  • Received the MB from previous deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/805216
The Bios has been updated to 2204, so the 13600K will have no dramas to install on the Z680-E MB.
Now just waiting an AIO and RAM deal on Black Friday…

z690 mobo is OVERkill for this cpu

      • +1

It's an unlocked K processor, if you want to overclock it and get the most out of it you need a Z series board, care to share your reasoning on this one.

  • +1

at this price does anyone think its worth getting/waiting for a 7800x3d? looking to pair with a 4070 for 1080p

    • +2

I have this CPU but the kf (no igpu). it's a very hot CPU ..not very good on efficiency
If primary purpose is gaming you can't beat the 7800x3d.
If I were to build right now.id get the 7800x3d.
The bpc deal is pretty much on point if you need a whole pc

      • i have the kf and it sits around 30C on idle and around 35C with about 40 tabs in chrome open.
i have it running on water.

        • I have the peerless assassin in a torrent nano. I have it at 37 idle but it doesn't take much for it to hit 88degrees.
I undervolted it with an offset of -100mv to now hit a max of 78 degrees.
Default tdp is 125w with a boost to 180w.
          7800x3d is 120 tdp which maxes around 160 w

          • @maverickjohn: i havent seen mine go over 60C
I have it on Lumen S28 RGB V2 cooler

            • @Wiadro: I think that's what you need to cool this CPU 240 and above AIO will all cool more than air coolers.

          • -1

@maverickjohn: that only mean your cooler/cooling is inadequate, nothing to do with this CPU. And it is way more than 180w tdp, which you also get it wrong. I only use noctua D14, standard 12cm case fan, which stable at 79 degree with 20 threads burning. Also, with that tempreture, I bet your cooler/case combination is not right for cooling, which I saw that on lots of gaming rig. Lots of builders have no idea or care about how cooling works, in this case, you put a 360 AIO won't help much either.

            • @leetec: A lot of assumptions there. And don't tell me I'm wrong without backing that up.
It's literally listed on Intel's website
              https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/230493/…
I think you need to research before you start spurting out incorrect comments.
And for your information my set up is perfectly fine and within the expectations of what this CPU should be. It's just a very hot CPU.
A reviewer used a 5800x which is a cooler CPU than the 13600k and was getting 83 degrees under load in the same case and similar CPU cooler.
              https://youtu.be/3w0G_NP-nJY?si=T0Pk5cVdFcAr-dEt
So again don't go spouting nonsense.

For more information to continually prove you wrong here is a reviewer measuring the CPU wattage and the following page measuring temperatures. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-13600k/22.h…
Stock hits 187w slightly higher than claimed but not far off what I had mentioned

              • -2

@maverickjohn: Yeah right, typical saying assumptions. As a tech guy we reply on data and logic, same as you said intel official data is 180w which is true, then you assume that is all? Nope, a tech guy still need to compare it in real life and that is verifing, then it is much more hotter than that. funny it already has many reviews out that but you don't read it, and you assume it's 180w, and accuses me assumption? Lol. And your comments already clearly showing the fact is cooling problem, simple fact don't need assumptions. Nonsense? what a joke.

                • @leetec: You are still full of talk with no evidence so how about you start providing some evidence rather than resorting to dismissing all claims. You cant counter any of my points with anything other than your own rhetoric so how about you just keep quiet unless you can bring something useful to the table..
You've got no idea but just try to claim you do. So come back when you can bring something useful rather than your baseless claims.
Regardless the point remains the CPU hits those points it's a hot cpu. The advertised cooling of my CPU cooler is designed to cover up to 200+ tdp which it is doing.
It's just reaching the upper limit of the CPU coolers capacity
And I also provided you with an article showing stock levels which correlates Intel's argument.

              • @maverickjohn: Just watch a bit of that 2 links, was going to skip it, now confirmed your misunderstanding it.

      • What coooler are you using?

        • A few messages above I mentioned using a torrent nano case and the peerless assassin 120 CPU cooler

          • @maverickjohn: Yes 13Gen K CPUs are hot cups, but they shouldn’t be that hot like yours always working at 88 degrees.
I would recheck all fans, even maybe a wrong fan direction if I was you, 88 degrees is an unhealthy environment for CPUs. From so many reviews of 13600K, seemed the CPU temperatures are easy to be managed.
I’m getting a LT720 for this 13600k in a fractal north, and I assume this shouldn’t be any dramas to control the CPU temperature.

            • @Dan4113: Nope I verified all the fans directions before installing. Look at the link above for the reviews. They are all in line with what I am getting. It's not abnormal.
Anyway after my undervolt gaming load etc tend to hover around 77-79 degrees.

              • @maverickjohn: 79 seems still little too high. Maybe redo the thermal paste, even a new cooler?
Luckily I’m using an atx case that allows me to install a 360 aio.

                • @Dan4113: That's why I mentioned it's best to use a 240 AIO or above.
The thermal paste is brand new. I promise this is normal look at the video review above for a lower wattage cpu

            • -1

@Dan4113: he has no idea how thing works but assume he is correct.

          • +1

@maverickjohn: mt bad, only saw it later after I posted

            • +1

              @TilacVIP: All good buddy.

              • @maverickjohn: I forgot to say, with a cooler as that, you'd expect better temps, and we;re not even in the Summer temps yet, and I'm assuming that 88c is not a one off?

Was looking at the 13600K myself, will dive a bit deeper into this now.

                • @TilacVIP: It's a good cpu but you should use a higher end AIO for optimal temp control
The caveat to that if you have a large case with more fans for better airflow it may prevent the higher temps.
My torrent nano is the best in class when it it comes to itx class air flow but ultimately still an itx
