    Great unit

Their eBay feedback is very concerning. Selling refurbished, open box and damaged items as brand new. Sometimes a different model in the box.

  • I bought this ~1500 few months ago. This is crazeee

This TV is absolutely mad. I will stand by this model, highly recommend. It's not as good as OLED or maybe Sony's or whatever, but for $930 that value is insane.

It's a mini LED (not sure of exact LED zone count) so contrast ratios and black levels go hard. I would say comparable to OLED in a way.

The only downside for me is gaming - you can't really game with the local dimming on high, due to input lag, so you have to turn it off and the picture gets a bit washed out as a result. Kind of like a regular LCD TV. But, for HDR content, for movies and TV content on streaming platforms - absolutely ace. And considering most OLEDs are at least 1500 - 2000, you save a bit of money just going with this.

Also the processer/internals are a bit cheaper so the OS can be quite unresponsive/laggy at times, but you can mitigate that with external devices too.

I'm sure some people will give counter points and say it's not actually that good, but idk, I'm blown away by the value prop of it. Think I bought mine on special for 1k and for that much it does all I want and more.

    • Sorry think I have the C835 as well, so the earlier model. I think the C845 has even more local dimming zones.

    • Thanks for the review. So tempting to upgrade our bedroom tv from an old Sony LCD to this.

    • Shit I've recommended these to people for gaming assuming the local dimming still works, fml

      • See my other reply - local dimming does still work with gaming, it's just about getting the settings right. Overall it's still a great tv for gaming as well.

    • RE: the gaming part. Really? I've heard good things about this for ps5 gaming.

      • Soz, lemme clarify the gaming bit. It's still great for gaming and local dimming does still work - on low or high - but I'm quite sensitive to input lag/input response times and it does increase those ever so slightly so I tend to turn local dimming off IF I'm playing a game where that matters. EG. God of War, where I wanna hit combos quickly, or online gaming like CoD.

Also VRR works on PS5 which is awesome but it does turn off the local dimming setting to achieve VRR. I think standard non-VRR 60fps or even 120fps does still work with local dimming. Don't quote me on this though - there is more info out there on local dimming, ALLM modes and VRR - it can be quite complicated. Most of the time now I just leave TV settings as is and fire up the PS5 without worrying too much and it runs great in most/all cases.

But yeah overall it's also reaaaally good for gaming. Comparable to an OLED again. But I think because OLED has virtually 0ms response times, something like an LG C2 is still king - but yeah you have to pay the premium for those.

The C845 has no issues with input lag and local dimming, the above commenter was talking about the previous model

        • Ah that makes more sense. Yeah I'm gonna buy one of these from JB online with 15% giftcards on Wednesday for gaming. Thanks

  • Nice. I’m hanging out for sub $2500 on the 85”. Noob question as I’ve only ever owned LG Smart TVs, but as a Google TV, I’m assuming this line is not Airplay compatible out of the box?

    • +2

It does include AirPlay out of the box. Great TV

  • i know its complete different ballpark but i picked up a new kogan qled 50 inch for $360 this morning on ebay. i really wanted this unit for my sim rig but couldn't justify 2.5x the price

  • Any chance of getting this price matched somewhere in sydney?

    • Same boat here but in Perth. Will pull the trigger at this price if anyone is successful with a match please let us know. TIA

      • +1

no luck with JB live chat. best they offered was $1256

  • Purchased for $1110 in release week. Had the TV for nearly 6 months, highly recommend for the price.

Err I got the TCL 65C845 for $1369 delivered with additional $100 Cashback from TCL delivered from Appliances Online, what's so special about need to lug a 65" massive box which doesn't even fit in a 7 seater Kluger TV from a factory outlet place

    • +1

you can buy it from appliances online right now for $1,955

    • +1

It'll fit pretty well on the back of my Ranger; not every deal is suited to everyone. Congrats on getting a good price, but unless you can see it same price or cheaper right now from a major with delivery, what's the issue?

I called as they're open today and hoped to pickup, but they don't have these in stock until tomorrow.

  • Had bad experience with a brand new TCL TV last year. Basically a DOA. The worst part was how TCL handled it - didn't want to know about it. Put me off TCL for the next 10+ years.

    • Sounds like you went to TCL instead of going to the retailer for DOA product lol

      • +1

Not sure why this is being negged, you should 100% go back to the retailer for DOA

    • Which store did you buy it from?

      • Myer. I called Myer who referred me to TCL. I called TCL, referred me back to Myer. This went nowhere for a week.

Finally Myer sent a courier to pick up the TV and organised a refund.

I'm not bitter about it, really.

  • Any chance of more price drops in the upcoming week?

  • I'm looking for a 55inch to upgrade our current 3.5ish year old elcheapo 40inch TCL. Biggest problem with current model is the blacks are atrocious, it's almost impossible to see the TV with any light in the room and the colour seems to occasionally dim on its own. The UI is becoming buggy and frustrating to use. Though I'm thinking of setting up a media PC to connect to the TV

Hesitant to buy another TCL for these reasons but people seem to like this one?

    • From what I've read, the C8XX series doesn't suffer from any media issues, either from low RAM or buggy software. They're basically the flagship product for TCL.

The newer TCL TVs with Mini LED are worlds apart from their older stuff. If you're buying the P series though you will need an external media player, that's the generally accepted consensus here.

  • The Powerland 65" goes to $1231.40 delivered if people are using the discounted GCs linked in the description here. Not enough units for an actual post here on ozb though.

  • Getting cheaper every day
