  • Are these easy to installed on existing door lock which has deadbolt?

    • +1

Yes, I actually just used my existing deadbolt and strike plate, which fit fine.

  • Only 3 reviews.. Can anyone shed some light on the quality of this?

    • +1

Quality could be good, but the review of Izza screams FAKE.

This one is very similar and has good reviews. Generally the items coming from china under different names are identical. They look like same locks too.

        • +1

Actually I was checking the one you linked to and considering sending the link to you too :)

That one is slightly more expensive, but supports tuya.

          • @aec: Looks exactly same product. For $65 its not bad. Bcz a generic lock at bunnings would cost similar anyway.

    • +2

I reckon even the fake intruders on the old crimsafe ads would be able to get past one of these.

      • +1

But the Intruder will have to make a difficult decision for which method to use. Apparently there are 4 different methods to open this lock 😅(and of course a 5th one.. A gentle kick, lol)

I literally just bought and installed one of these a week ago. It was this one here: https://amzn.asia/d/4nqx56N
Installation was actually very easy, the hardest part was removing my existing handle that had completely stripped screws, and screw holes in the door weren't straight; which is all to be blamed on the moron who installed it when our house was built.

The handle was easy to install, and I was even able to just use my existing deadbolt and strikeplate. Just had to change to the shaft that came with the handle, as it's hollow for the wires to go through. One tip is not to overtighten the screws, as it seemed to squeeze the turning mechanism against the door, and made the handles harder to turn. This was easily fixed by backing the screws out again slightly (still flush and tight, just not overtight now). Setup is pretty easy once I installed the associated app. Lets you setup mutliple fingerprints and door codes, and you can even generate a temporary code that lasts 5 minutes for guests to use (however, the handle is bluetooth, so you need to be in range and so makes this seem a little pointless if you're that close by).

I got this mainly to keep my 2 year old out of my home office, and works great for that. Definitely not for an external door. The lock has a button on the interior handle that makes the handle stay unlocked until you lock it again, which is handy when the 2 year old is at childcare, and I'm going in and out while WFH.

Overall a good product, although I've heard the 4 AAA batteries can drain in a matter of weeks. I would suggest using that interior button to disable the locking function while you don't really need it.

Happy to answer any other questions on the product. At this price I think it's a no brainer if you just want to keep little ones or room mates etc. out of your room.

    • Why not for external door?

      • +1

Doesn't seem sturdy or secure enough to trust externally. Fine for internal. I guess up to individual user though.

      • +1

        No waterproof rating?

        • Yeah this thing definitely isn't waterproof, another good reason not to use outside.

    • +1

      Great insight Thanks

    • Is the key really as basic as the photos suggest? LPL would have a great time if so…

    • What is the difference between this and the KGLF above?

      • +1

The only difference I see is there is no mention of support for "Tuya" smart device ecosystem on the one in this deal, whereas the one I purchased does mention support for it. I assume it either does use Tuya, and just doesn't mention it, or they have their own proprietary app.

    • +1

Thanks happykamper, could you explain more re the interior handle lock button?
Does that means its not self locking or can you flick a switch or setting to make it self locking?

Live in an apartment so thought this would be handy for our front door and the teenage kids. You can't access our floor without code or security pass, so at worse we have 2 other units that are on our floor. Key access also means i can still give a spare to Building Manager in event of emergency etc.

But with the kids I'd want it to be self locking all the time….

      Cheers

      • +2

No problem. The handle is self-locking, and does so about 3 seconds after you unlock it. So you have just enough time to turn the handle and open the door before it locks itself again. The interior handle button disables the self locking function, so it remains unlocked, until you use the button again to re-enable, or lock it from the outside with the thumbprint button.

I did see mentioned on a YouTube video that you can change from normally locked to normally unlocked etc. via entering certain codes on the handle, but haven't delved that far yet, and didn't see these more advanced settings in the mobile app. One thing I found handy is you can mute or lower the volume of the lock/unlock beeps via the mobile app, as they'd get annoying after a while, and you can hear the lock unlocking/locking anyway.

Comes with 2 keys, so could give one to building manager. They're laser cut style, so might be a bit more difficult finding a locksmith that can make copies.

        • I noticed that you thought this unit would not be suitable for the main front outside door into the house, any reason why? I thought of replacing the front door lock with one of these.

          • +2

@chrisie: I've used one of these at least one I got from ebay that looks like this on my front door. Seems fine I guess not as secure as a deadlock but hey there is a window right next to the front door that would be a much easier way into the house than getting through the lock I would have thought.

            • @desmadre: Yes would have to agree with you as I too have a window right next to the front door. So you recon they are not real flimsy and you would happily install one to your front door.

              • +1

@chrisie: I've installed it on my front door. It's really going to be personal preference most people like deadlocks these days a lot more solid I guess. For me the door locks. I've got a screen door I can use if I really needed but don't feel the need. If someone really wants in window would still be easier I would have thought. I like that my kids can get in by scanning their fingers. We are happy. For me if I don't like it anymore I'll just put the deadlock on. But so far so good.

                • @desmadre: Thanks for your input, makes me a bit more confident so will order 1 now.
                  Cheers
                  Thanks

                  • +1

@chrisie: All good it's such a personal choice. I debated it when I ordered one too. It's certainly not for everyone but the convince and price is great. Security not as good but hey it locks.

          • +1

@chrisie: It's electronic, but not waterproof. It also seems like it could be ripped off with enough force. Really depends how prone your area is to break ins, and whether your front door is exposed to the elements.

            • @happykamper: " It's electronic, but not waterproof" Yes that could be a problem, will have to think about it.
I can see where your coming from, maybe I'll pass.
Its not something I really need but the finger print entre would be great.

              • +1

@chrisie: It does have a manual key that should still work even if the electronics get fried, so you could still take the gamble for $65 I guess, it you're really keen.

  • Wanted a smart lock for my Garage Back Door, for $66 I will give it a go and it if works well, time to replace some of the other external doors of the house.

  • Looks like the discount code for 40% is invalid.

    • Only $4 difference to what is now the current price.

  • +1

Mine arrived this week and I installed it on my garage side door. Very easy to install and setup and pretty sturdy as well, very happy with it. Finger print works well, took a bit to work out the pin entry and how to get that triggered.

Thinking of buying another two for my house doors, for under $70, its a pretty good lock with the smart features.

I just wish it had a WiFi connection and wasn't Bluetooth only. You need to setup codes etc directly, you cannot have someone rock up and go "I'll unlock the door for you", you need to have a temp passcode already setup in case.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience, I'm glad it turned out well for you.
The only reason I opted out of getting one was because it was not waterproof.

      • I don't think it'll be a huge problem unless the door isn't protected by an eve or similar. My garage has an eve and yes it does get wet when there is a strong easterly, but otherwise, it is fine, it doesn't get drenched.

Even still, it's $70. I wouldn't pay RRP for this unit and if it lasts a few years, it is still pretty good in my view. Its like the Ozito tools…. cheap enough to use and then if it lasts a few years, just buy a new one.

        • Up here in Brisbane particular this time of the year with storm season even with a bit of eve protection it can get quite wet and wild so I really need a waterproof unit, was very tempted but opted out.
