just as long as your manual states 5w30 as compatible its fine.
more specifically one of the following should be compatible too:

That's a quite incorrect statement. Not all 5w-30 oils are equal. You wouldn't run this in many cars that need 3w-30 unless they were well out of warranty.
I wouldn't put it in our 2017 Golf or 2016 Pajero Sport diesel. I will be buying some for our 2004 Accord Euro.
This is stop start version
Should the stop-start version better than the normal one?
It is “tailored” for cars with engine start/stop technology. I don’t think it adds any value if your car does not have it.
@foxes28: where did you get that info from ?
The stop-start means it protects the engine by reducing wear in areas such as cities where the car stops and starts many times. It does not mean it's for cars with stop-start tech.
@shxhshzhz: that's what i thought. all cars should start and stop, lol
@shxhshzhz: According to their marketing, vehicles with stop/start tech are exactly the target market.
"Full Synthetic Castrol MAGNATEC STOP-START 5W-30 contains Intelligent Molecules that:
*Cling to engine parts when the oil drains down
*Form a self-healing layer to protect at each of the critical stages of stop-start driving and beyond
*Are proven to reduce wear in stop-start operation.
@brad1-8tsi: No. Vehicles that are stopping and starting many times are the target. Not related at all to that tech. Watch the marketing video.
Today even a normal driver can stop and start as many as 18,000 times a year. All that idling in traffic causes microscopic wear in your engine. In the latest industry test, Castrol MAGNATEC STOP-START 5W-30 gives significantly less wear in stop-start operation*.
@shxhshzhz: If the engine is going in stop-start traffic then why does the oil need to "Cling to engine parts when the oil drains down". It's irrelevant as the oil pump is working.
Sounds like the marketing department failed to talk to the engineers.
Whatever. I bought 2 jugs for the Hondoo
@brad1-8tsi: marketing suggests it is for keeping a layer of lubrication for when the car begins moving and the oil has not fully circulated through the engine. Maybe they mean it's for cars that also are turned on and off frequently.
@shxhshzhz: Could be.
The VW we just bought has stop/start. I've bought a cable so that the vehicle "remembers" the last setting we used.
The saving in fuel is offset by the reduced battery life and potential early starter motor replacement.
@brad1-8tsi: What is it remembering? Is there any way to turn it off if it has no benefit?
@shxhshzhz: Currently we de-activate SS with the button next to the gearstick and on the next manual start the SS is activated again. The cable "remembers" our last manual selection.
There are other ways to de-activate SS such as using a VCDS cable or OBD11 to set the minimum battery parameter to 14.5V but when I sold the Skoda I didn't think we'd be buying another VAG product and I sold my VCDS cable, strut spreader and oil filter wrench.
@brad1-8tsi: interesting.
that wouldnt matter if you deactivate the stop start system?
$25 with the $10 credit
That's a different store?
Ahhhhh FFS. My bad. Cheers
No worries. Just give me a good deal on a monitor bro.
I got SCA to price match. Bought 2x jugs. $5 credit for taking in oil a few weeks back pus the $10 loyalty credit.
$54 for 10L
edit: + $1.38 cashrewards
This is the way.
Didn't the $5 oil recycling credit deal end ages ago?
I'm retired and one day blends into another so it might have been ages ago but I had the $5 credit in my account still. It was expiring soon so that stacked with the $10 loyalty credit was pretty good.
/searches. It was November.
I keep my v6 commodore running, is this for me?
Sure. I would unless it has a squillion miles and tends to burn oil.
Which V6 - Buick, Ecotec, Alloytec?
ecotec, my back tyres are different to the front, doing burnouts at the lights is expensive!
I'd be running 10or15W/30 or even 40 going into summer.
How many kms?
@MS Paint: 100,000 ive replaced so many parts on it already, compared to a mates japanese car his looks like new!
Rear taillight fell off the glass last week, i siliconed it back on and should be right for a while.
My drip tray in the garage keeps filling up constantly, so i go through oil like mad
@Headless: 100k kms is ultra low but like most motors the ecotec's don't like a lot of short trips. I'd go 15w40 in your case.
Can you see the source of the leak? I'm guessing a rear main seal if it's leaking like a sieve.
@MS Paint: im scrapping the car shortly, im tired of constant repairs, shouldve bought a Japanese car!
@Headless: PM me when you decide to scrap it. I may be very very interested.
Grabbed 2 for my incoming Mark X Zio with 2GR-FE engine. Thanks mate!
Nice car
would this 'cling to engine' element create sludge for 2gr?
Not too sure, but if that happens to 2gr, nothing would stop that does the same thing to any other engine I believe. Sludge more likely happens with skipping maintenance.
it says it doesn't fit my vehicle, but the same weight of a different brand works? wtf? just ignore and purchase any 5w-30, and it should be good?
