The Whisky Abbey Collection 2023 features an exquisite ensemble of three special single cask bottlings, each exclusively bottled to commemorate the latest installment of the Casa de Vinos-hosted Whisky Abbey Festival.
Renowned for their exceptional quality, the festival's collaborative bottlings have consistently emerged as highly coveted treasures among enthusiasts. This year's collection boasts three distinct bottles, promising a unique and memorable addition to your special bottles on the shelf. The three bottles part of this years pack are:
Chichibu Distillery Ichiro's Malt & Grain Single Blended Whisky Cask 7257, 60% abv 169 Bottles only
Caol Ila Distillery 15 Year Old 2007, Single Cask for Sansibar x Whisky Abbey, 53.4% abv 150 Bottles only
Trinidad Rum 11 Year Old 2011, Single Barrel for TWA x Whisky Abbey, 53.7% abv 700ml 120 Bottles only
These are all single casks with small outturns. I had to check my spreadsheet to get an idea of the value of each individual bottle.
The Chichibu, even though it's a NAS blend, would be ~$800+. I own a lot of their older bottlings and the prices—especially single casks—have skyrocketed. Chichibu is a great distillery; every bottle I've tried has been excellent.
The Caol Ila 15yo Sansibar in today's market would be ~$300-400.
The Trinidad Rum 11yo 2011 I'm not entirely sure, because the only Trinidad rums I own are Caroni which closed in the early 2000s, and they cost a lot. But if I compare the specs to similar Jamaican or Barbados single cask rums I own, this would be ~$300.
So getting these three IB single cask bottles for under $1k is a bargain, and the IBs are great in my experience.
