It's that a record price? See previous Guinness World Records deals they have been quiet popular.

This year's edition compiles the very best of the thousands of new records approved over the past year. And with lockdowns and quarantines gradually becoming a distant memory for much of the world, the claims have bene flooding in!

• Take the plunge with our opening BLUE PLANET chapter, celebrating watery wonders from rivers, lakes and oceans to icescapes and hot springs.

• HISTORY is a new feature chapter for GWR 2024. Egyptians, pirates, catapulting knights, vampires and ghosts all vie for your attention in this crazy chronicle of the past 2,000 years.

• In the poster-like Explainers, 3D artist Alex Pang peels away the layers of some iconic record breakers. Have you ever seen inside an octopus's head? Or wondered how the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park are brought to life? Let us explain…

• And finally, we end the book with every significant new sporting achievement logged in the 30-page SPORTS chapter.

For this year's edition, award-winning artist Rod Hunt has created a dazzling cover packed with record holders. How many can you spot? This is Rod's fourth and (sadly) final outing for GWR, and as we're focusing on the theme of water this time around, he's conjured up an aquatic wonderland. Once again, it "jigsaws" with the covers for the past three years, making a beautiful, highly collectable composite that transports you from the outer reaches of space to the depths of Earth's oceans.

Can these records not just be online? Why do we need a book

      $

The books are good stocking stuffers for kids. My kids enjoy flicking through the previous years when they're bored. Each one has different, interesting features.

I agree… but how do they pick the new record holders for next year already?

They haven't broken any delivery reliability records

    • I’ve never had a problem with big W delivery or their customer service and I’ve ordered a lot from them. Did you try to contact them?

      • Yes, twice. No reply either time. I even had to do a chargeback

    Is this Amazing Record included?

  • Awesome thanks OP. I was holding off on my Big W cart hoping they would do this deal like last year

    • I'll I need now is a big cash back to go along with the order

Hopefully new edition has most boost Sims purchased or best price error that was honoured (bunnings)

Does JV still hold the record for "most negative votes received"?

  • How do they know what the records will be next year?

    • It is a notebook. You note the records as they happen.

The Economist published an enjoyable article about this recently:

    https://www.economist.com/1843/2023/11/10/anyone-can-break-a…

    • For a fee that starts at £11,000, a company or individual can hire GWR to help them set or break a record. GWR’s “consultants” will advise on the logistics involved in staging and adjudicating the attempt, while its in-house production team will film content and edit it into social-media-friendly clips.

      • +2

This is true. I engaged them to try and get some work publicity. I completed a form and organised a video chat with a consultant from Europe. She didn't turn on her video. And she was dismissive and completely unprofessional. Terrible experience.

    • Thanks for that link…that took a surprising turn and changed my views a little

    • Can't read it as it's behind a paywall.

      • Not on PC (Chrome), but paywalled on mobile. Interesting.

Edit: Oh. Could be Ghostery or Adblock doing their bit.

  • Guinness World Records was criticised by television talk show host John Oliver on the program Last Week Tonight with John Oliver in August 2019. Oliver criticised Guinness for taking money from authoritarian governments for pointless vanity projects.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness_World_Records#Change_…

Authoritarians love getting Guinness World Records … They reinforce a cult of personality and confer a sense of legitimacy on a global stage.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9QYu8LtH2E&t=14m41s

    • You do know all western countries have an Authoritarian govt, these days, right? We are so democratic, the default gov thinking is: war is good, censorship is good, your body is my choice (covid), and the constitution is a mere suggestion. The only say you do have is about identity politics (LGBT, race issues). And on the important issues, economics, immigration, war, etc… both parties are identical. Not only do you have no say, there isn't even a discussion.

      • Spoken like a true Russian bot. Good bot.

      • Well gee, quite the tangent there. Which is not to say that the points you raised aren't valid or accurate, only that their relevance might be questioned within this particular forum.

Being concerned about the state of the world, and wishing to possess a political enthusiasm and astuteness to go with it, is healthy and admirable. Values and belief systems that many of us held at a younger age (which I suspect may well be your demographic) before becoming a little more jaded with humanity as the years progressed. A realisation that there are just too many people who don't really get it, or would genuinely care even if they did. And that, as regular citizens, we're much too powerless to change anything in any significant way even if we wanted to.

So sadly, I struggle to respond to your post in any meaningful manner. But who knows, maybe your generation can save the world. I wish you well.

  • I saw a GWR clip recently for "fastest time eating 500grams of mozzarella "

Kmart will price match. Maybe more convenient for some.

I got the book last year and the text is very small - I just put it away after straining to read a single fact. So do the kiddos.

  • People still read these?

    • It's a stocking filler for my nephew every year

  • Coming up as $25 for me?

  • These have always been great with the kids in the past
Me, prefer a Guinness pie :)

  • Guinness have been misleading people for years with their books. The majority of world records are actually not in the book. It only contains a selection of them (only the most interesting ones).

  • Clicked the link today and it's still showing up as $25?

    • There is a Blue banner that says that deal starts Tomorrow.

  • What time today are we talking?

  • Bought one, cheers OP

Why not C&C with Big W? Do they still stuff up orders for C&C too? (Not done this with Big W before.)

    • Get dressed, get in the car, turn car on, curse the petrol price thrice, drive in traffic to Big W for 10 minutes or more, find a park, curse the lack of parking within a walkable distance, enjoy the musac, ride the escalators trying not to touch the sides, make your way to the back of the store, join the click and collect queue along with everyone else who's having problems printing photos, wait patiently while they scan your code with their oversized death ray machine, disappear to the storage area why they have a durrie and a cup of tea, try not to pass out while waiting for their return, it's wrapped up tighter than Fort Knox in a mile of packing tape, take it to the exit where you are body frisked and the purchase is ignored, return to your car, if you can remember where you parked it, try to turn it on, but now you have a flat because you left the lights on. Try to call roadside assist, but your phone isn't working because your sim slutting to Boost has failed and now you only have SOS. Send up smoke signals for the Mrs to come get you, then listen to why you should have just got it from Amazon in the first place, since you are on OzBargain every moment of the day, on repeat until you get home and at random intervals over the next month.

      • Can expand on what type of clothes you put on?

        • Top hat and tails of course.

      • Amazon itself is out of stock, so normal price at 3rd party sellers

  • Thanks OP bought one

  • $12.50 and i'd guess over 50 units in stock at Macquarie Shopping Centre Big W (Sydney) if anyone is looking for them.
