  • Listing says 28-84mm lens, but then when you click on link (or look on pic) it says 14-42mm

In 35mm terms it is a 28-84mm lens as micro 4/3rds has a 2x crop factor.

  • I'm tossing up between this one and the NEX-C3 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81663
    any suggestions?

    • +1

If size is a concern the pem1 is borderline the choice but the nex has much better shot on shot performance and whilst video quality is not as high the flip LCD quality Lenses quality and ISO perf. Of the nex would be the way to go. Also value wise the big w price is marginally the lowest but the nex c3 price is way lower than the eBay import price of $450….go the Sony. Only qualm is the warranty is handled by 1-day….this is local stock.

      • Also, be ready to be ripped off by sony's selection of lens… their lens mount is proprietary.

        • Is Olympus lens mount non-proprietary? Can you put a Nikon/Canon lens onto it without an adapter?

        • +2

Olympus Lenses are interchangeable with other micro4/3rd factor lenses - ie those made by Panasonic for their m43 cameras. You can buy an adapter to use the Nikon/Canon lenses, but you will have to focus manually.

Yes the Sony mount is proprietary, but so are Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Samsung, etc etc… so that's an invalid argument. If you are referring to the lack of 3rd party lenses, this WAS an argument, but you can now buy 3rd party lenses for the NEX system, same way you can for the M43 system.

I have E-PM1 - great little camera once you get used to the quirks (like playback of images, and some of the menu's are a bit dicky). The handling can be a little weird, without a grip on the front, and the placement of the video button right where my thumb rests means that I have ended up with countless videos that I had not intended to take.

If you can pick up a NEX for similar price, and you don't mind the extra bulk of the NEX cameras system (body + lens) then it's a better option - the better quality images.

As an aside, both of these cameras are being superseded at the moment. The E-PM2 will have a touch screen, and a better button layout. Touch screen may solve a lot of the menu issues. The new NEX I believe includes an inbuilt flash, and flippy screen and an even better sensor than the one that is in the current camera (yes, Sony DOES indeed make the best APS-C sensor in this part of the market!)

        • How pathetic that people downvote someone who asks a very genuine question. Get a life trolls…

  • Not as good as the $286 (after $50 cashback), that I paid for my EPM-1, but still a good price for an excellent camera.

    • wow, when/where did you get that?

        • Did you ever get the cash back? The cash back seem never come to me.

        • Yep, got the cash back. Direct deposit into my bank account.
