Cheers. Needed one for a small project with a few $10 300w solar panels from fb marketplace and a $30 deep cycle battery

You’re welcome EC, and good luck with your project!

Trying to make my mancave off grid lol

If it works, going to try and run my aircons offgrid (DIY solar setup) as i have them directly plugged into outlets outside-> 4 panels, controller and battery (for night time)

        • Sounds like you’ll need a decent inverter if you want to power any 240v appliances

@easternculture: Let me know how you go with the aircon. I’m still renting and would consider trying to run a portable aircon off a couple of 2nd hand panels (which are available for almost nothing on FB marketplace) on the balcony.

@toasty: You will need a lot more than a couple of second hand panels. In my experience an air conditioner will draw about 70A at 12 volts while the compressor is running and you will need a soft start version or need a hell of an inverter to handle the start up current.

              • @toasty: Sounds like the best DIY hack of 2023.

    • The big money will be in battery storage, panels and solar chargers like this are cheap.

Do your research on batteries and how to charge/mauintane them, my 120Ah/100Ah lithium needs

replacing soon (down to 1/2 capacity after 2 1/4 years of full time careful responsible use.

      • There are multiple threads on the net re DIY cheap battery setups , might have to look into that

  • Thanks OP. Grabbed one for a portable battery box I'm making.

I’ll using mine to replace a cheap PWM controller I use with a 100w panel and Anko battery box I picked up for $40 from Kmart. Still only using a 110ah AGM battery inside to run our camping fridge and led lights, but I’ll upgrade to lithium once the AGM gives up.

Should be perfect for that set up. You'll get more changing amps out of the MPPT.

  • Stupidly cheap Ty grabbed one for my Ute so the dcdc isn’t working overtime and grabbed 2 for the skeet field

I know, I had my camels notification set at any price below $85 so seeing them this cheap made me jump into action. Glad you have a use for them!
