Soooo, you're not booking the cabin, you're paying for the ability to pay to book a cabin?

    • +2

The cabins retail for over $3000, some even $6000 if you use the key to book 2 people

The access key also gives you a cabin by the looks:

The Velocity Points required for this reward are for one Access Key which is redeemable for one Sea Terrace cabin (one or two people)

      • Yeah, this is the bit that's confusing me, and the FAQ doesn't make it much clearer to me. If it's truly "1 access key = 1 cabin" then yep, great stuff, it's a deal.

        • That's exactly what it is. You're just buying a "key" because you don't have to choose a specific cruise right now.

I would rather the free meal I booked for next week.

Don't forget the passport for Tassie.

    20,000 point increase in 2 months is a bit steep - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/801185

    • I think that was a launch fare from memory.

  • not familiar with cruises. Once redeemed - is this per person? or 2 people can use the cabin? can't seem to find much info on the landing page.

    • +1

You can book for up to 2 people with the access key

  • Tempting, but there aren't enough Sydney cruises and I've already got the one I booked when the access key was 79,999.

has anyone been on these virgin cruises?

    • Not many in Australia I would imagine as their ship has just arrived in Australia (currently in Airlie Beach from Singapore and Greece) and its first cruise beginning in Australia is from 11th December.
Unless someone has taken one from the USA, Europe etc.
      Plenty of reviews on YouTube.
The big selling point is it's adults only (that gets a big tick from me) and the 20+ high-quality restaurants you can dine at (no buffets, thankfully).

      • Is all food and drink onboard free? If not, how's the pricing? Never been on a cruise.

        • +2

Food is included at all restaurants, unless you want something above and beyond that's extra special.
You need to book the restaurants via the app around month before you travel or you can try walk ins if they have no shows.
With alcohole, you get a bar tab credit called "sailors loot" included, which all depends on the length of the cruise, this varies from $125, $300 or $600 in credit (all priced in USD)
Drinks, such as a glass of wine are mostly between $6 to $9 USD.
Buy $300 of credit upfront, before your cruise and get a bonus $50 credit (for every $300).
Sailors Loot can also be used for shops, such as the barber, beauty salon or tattoo parlour.
