Critique My New Computer Build

Please advise if this is decent.
AM5 with a 7600 is about $300ish dearer. Unsure if worth it.
Thanks in advance.

Don't get a cheap $75 PSU. Spend at least $120-$150.

  • Critique My New Computer Build

    You forgot to buy fans.

    • 4 fans included in the case

      • -2

        They might be crap though…

        I thought you wanted Critique???

The motherboard you listed has integrated graphics, yet you chose to add a graphics card.

        • They might be crap. They might not.
          I do want critique.
It is cheaper than the 5600X.

          • @follow:

They might be crap. They might not.

            Same with the integrated graphics.

        • +1

The HDMI/DP ports on the motherboard don't work unless you have a CPU that supports integrated graphics, which the 5600 does not. AMD calls the ones that support it APUs, whereas on Intel they all support it by default unless there is a "F" suffix to indicate it lacks an iGPU.

  • Everything looks good except the cheapo psu, i usually budget 10% of the build for it, as it protects all your other peripherals.

as far as gaming goes you aren't really going to tell a difference between a 5600 and 7600, so don't waste the extra money.

    • The PSU's I was considering are in the C tier list of this: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/

C is low end category but it should be fine, right?
As long as it's not in D.

      • You could got low tier (category C in your list) but that's if you absolutely cannot spend a single dollar more - considering it's a small difference between $75 and $120, there are good reasons to get a better quality PSU;
        * Quality of the components - this translates into longevity, safety of you and your PC components, better efficiency/heat
        * Power conversion efficiency - likely that most PSUs in that range for the wattage you need (what is it, btw?)will be bronze class, which is like 80% efficiency?
        * Wattage - you also need to plan a bit of headroom for upgrades , but likely extra SSDs and peripherals.

        • yes bronze tier. Deepcool PK650D / Gigabyte P650B / MSI Mag A650BN.
do you think B tier is ok or only A?

  • Hey mate. You'll want to get an AM5 board, you said in your post that you were unsure if it was worth it but I can guarantee it is. Usually an EOL upgrade for AMD platforms is to go to the newest 'X3D' chip, and if you do this the build will serve you quite well throughout time with a simple cpu/gpu upgrade at a later date. I'd also spend a little bit more on the CPU cooler and look at something from Be Quiet! like the Dark Rock 4 again future proofing yourself. If you want to spend a little bit more also, upgrade to a Samsung 970 EVO SSD as well. Cheers.

    • thanks. might just do that. if i switch to an a620 I can cut the cost to about $200. 🤔

  • If your goal is to build a system that will run well for not much money, you've done really well in my opinion. However, as others have pointed out, cutting off an upgrade to a future AM5 to save a bit now could cost you quite a bit down the road. If I was building a new system right now, I'd get on AM5 even at the cost of a GPU downgrade. I'd personally look at the used GPU market here to save money. You haven't said what games you play, but if VRAM isn't a big deal to you I've seen used 3080s going as low as $500.

    • good idea thanks

  • C-tier PSUs are not good PSUs. They likely won't catch fire or anything like D-tier, but they're certainly not good. I wouldn't go below B-grade for a gaming computer.

Furthermore, if you're looking at longevity, going AM5 will be worthwhile, as you'll likely have much better upgrade options moving forward.
Spending that $300 now saves you buying a whole new motherboard if you want to upgrade CPU/RAM in future.

IMO Save another couple hundred and go AM5 with a better PSU, but otherwise seems decent.

    • thanks, might just do that
