No mention from Bose in specs/details on RMS power.

98.6dB SPL at max volume with minimal compression = good.
Speaker down-mixes everything to mono = bad (but pretty standard for a PA system).

Probably wouldn't buy if I was just after a loud Bluetooth speaker for small gatherings / listening outside etc.

    • +2

Yes, typical Bose, doing their best to hide the actual specifications. They are rated at 70w RMS I believe. Not really PA speaker figures.

    • But One Superior Example?

  • +2

Note this is also the old model. S1 Pro Plus has replaced it with improvements.

    • +1

still a great speaker for this price

Bought one in the last deal. Sounds great and plenty loud.

For those looking for a bag for it, I ended up buying from Aliexpress a custom case with dedicated pockets for mics (2x) and 2 other rectangular side pockets..

Picked up another 2 - got 2 in the last deal as well. These things are shockingly great for music. I would never have thought I would purchase a Bose PA but here we are - it's an excellent system!

    • I thought these were pretty good too, until i tried an EV Everse 8. They are a ‘real’ PA speaker with real PA power and blows the Bose out of the water. Makes these sound like toys.

      • Yep. Bose are toys. Marketing company that sell speakers

      • I might go for the second-hand S1 Pro instead of the mini SoundLink, it is portable enough.

      • +2

At more than twice the price, one would hope so.

      • +1

Best to compare two speakers at the same price range, otherwise it's like comparing Toyota to Lamborghini.

        • Not really, RRP is only $200 more than the bose. They are all the same category of speaker.

          • +1

@pauliau: yeah, but you can't get that EV speaker for $749 right?

            • @luminair: Above the RRP, not this clearance price obviously. They weren't on clearance back when i was looking. The Bose RRP is $1099. I got EVs for $900 each with some bargaining.

              • +1

@pauliau: Yeah, unless you can get the EVs for $749, then the $200 RRP difference you mentioned is no much point. Still a different grade.

      • +1

Pretty sure my Bose L1 Pro 32 line array with Sub 2 will blow that little toy out of the water…

        • And sound like they’re out of phase at the same time 😆

          • @pauliau: Not sure what crack you’ve been smoking but it must be the good stuff 👍

  • +1

There may soon be many S1 Pro units available in the used market as users upgrade to the newer model.

  • What is the difference between the “battery included” option and the “no battery + battery pack” in Amazon
And which one is the same as the one in jb hi fi?

    • +1

      None

  • Bought the S1 Pro+ for $935.20, JB price matched Myer's.

  • +1

I saw this deal and bought one from JB this week. Just tried it out at a gig, works great as an acoustic guitar amp. Bass response is incredible for a smaller speaker, just be aware that EQ is limited so will likely need a decent preamp on your guitar to control problem frequencies. Battery gives heaps of flexibility, very happy with this for the price!
