"This is a new Xbox device … has had its battery life tested". Battery? Yeh … nuh!

    • +1

Says "as new" in their title…
      So not new?

  • +17

For those after an aqua shift controller these are new but without box.

    So it's a fake… right?

Like who in their right mind would throw away the original boxes for an actual limited edition controller and repackage them in brown boxes?

    • +1

Could be genuine but unused stock.

But sounds dodgy to say the least.

      • +10

Same seller as the removed handheld game console with 500 games deal from 3 days ago.

I think it's pretty safe to say that these Xbox controllers were sourced the same way. (AliExpress/Alibaba, Flipkart, Indiamart, UBUY, etc.)

    • +1

Dodgy as hell. Either refurbished or returns? Anyway Kogan is dodgy as and i wouldn't trust them again.

  • +5

looks like a regular xbox controller in yoga pants.

  • Anyone aware of any good deal on ps5 controller. Couldn't find it under 100 anywhere.

    • +1

Best bet would be to wait for the christmas sales.

    • +3

set up a search alert on here. they routinely go on sale for $60-70 at JB / gamesmen ebay etc.

If its "new",why would it need to be tested at all?

    No thanks.

    • +1

why would it need to be tested at all?

      Good question.

    • Part of their quality checking process, they want to show that even their retailers do the quality checks before selling their product. :)
      😆

    • +1

Maybe to work out why there's a battery inside

  • … thought it was brand new. Ah, no thanks!

  • Any good for Batocera?

  • +2

Update: ok my friend got one of these and said she was able to add to Xbox profile as a valid device using serial # so appears legit

    • Thanks for that!

    • +3

OK, but can't they take an existing controller and then copy the serial # and use it on all of them? People wouldn't be any wiser.

    • Nice suspect there was an issue with the batch and they had to test batteries

      • +4

Isn't this AA removable batteries though?

  • Some thing suss is going on with this. If you scroll down further on the page it says that this device will be presented in a brown box. Genuine Xbox Wireless controllers don't come presented in a brown box, it's in retail packaging. I'm having a suspicion that this is a knockoff Xbox controller.

As i said if this is brand new and a genuine controller it will come in retail packaging. Not an ordinary brown box. Most likely a non genuine and knockoff. So avoid at all costs.

    • +1

Maybe, but if they went to the hassle of doing a knock off xbox controller, youd think they go the hassle and do the packaging as well being alot easier.

Possiblty its some sort of OEM stock, if thats a thing for Xbox.

The other part that is off putting in the title it says "As New' which is a second hand description ?

      • From my experience replacement controllers come in a brown box .. possibly OEM replacement stock that they've opened and tested?

      • Costs money to make a fancy retail box packaging. And you need the right equipment to do it. More likely they bought these suspected knockoffs from some dodgy supplier and sourced a bunch of cheap boxes to put it in.

        • +1

This is a bit of a fetch, replicas will usually come in a box to avoid any fake remarks. But since they are so open about it being in a brown box this is most likely a OEM or some sort of replacement provided by Xbox/Microsoft themselves.

    • May be this retailer is more environment friendly and prefers to use brown box. :) 🙂

  • +10

They were selling these for $49.99 last week but listed as "refurbished"… Seems suspicious

  • +2

Not a chance this is an unused authentic controller. They dont come in brown boxes with the 'batteries tested'

    • Refer to my above comment

      • +2

that doesnt prove its new. whatever the situation is, theres something dishonest about this listing and i mean no offence to you, but i gotta neg it. it doesnt seem right at all

        • -1

I don't think it's tight to neg on a feeling… while i agree somthing most likey ain't right. A feeling is not a valid reason for a neg.

          • +3

@wisc: not so much a feeling, theres a lot of reasons to think this is dodgy. i dont neg lightly (hardly ever to be honest)

            • +1

@perfectlydark: I’d agree and gut feelings are sometimes a good reason to neg just might not be considered sound.

    • Confirmed legit below

    • +1

      Arrived today 100% legit

  • I don't understand how any one can think that this is genuine if this is their every day price. It smells suspicious and coming in a brown box. Price it low enough but not too low to suck gullible people in thinking it's actually genuine.

So right yeah they're going to sell at $40 off the RRP on an everyday price and arriving in a plain brown box and yet some still think it's genuine. Ok then.

    • All fair points. If anyone gets one let us know how you go.

    • They are genuine lol
      Get off the internet boomer

  • +2

    Kogan…take a leap of faith.

  • +1

    'AS NEW‘ LOL

  • I saw these in the Black Friday sales. Ass new? Sure!

  • Seconds perhaps, maybe some cosmetic or operational fault that didn’t quite pass quality control? Or could be perfect, who knows.

    • Does Microsoft even offer factory seconds for sale?. First i've heard of it. Never heard of an Xbox factory seconds. I don't think they do. They are protective of the brand and quality.

      • Yeah you would think that would be the case. Another possibility is box damaged stock.

    • +11

What console bundle?. This is a special edition controller which hasn't shipped with any console bundle any where world wide. So it can't be excess stock from a console bundle. You can rule that out. Also i highly doubt that Microsoft makes excess controllers to supply to some third party company to ship in a brown box. That doesn't happen any where. You can only get non retail issued controllers in console bundles or perhaps as a warranty replacement. But i don't think a business would have a crap load of warranty replacement controllers for sale. How would they get that many warranty replacements all in one go?. But as i said this certain controller has never been in a console bundle. So it's you who is mistaken.

      • These were most likely bought in bulk from some liquidation company, only explanation I can think of.

        • +3

Then if that's the case it would all come in retail packaging. It only comes as retail single controller, no console bundle. They won't open it up to test it. It would be sold as is, in the sealed retail package. The only reason i can think of if they open it all to test battery life is if they know that it's non genuine and that that some may come with a bad battery.

You see no company in its right mind opens up the retail packaging, takes the controller out and replaces it with a brown cardboard box. What's the point in that?. It would devalue its worth. It's worth more unopened sealed in the retail package. This is a special edition controller which only comes in retail packaging. No current console bundle, nothing but retail package. So if this special edition controller aint coming in the retail package then it's suspect as.

          • @hollykryten: Unless the boxes were damaged, water/smoke/physical damage etc.

            • @Gravy: Personally i wouldn't want to buy controllers from a batch of water or smoke damaged stock.

    • These controllers look to have not been released in Australia .. apart from that stupid gold one… :) re-selling used stuff is re-selling used stuff.

  • Wonder how much battery life the Duracells had left on average

  • -1

Not sure if it matters, but the listing doesn't claim to be a genuine Xbox controller. So if it's not, it's hard to claim they're lying about it.

  • Welp, didn't see the massive thread of people calling it out as a fake until after my stupid bargan brain went and bought the damn thing.

Atleast you can cancel the Kogan first trial immediately without consequence!

Will report back on the quality when it arrives

Looks legit, shows as in warranty until Dec 2024

  • +1

Took 3 days to arrive, was packaged as described in a brown box then double wrapped in thick bubble wrap.

If it's a fake, then they're the Rolex of fake's, Whole thing feels indistinguisable from my legitimate XBOXSEX controller.

Haven't actually tried to use it yet, but i've high hopes.

    Batteries not included 🙃

  • +2

recieved mine, looks exactly like a genuine one… if its fake its a bloody good fake.

arrived in brown box and bubble wrap.

    good enough for me

  • +2

Ok I think I worked it out. These are overstock for warranty repair replacements. Since these are now out of warranty for those purchased at original release, these are being cleared out.

If you return a standard controller under warranty it arrives in exact same brown box bubble wrap.

Unless they fell off back of a truck…

    • Why would a seller have so many warranty return Xbox Wireless controllers for sale?.

      • +1

I don’t know but guessing Microsoft clearing out surplus. It’s 100% exact same packaging as a warranty replacement controller direct from Microsoft.

  • URL has the word refurbished in it. And product page says selling as new. Gee.

But how would a seller have so many warranty return refurbished controllers?. Did a pallet full of Xbox Wireless controllers get wiped out by a large forklift or some thing and all got replaced under a bulk warranty. Otherwise how would they have so many.
