Bunnings Price Guarantee - Does It Work?

Found two deals today cheaper than Bunnings' best 'Clearance' prices.

It seems one cannot go into the store and show them to get a 'Beat' approved. Their policy requires you send them an email.

So I sent one this morning, requesting the 'prices on the two items I found, with URIs to each showing their prices, be beaten by 10%'

Alas, no response.

Nada.

Is the guarantee worth anything?

Has anyone had them actually beat another retailer's price?

Yes. I took a print out and had the link on my phone. Was a bricks and mortar store (Beaumont Tiles). There was some complaints at the checkout as the Caroma toilet I was beating technically wasn't a code match. But by going to the information counter first and having them approve it, the checkout had no choice.

They will do everything to make it impossible to get a beat.

Also don't forget delivery, they include that in the total price unless the store is based somewhere 'nearby'

Yes, albeit better for Bunnings than us.

It CAN work - but Bunnings is one of those places that get their own SKUs for items - so sometimes they will refuse to match because the SKU doesn't line up - even though its the same item.

Has anyone had them actually beat another retailer's price?

    Yes, but always in person.

Beat another stores click and collect price on a Honda UMK425 at Bunnings, no issue

Took about a week before I got an email response from Bunnings for a price match

  • Kind of. It can be a scam with postage.

Like if a competitor offers free postage, Bunnings match the price and then add on their own postage. Which doesn't match it.

This is for scenarios where Bunnings sell things that are only offered via postage and you can't pick up in store.

So they don't actually match the price because they don't match the free postage and then add on their own fee. So it is dishonest.

    • I can see why they'd think adding shipping would be ok as they never ship free and focus on in-store customers. They do not market (only sell) online via their own site, as a method of getting people in the door that otherwise wouldn't buy. Short sighted in the Internet age, but it is the way shop owners have thought for generations before eCommerce. Bunnings are the last bastions of in-person shopping, so no need to do better (they must think).

Their policy however forces the customer to:

      • not go in store to buy (unless you go in store and ask- but why would you, as this allows them to weasel out and say 'you have to email us')
      • pay shipping if they don't go in store to collect
      • wait (or accept the FU (you're too cheap for us approach), while waiting it out for their response. There is no automated reply, so for all you know you're email went to spam, will be ignored, etc.

At the end of the day, the policy collects market recon (for free), and avoids ever selling anything cheap, while only alienating a few customers. Perfect!

However it affects you, at least its here for all to see on OzB.

  • I only managed to price beat on the 43rd of febtember.

  • For anyone wondering, this is the policy that stops them having to give away discounts wheneer they don't feel like it:

    Price policy
Our lowest prices policy means that if you find a competitor's lower price (including GST and delivery charges) on the same in-stock item, we'll beat it by 10%. This excludes trade quotes, stock liquidations, commercial quantities, and items sold by other Bunnings Group businesses and Bunnings Marketplace.

Our Price Policy also applies online to products sold by Bunnings. Please contact Customer Support at [email protected] to process the price guarantee and place your order.

      Huh

Our Price Policy also applies online to products sold by Bunnings

      • Thanks for the reality check. I went to the page to find out how to get them beat a price, but only found that policy.

But it seems I should have assumed it was possible by just asking in store.

Anyhow, yes. I see how you take the context of the paragraph to imply this. Ugh!

tbf there is still nothing to stop a Bunnings staff member saying you'll have to send an email to this address to do this, as per the above policy. Given the instruction to email doesn't actually say there is any other way, or it should be one way for in-store items, and another for online.

  • They can be pedantic about it sometimes. I’ve had mixed experiences getting price matches, but usually they aren’t too bad.

  • I've had 2 purchases with price beat, 100% worked each time. Just showed them the item online. If required, They ring up the store and enquire if stock is available, and that's it. They price beat it by 10%
