Anyone know of deals for the smaller ~2kw units in QLD? :)

    • Also look for those in Gold Coast region.

  • +56

I also got one of these. I looked for the cheapest price online (for me it was a place in Melbourne and i am in Sydney) so i sent it to bunnings to request price beat and got it approved. $2000 at bunnings ($2399 rrp) i got for $1650- 10% so $1485. Used discount bunnings gift cards saved another $90 and 5x points on onepass then this $200 cashback ended up to be around $1150!!

      That's a true OzBargainer!

    • Which model did you get?

    • I had no idea Bunnings even sold Mitsubishi (HI) air conditioners

    • Nice one

    • Did you get Bunnings to do the installation as well? if so, how was their price for installation and their quality of work?

      • Don't use Bunnings for installation. I speak from experience. Other posters in this thread (below) may be able to recommend you an installer.

      • Bunnings was $850 got a local company for $550. Bunnings just assign you job to a sub contractor so you cant say if they are good or bad just depends eho you are assigned

      • I used https://empireair.com.au/ i asked for a weekend job from one of their workers so it could be done quicker (paid cash). If you want weekday might be a few weeks.

    • Where did you get discounted Bunnings GC? Hardly see them discounted, actually never.

      • +1

Was a black Friday deal from gift card exchange (u had to get their card and swap to bunnings but 6% off)

    • Can you pls tell me the place online you checked $1650 price? Thanks

Hello is this the link you used to price beat? Thanks https://www.handymaninmelbourne.com.au/product/srk71zra-w-se…

      • Tried to price match with this link but they said it wasn't the same model number.

        • +1

I tried and the lady said the website doesn’t show it’s in stock, then they emailed the store and the store told them they don’t stock them and have to order in, then bunnings declined it, they are very hard on it

          • +1

@ozvictor: I went to another Bunnings and same thing happened, think OP got really lucky. Maybe I'll just get it directly from handyman

    • How long bunning took to reply on price beat? Its been 2 days they have not replied to my email. Thanks.

      • They don’t reply, you need to call them and give them your email and they will then action on your email. But the lady was unhelpful she refused to price beat it for me because the website dose not show item in stock

        • Thanks for sharing mate!

    • Thanks for this amazing Idea mate!! I got lucky and Bunnings agreed to price beat! I got my AC today and I have submitted the claim today! fingers crossed.

  • Is it Mitsubishi Heavy Industries or Mitsubishi Electric that is the better brand? I keep hearing conflicting messages.

    • Heavy Industries

    • -1

      MHI

    • +4

      Electric is better these days.

    • +1

Mitsubishi Electric have a much larger inventory of stock and spare parts (in Australia) according to my sparky.

    • MHI are generally more affordable and more efficient for the normal models. There is an aus gov website that lists efficiency, average running costs etc i used extensive before buying. Not massive differences though. Much n muchness between the brands really. Arguably the Mitsu Electric especially higher models are better quality but they cost quite a bit more. I have 3 MHI in my house, 1 Avanti and 2 Avanti Plus. My extended family have a few Mitsu Electrics which i think look better as well, but yeah cost more.

For what its worth i did this cashback about this time last year and it took about 12-14 weeks to receive but eventually did.

  • MHI is the better brand.

    • I can imagine 4 Sumo wrestler in a Magna.

  • Hmm, I am in the market for a couple of ACs as part of a Reno. Do I wait for January?
    This redemption ends 31 December.

    • The prices are already gone up, when I first considered buying back in June it was 1800$ from Bunnings before 200$ MHI cashback, because of the so called hot summer the suppliers/installers increased the prices.

Same unit was 1500$ back in 2018

    • +5

As a fridgy, never buy an aircon in summer.

      • wait for winter to quote?

      • Depends where you get it. Usually decent prices year round if savvy, if not, yeah plenty of people get rorted.

      • Build is feb-April unfortunately.

      • Why not?

  • Any difference between the DXK24ZRA-W and SRK71ZRA-W?

    • Exactly the same just different model number

      • Bit strange they make a drastic change to the model number but it's the same unit. Have the SRK71 so a bit curious.

    • D.. Is the 2023 model but no difference apparently just the date code is 2023

  • What would be a ball park for "replacement" install? I.e. electrical and pipe/ducting already done for existing aircon, just need to replace inside and outside units.

    • ~$600-$700 (Sydney).

    • +1

      $1000+. I’ve been quoted $3.1k for 2 installations!

I already have the units so gonna have to just take the hit as I don’t have the space for them to just sit around

      • Too exy. Happy to share my sparky details if interested (sydney area).

        • Isn’t it just! Really appreciate it but I’m in the inner suburbs of Melbourne.. that being said it would almost be worth flying them down

          • +1

@Caerdyddblue: I had some wildly expensive quotes in sydney too until I found one who is reasonable. Just keep looking :)

        • +1

Hey mate, would appreciate if you could message me his details if he happens to service western Sydney.

        • Any chance message me the sparky's details please?

        • NVM just saw your post down under cheers

      • Depends on the distance between the inside unit and outside. Usually back to back (3m of pipe) $500-700 cash or $650-850 not cash. Extra pipe is around $50-80 a metre.

      • Madness, is it more complex than installing solar panels? It's out of proportion.

    • Good luck finding a decent quote in Sydney from a sparky.

If everything is there, and you have intermediate electrical knowledge and skills, you could do it yourself.

Remove old components and install new ones. Should be straight forward.

To reseal any gaps, i like expanding foam. Wait till its fully expanded, cut and sand flush to wall and apply a few layers of sealant to fully waterproof it.
Then attach the outer unit to existing mount. Same with inner unit

Just be aware you will be voiding warranty and home and contents insurance if not installed by a licenced electrician

      • Ring around and you may find someone who is willing to let you mount the units and they just come out and make the final electrical and gas connections. Then they vac it out, open the refrigerant cocks and commission the unit. Pumping down the old unit is as easy as running it in cooling mode with the high pressure cock shutoff.

      • I do a lot of stupidly risky diy but would strongly advise against this, for exactly for the insurance issue you mentioned.

    • I have received several messages. Sharing his contact here for everyone:
      Jason Gray - Safari Air - 0411 127 762 (Sydney Area)
I had an MHI and ME supplied and installed by him. Great bloke, decent quotes and super easy to deal with.

  • Why are these so good? Difference motor or something? How would this be compared to say Fujishu?

    • Japanese made instead of chinese made

      • +1

Minor correction on the packaging it says designed in Japan, made in Thailand.

      • -1

And Apple are made in China. But I get you

        • Designed obsolescence doesn't help there ;)

      • Fujitsu are made in both China & Thailand. Both brands are Japanese in their roots but made offshore.

    • +9

I would say Fujishu is on par with Banasonic, Suny and simsung

Reach out to Matt mate, great bloke.
Prob do your job for $600 each.

    • Caerdyddblue

I read this as Cardi B and now anticipating some WAP

      • Hahaha. Caerdydd (Kai-er-deev) is the name of my home city in Wales in Welsh. Thankfully the people are much better than Cardi B but positively there is plenty of WAP there haha

    • Thank you for their recommendation, they’re the other side of the city to me but I’ll get in touch. Did Matt install your system or a friend?

  • +1

Did 2 changeovers for me a month ago. A 2.5 KW and a 5Kw on a second story townhouse.

  • I (profanity) hate our Daikin - worst app I’ve ever used. Will go Mitsubishi next time.

    • App?

      • Phone app to control the unit

    • I have just recently had a Daikin installed works great. Only used the app once though when it was first set up now i just tell Alexa to turn it on and off.
When i was looking for a new air con it was between MHI and Daikin.

Decided on the Daikin for the WIFI functionality and the indoor unit dimensions are a little bit smaller.

  • Any installer recommends in Brisbane?

    • Please PM me

  • Anyone want to share installer recommendations for melb?

    • Same here. Bought it but still looking for a recommendation for a reasonable price.

  • Anyone save the list of air conditioners? The website has been down all evening.

  • Do these guys do ducted systems and are they also part of the cashback?

  • I’ve got a 10year old 7Kw ducted Mitsubishi Mr Slim.
It’s a monster chewing up electricity. The problem we are facing is it only cools at 19C which becomes very cold. 20C and above only pushes the air.

We tried two different Aircon servicing guys and they just charge us but can’t fix anything nor tell us the root cause.

    Anyone with any suggestions?

    • Your manual will have troubleshooting instructions. You should be able to use your remote to diagnose the fault using beep codes. I'm not sure of your model but they probably all the same procedure, which starts page 18 of this manual
      https://www.manualslib.com/manual/2254340/Mitsubishi-Electri…

      • Thank you mate. We are not getting any error codes. System works fine except it doesn’t understand anything above 19C to spit out cold air. There could be thermostat issue but why can’t these mechanics just troubleshoot that.

10 years is a while but we have had aircon 15-20 years running very well with 10 hours minimum runs a day.

        • Some problems can be difficult to diagnose (my brother's system took 4 attempts - ended up being a spot of solder in the pipes). He is busy every day so may not be able to get to it for quite a while, if at all. He won't do mates rates but he does the job properly and doesn't take shortcuts. You have Sydney as a location, but what suburb?

EDIT: My brother lives in Tasmania, so not much choice and his tradie is not the one I would suggest.

          • @RogerLoger: Thanks a lot mate. I’m in Sydney near Liverpool. Does that help or could you recommend me some one decent? The unit works well. During winter it heats up very well and winter it cools but needs something that it understands the temperature.

I came to Mitsubishi forum seeking help as everything I did with the two mechanics fails. One guy just came washed the filter and said it needs gas and did load up gas. That’s about it.

            • @justanick: Our tradie came via word of mouth. He gets plenty of work in the Northern suburbs and Central Coast. Liverpool is a bit out of his way.

The unit he replaced here was a ducted system. It had two thermostats. The toggle switch selected on or the other, not both. To get it working anything near right, we had to use the downstairs thermostat and leave the upstairs bedroom door open. It cost a fortune to run, so it ended up we only switched it on two hours in the morning in winter or in the afternoon on incredibly hot days. Time will tell what the new one costs.

              • @RogerLoger: Do you know where the thermostat are located for the ducted system?

                • @justanick: My old ones were mounted in rooms. The same principle as this: https://cdn-tp3.mozu.com/24645-37138/cms/37138/files/71e3dac…

The new one leaves me guessing. The wall mounted controller tells three temperatures: R/C; Room; and, Outside. R/C would be the wall controller. Outside is obviously taken somewhere in the outdoor unit (so not that). My guess is Room is measure some time after air goes into the return air vent.

Maybe a search for a part for your system would help you: https://www.mitsubishidirectparts.com/thermostats
Note: first website found and no .au site apparent. Aussie sold models may be different.

Edit: and be aware motors will have cutout thermostats to ensure they don't overheat.

    • Better change it. 10yrs is about worth it is.
