  • Really good price with local warranty.

Extremely hard to justify when the AKG K371 and Audeze Maxwell exist…

Should be going for sub-$500 really.

    • I don't know why you got negged :-\

Also, i just posted this deal because this was the all-time lowest for this headphone.
I have no experience with these Denon headphones , but I am looking for a decent closed-back headphone and this came up.

At this point, my strongest advice is to wait and see what comes out for bluetooth headphones, because LC3Plus implementations should be superior to aptX HD and LDAC, and lossless compression is even possible with proprietary codecs.

That allows you to grab a portable headphone and use it with all your devices, only charging it once a week. Closed back headphone fidelity tends to be fine for that standard of audio compression, and really only extends beyond that level of technical performance once you get past $1500 (though HIFIMAN, Sennheiser, Sony/Playstation, and Audeze may start to challenge this over the next few years).

I don't know why you got negged

People think I'm being an oppressive snob, when I'm just trying to cover the options and evaluate the value. The Denon has mushy bass and arguably fails to separate itself from the Maxwell despite having some strengths… might be a hair too v-shaped for those seeking neutrality.

K371 really doesn't sit far behind but will sound less spacious and the treble is a little more grainy/etched (though without being harsh). The Focal Radiance deal was good, but even that is an audible step back from their open back offerings.

Closed back headphones just have huge challenges when it comes to dealing with the impact of the additional bass conductance, audio reflections, resultant distortion and/or lack of macro or micro contrast depending on the approach taken, and they're not solved without expensive engineering solutions today. In the future, we might see affordable metamaterials help, or multi-driver headphones, or new driver technology (eg. MEMS-based solutions, effectively a fully digital speaker driver).

I think most value your input. I certainly don't know much technically about headphones but I do know plenty would sound fine to me. I have kids and TVs so closed back is good and these look pretty cool. Certainly looks aren't a top priority but it doesn't not matter at all either otherwise manufacturers wouldn't bother. I figure if I only own $200 headphones and I buy $600 ones they'll sound better so if I'm not comparing them to 50 others it won't matter. You do advise fairly regularly to wait and buy nothing too which isn't really in the nature of ozb haha!

@drprox: Playstation Pulse Elite might be a very high value buy for you in the near future (Feb).

          I don't even think that,
but I found in more 'recent times',
          an increase in "negging" someone.

I mean, if it's nothing malicious of spiteful,
just leave it for posterity's sake.
