Stop trying to make fetch happen

    • Genuinely curious about what's driving this and the reasonable number of +/- vote reactions.

Don't think I've ever shared a deal before, and wasn't aware it had a bad rep. I've mainly used these as good enough set-top-boxes that I can easily troubleshoot for family remotely, and personal fta/iView/Netflix/Prime/local dLNA box.

Can I use this box watch free on air TV like 7 news, 9 news etc?

    • Yep - you sure can

Not the best deal when the Mighty has been as cheap as $79 refurbished

  • Can you install android apps on this ?

    • No they have their own version of most streaming apps

Have a Fetch (the bigger one). One thing that pisses me off royally is the previews in Netflix (and others I believe) include sound. The right time for unsolicited sound is never. Enough of a PITA to recommend not to buy.

        • Is there any autoplay preference setting in Netflix? I haven't had that problem with Fetch, but with Fire TV recently there was autoplay on the home screen that can be switched off

          • @Paul B: You got me excited but seems like a no to me. Can't find any settings at all in the Netflix app, nor anything like it in the general settings.

@fantombloo: I don't have current Netflix sub to check this but it should be like
              https://help.netflix.com/en/node/2102
Check the profile using web browser if it is not in the app

              • @Paul B: Wow! You are a legend! Thank you so much! I would never have thought this would be a global setting from the web browser.

                • @fantombloo: Cool. I don't think Fetch modifies much in any apps. They just need it to work with their remote control and menus etc.

On eBay for $169 or $149 (diff seller) with $10 voucher SAVNOV23 and discounted gift cards.

  • On Telstra BF for $120.

    • Thanks for sharing. I can't tell if it's locked to Telstra (usually the case but doesn't seem to be stated in the CIS) or not. If not, it's definitely the better deal!

        It's locked to Telstra!!

  • Can I record TV shows to usb storage using fetch mini or do I have to buy the big box to record like a pvr ?

    • Based on a quick read of the manual, no :(

However it does keep a short buffer of what you're watching now, and it has all the FTA network catchup apps (iView, SBS OD, etc) which isn't the same but sometimes is enough.

I've only ever used on a network with a big box also present.

      From the product website:

"Recording NOT available with the Mini."

  • Is it safe to assume this works like a retail one (Like bought from jb/good guys/etc…) and would link up to a retail Mighty?

And you get all the functionality (minus recording being the mini) but just not the fetch channels?

I’m currently with Optus for NBN on a grandfathered plan, with a mini & mighty… looking to switch to another NBN provider but means I lose the fetch boxes. So have been waiting to pick up some retail boxes on the cheap, so this would be a good start.

    Eh deals finished anyway…
