Recommend buying preowned from Cashies for 80-90. They’re not an old product so most of them will be in brand new condition.
So expensive.
I just use a DualSense phone clip from AliExpress. $6.

Might be an option for some. However the cost difference isn't as big as it seems once you add the cost of the PS5 controller though.
And with the Backbone, you don't have to worry about charging it. I'd consider that a major advantage.
Backbone gen 2 is available on their site for $125. New one can handle most cases.

Is the Big w one 1st gen? Is there much difference between 1st & 2nd gen?
You can tell that the Big W one is 1st Gen, because the flap that goes over the phone is flat.
2nd Gen is designed so it's easier to use without having to take your phone out of its case.
if you need to use it with a case, then yes there is a difference because gen 1 isn't compatible with cases. but internally, I do not think there is anything different about it.
The backbone is really great, very high quality controller. The buttons are fantastic. I didn't buy new as I think it's too expensive.
