      • Buy this and I’ll talk to Bezos about chucking in a free cable ;)

    • +3

"people moaning about micro usb it is really not that big of a deal"

my guess is it's a meme at this point. people just rush to comment it on every BT speaker post they even think might have micro-USB.

because the other logic doesn't make sense. "I love everything about this product! but micro-USB? nah not interested."

  • Lmao doesn't have an aux input

    • Bluetooth is fine

    • +2

just fyi if you really need Aux input on any BT speaker/headphones, you can buy a little battery powered BT dongle which supports both aux input and aux output (two sockets).
I got mine for under $20 from JB HiFi. (price matched TGG, use $10 off Perks coupon)

I have the Creative Pebble Plus speaker which is 3.5mm input only. so I can plug the BT dongle in and it becomes a bluetooth speaker. I can also hook up my DVD player to the BT dongle and play the movie audio to my BT headphones.

      • Would love to know which one you bought please. I've just tried the ol' google but only finding aux-to-BT.

        • +1

I posted a deal for the exact one I got here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/764627

later on I remembered TGG is owned by JB so they will literally price match anything no questions asked. so went into JB and got it.

very easy to use because it switches from going into transmitter mode or receiver mode depending on the socket you plug into (plug aux in before turning it on). it's tiny and lightweight so has a tiny battery inside, I recommend you to keep it fully charged regularly to prevent the battery from dying. pretty sure it works while charging too though, so you can use it that way if you like.

also keep in mind I got this one specifically because it uses AAC bluetooth codec. most of my headphones support it so it was the best option. AAC codec is also used by Apple headphones so if you want to use with airpods etc it's good for that too. (or in your case I guess streaming music from iphone)

  • How does the ue boom 3 compare to the Bose soundlink mini 2 in terms of sound quality?

    • Bose has great clarity and is meant for small rooms like a bedroom, kitchen etc. UE has a fraction more bass. Just a bit cleaner sound on the Bose. Not much difference really though. Bose is also double the price now

      • Thanks man… I have the sound link mini 2 and consider it good for what it is, but a far cry from mains powered speakers like the Sonos 1. UE boom 3 seems sonically comparable to soundlink mini 2.

        • soundcore seems to be where the best value is at the moment.

Motion Boom and Motion Boom Plus will be a step up from Bose soundlink mini 2. just try to grab them on sale because the prices drop quite a bit.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Thanks I hadn’t heard of the soundcores… probs a bit larger than what I was hoping for, but good to know of the options out there!

            • @Worf: keep in mind I have seen them in real life and they are not "huge" like they might look in the pictures.

the Motion boom is 34.6 x 14.8 x 20 cm; 1.97 Kilograms. the 20cm is because height includes the handle, so think of a 15cm x 15cm square thats how thick it is. not that substantial.

also 35cm is roughly the width of a 60% keyboard. it's really not much especially if you see it outdoors the speaker looks rather small.

the Motion boom plus is exactly the same thickness in size just 3cm longer.

        • All Bose soundlinks drop the volume at high volume to not distort the sound. UE has a higher power output in all comparable variations. The higher end you go the bigger the sound difference there is. Low to mid volume Bose is a cleaner sound. Higher volumes UE is much better. Wouldnt recommend getting anything less than a Megaboom if you already have the soundlink 2 though.

          • @Whisper Quiet: Thanks heaps… I don’t need loud. The soundlink mini 2 can sound good in some environments (e.g., bathroom, or having it reverb of some of our furniture), but there’s a limit to its capability.

            • @Worf: speaker size should really be equated to listening distance and wall distance. also there is a difference between sounding loud, and sounding good loud. most BT speaker these days with DSP and limiters inside can technically "sound loud" by aggressively cutting lower frequencies from the output.

smaller speakers such as Soundlink mini 2 really need to be used indoors, and really require/benefit in the bass region from being closer to a wall. I have a Soundlink mini 2 sized speaker and only use it on my bed and this is after squeezing more bass out of it with EQ so it sounds great but only because it stays on the bed.
speakers one step up even such as the Soundcore Motion boom plus etc still do not do so well outdoors, if outdoors a enclosed area and placed near a wall is required to get good sound. it can get loud outdoors yes but the DSP/limiter will cut the bass after a certain volume level and you will end up with a tiring tinny sound because of lack of bass when loud.
even with Soundcore Motion boom plus I recommend using it indoors and maybe on the balcony/in the garden close to a wall. if you blast it it won't sound great and you will run down the battery quickly and the speaker won't last long in the long term.

I have a larger sized bluetooth speaker slightly larger than Motion boom plus and similar in size to JBL Boombox 3 (which seems to be a common "standard" choice). outdoors these can just about achieve impactful bass and sound good at loud volumes too, but you are going to be using it almost to it's maximum potential for the entire time if outdoors. even a speaker this size is only good for a smaller group of people listening nearby when it's outdoors. I use mine mostly indoors for this reason so I can EQ correct the sound to my liking and still get plenty loud without stressing the speaker and draining the battery quickly.

              • @harshbdmmaster718: How did you change the eq settings on your soundlink mini 2?

I’ve tried both the Bose connect and Bose music apps, however, they are unable to detect my soundlink mini 2 (and I don’t think it’s a supported device).

                Thanks

                • @Worf: "How did you change the eq settings on your soundlink mini 2?"

sorry I think you misunderstood. I have a Soundlink Mini 2 sized speaker, as in same size but not Soundlink Mini 2.

but if you just want to EQ there are plenty of free apps that can do it. if you are streaming subscription common apps like Spotify have basic EQ in the app. for mp3 files on iOS I use Onkyo HF player app, I can see it on Android store too. it has full parametric EQ it's very advanced. just a tip though keep everything below 0dB (the centre line) that way you aren't stressing the speaker by boosting anything past it's capability. (by keeping things below the centre line for example. if you want to boost the bass, instead of pushing bass "up" you want to push everything above bass "down" - it has the same effect)

you will experience lowered max volume level with typical EQing e.g. boosting bass etc. you can technically "boost" stuff above 0dB but I don't recommend it, you can easily introduce distortion and it is stressing the limits of the internal components such as amplifier and battery. it's a easy way to kill your speaker quickly.

                  • @harshbdmmaster718: Awesome thanks heaps, and thanks for explanation re keeping frequencies below 0dB

  • Good price - I think I paid ~$140 a couple of years ago for a birthday present for my son.
He loves it and uses it frequently (and often annoyingly)

  • anker soundcore pro motion+ is my pick

    • I think you mean Soundcore Motion+ because it's around similar price (well a bit less) on sale. and not Motion Boom Plus because that's like double the price right now.

  • +1

Same price at OW btw, if you don’t want to wait for the shipping. Combine with either the gc or the two-hour delivery makes it a better deal.

    • +1

Looks like they lowered it. Was higher before. I guess they saw harvey norman price.

  • +1

Had in OW cart to purchase at $98 went to pay came up at $148 could Day light savings have anything to do with it ?? I’m in QLD.

    • +2

You can get OW to pricebeat.

      • Exactly. Better if its more expensive at OW. 5% Discount for price beat, basically $5 off. Can also pay with flybuys if you got enough.

  • Will OW still price beat if Amazon is showing as back order?

    • Depends on your luck with the salesman. I reckon it’s unlikely but might slip through a kinder/more apathetic cashier

  • Rats, I missed out :(

  • I forgot about my reminder 😞

  • Can these be added to a Google Home Speaker Group?

    • Never mind. Answers on Amazon suggest not.

  • oos

  • Got it priced matched at Officeworks!

  • +2

Price matched at GoodGuys. Added another $2 item make it $100 to get those store credits to use - knockout and gold extra store credits $30 & $20 discounts bring it down to $48 for Boom 3.

Tested this with Sonos Roam, Bose Flex and Loewe Hear.1, Boom 3 beats all of them. So at $98 is unbeatable.

    • "Tested this with Sonos Roam, Bose Flex and Loewe Hear.1, Boom 3 beats all of them. So at $98 is unbeatable."

Boom should be compared head to head with JBL Flip. usually consumers are choosing between those two. one is 360 and one isn't though.
