Couldnt sell them, so trying giving away? :)

    • +1

Usually a carnivore - I've bought these a few times @$3. And in previous free promotions. Very tasty.

      • Do you purchase them when not $3 or free is the real question?

        • +4

As with other fast food places - only go when there's a good offer. Almost never have paid full price.
As there are many other free or discounted food options… Why would I?

These were $3 every time I've visited.
Mainly go there for a free Burrito 🌯 when offered as member.

The Mexicali Mince Taco is an absolute flavour bomb mixing Mad Mex’s special soy-based protein with tomato, cumin, onion, paprika, chillies, and garlic.

    • +26

Tough guys being too scared to eat soy because they think it will turn them into a woman (not you personally - just because you highlighted this) is probably my favourite vegan trope!

      • +2

Soy based protein is often flagged as a 'group 4 ultra processed food', it's not as healthy as could be assumed.

        • +1

          Ok?

        • +10

Not sure why you've been negged, fair comment I think. There is a common false equivalency between "vegan" and healthy". Easy to fall into the trap of assuming this kind of stuff is good for you because that's how they sell it. The reality is we're probably best to minimise ultra-processed food, vegan or not, which is most fast food and a lot of stuff from the "vegan" section of the supermarket (and the rest of the supermarket for that matter). Stick mainly to unprocessed and home-cooked veggies, plants, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and save things like this for an occasional treat if you like it.
Lots of different kinds of vegans out there, some more focussed on animal rights, some on personal health, some on environmental impact, some a combination. For people who care about animal rights it's great that there are more options for plant-based fast food and convenience food, but we shouldn't let ourselves be hoodwinked into thinking that it's all intrinsically healthy just because it's vegan.

          • -6

            @jonnyspizza:

Lots of different kinds of vegans out there, some more focussed on animal rights, some on personal health, some on environmental impact, some a combination.

That’s actually a common misconception. There’s one overarching, primary motivation — vegans are made of meat, and thus refuse to cross that red line over to cannibalism

          • +2

@jonnyspizza: I didn't neg it, and see it isn't at the moment, but the main reason I can think of is that it's incredibly boring having someone "reminding" the almost-zero number of people who think a fast food vegan taco counts as health food that it isn't. We know…

I also can't speak to their motivations, but it's interesting that they feel the need to highlight the processed nature of the protein yet don't even mention the processed tortilla or the processed salsa. Perhaps it was purely innocent, but it lines up pretty well with the incessant whining you get on these posts (ironically often from people banging on about how vegans will never shut up etc.).

even the traditional food habbits in many cultures call soya a 'dirt', not good for human body.

          • +1

@backupper1: Soya has been eaten for literally thousands of years in the East, indeed by Buddhist monks who routinely lived long into old age. Away with your drivel and nonsense.

      • +1

        Yeah, I know that one.

I posted it so we know what kind of vegan material is used here. Can be soy of various sorts, pea, seitan, mushrooms, jackfruit etc.

  • +1

    Pronounced tar-cohs or tack-ohs?

  • +1

How big are they? A meal's worth, or an entre?

    • +10

Nah vegetarians can eat these as well as meat eaters too.

      • -6

Then I guess Vegans can also eat vegetarian food and meat?

        • +7

They can but would chose not to.
Vegetarians and meat eaters dont oppose any of those ingredients so its fine for them.

          • -5

            @Spendmore:

They can but would chose not to.

Same reason I choose not to eat Vegan food…

            • +2

@jv: Aren't we lucky to have the choice, millions dont.

            • +2

@jv: Wow so you don't eat any fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds etc.?

              • @ozilicious: Not Vegan ones, only the vegetarian ones.

                • @jv: @j please let us know where you buy fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds that contain ingredients produced by animals, so we can avoid them.

Do you only drink coffee made with Kopi Luwak beans?

    • The relevant figure would be 100% minus the carnivores. I would guess that would leave at least 98% of people who could eat this if only mad mex didn't taste like dog shit.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

  • +1

    i now identify as vegan

    • -8

you'll change your mind after trying one of these….

  • +1

How many tacos do you get out of 1 vegan?

    • +1

Depends how nicely you ask i suppse?

    • +10

I didn’t struggle my way to the top of food chain

LOL, like if you did anything to be there.

      • -1

I’m getting negged tho . Not sure why haha

    • to be on top of the food chain, you need to be an apex predator for one… didn’t realise cows, sheep and chicken were now carnivores

      • -1

Nobody can take joke. We are living in a sad times.

  • -3

Vegan tacos. Womaigod…wer is the world heading too…

  • -1

Tacos filled with freshly picked grass. Think I'll pass, but thanks anyway.

    • +17

That joke sounds very 20-30 years ago.

      Hello 2000s!

      • Be careful, he is probably from le Reddit army.

        • What does that mean? :D

        • +2

LOL your accusation couldn't be further from the truth. Vegans are more likely to be on Reddit than anyone who is anti-vegan/farm trespasser.

  • +1

I just had one and turned into a tree

    • +4

      You are rooted then!

      • +1

        Everyone wins.

  • +1

Activated now. Added to my Rewards, says Expires on 14 Dec
    Thank you OP!

  • oh man that's wonderful of them, to give out gruel to the hippies!

  • Nothing against vegan but tried vegan chicken and beef once each, taste beyond terrible

    • +4

I find the Impossible Foods burgers/mince pretty good. Often goes on markdown at my local Woolworths for less than $2, makes for cheap burgers/rissoles/etc.

    • +8

While I wouldn't necessarily suggest you keep trying different brands given you seem happy to eat the real thing, saying you've tried "vegan chicken" is like saying you've tried "burgers". There is so much variation that you can't possibly judge the entire sector after eating it once, which includes products that taste virtually identical.

Though admittedly the number of products that do taste virtually identical in Australia is terrible compared to places like the UK.

    • +4

I tried Japanese food once (tablespoon of wasabi) and hated it, worst cuisine ever.

  • +1

(brainworns ozbargainer voice) wow the latte sipping lefty woke mob are sure to love this. no thanks

    • So, what other deals didn't you like today?

      Here, we're giving you attention.

  • Anyone know where to enter the code?

    • Promotion doesn't start til tomorrow anyway.

    • +1

In the app, click on your account bottom right, then click 'Redeem a Reward'

      • Thanks but then how do you order in the app?

  • +10

Comments on these Plant-Based Meat related deals never fail to disappoint.

And……. I have run out of negs. Damn.

    • +1

Best washed down with a glass of oat milk

  • +2

    I once had a vegan's taco.

  • Anyone else getting No internet connection?
Update: just needed to fully delete and reinstall app

  • Can anyone confirm if there is any left? Or has it been OZBARGAINED???

    • I've just claimed 1 min ago and it worked.
Got added to my rewards, valid for a week

  • +2

Not sure why, but I received 2: tacos instead of 1. Maybe she thought I needed to eat more cause I'm so skinny 😜

    • I’m going with the theory that it was one extra-long taco cut in half

  • Has anyone actually ordered? Its asking me for payment even after the reward is active in my account

    • Paging @Rather be Travelling, our resident Mad-Mex-freebie specialist

  • +2

They gave me one of each, soft and hard shell =)

  • +1

The picture in the app is more realistic and should be the $3 taco. Not really worth if you travel just for it alone. Only a small bite but the taste is okay. Haven't tried this one (vegan)

    • Yeah closest Mad Mex to me is Melbourne Central and that's about 15 min walk – definitely not worth my time!

  • Will try it out later

  • Thanks OP! Appetizer sorted.

  • +1

Closest MadMex is Garden City Qld not really worth the trip for one taco.. I swear there used to be one in the city

    • +1

I remember reading something about Mad Mex being appointed liquidators last year and restructuring their business. Bunch of stores closed and I think they rebranded in NZ or pulled out of there completely.
