Best deal so far. I actually bought it yesterday at $383, but realized it dropped to even further. The difference between Z690 and Z790 is minimal so this is a real deal

  • Good deal! Nearly grabbed one yesterday as well, when you recommended it. Wondering whether to wait further for Black friday or click frenzy. Also, haven't strongly made up my mind about whether going with Intel or AMD yet. But given the prices of motherboard, its good to see some deals.

    • +2

The Amazon sales yesterday for PC stuff wasn't much to write home about.

Hopefully Black Friday will have a better price for this MB.

      • Yeah, a really lacklustre sale event. Fingers crossed!

      • Hmm. Hopefully. Would be a good time to get parts for a build. I wonder does this particular board support 14th gen Intel?

        • +2

14th gen is still 1700; I assume a BIOS update would fix compatible issue for it, the same as Z690 for 13th gen CPU

      • Best one was the Ryzen 9 7900x for $585 delivered in yesterdays Amazon sales

    • +3

AMD Ryzen 8000 CPUs (Zen 5) to Use TSMC 3nm Node in 2024, Zen 6 will Leverage 2nm

These are going to beat intels 10nm 14th gen
That this board maxes out on

Hardware unboxed recommends AM5 for new builds

    • The MSI MPG B650I EDGE WIFI ITX AM5 was at $310 for a length of time, and was rec'd by Machines and More.

  • +1

Still too expansive for last gen

    • How is this last gen? It supports 13th Gen Intel and from what we know so far 14th gen (yet to be released) will be on the same socket.

      • +1

Perhaps because current-gen is Z790 series.

I thought Meteor Lake will be using the LGA 1851 socket.

        • 14th gen will be still on 1700; but the performance booster-up won't be that significant than 12 to 11 any more as it still uses similar architecture as 12/13.

  • I didnt know z690 could do PCIe 5.0

  • Is this more worthwhile than the MSI PRO B760M-A WIFI DDR5 Motherboard which is about $100 cheaper? It's the one i'm looking at for my build and almost bought it yesterday. I'm not sure what the numbers mean, I thought bigger number tends to be better yet i'm seeing this 690 that's $100 more. What's the key differences, would it matter?

I'm seeing now that since I'm grabbing a 13th gen intel CPU I'll need to update the BIOS, is this difficult or make a big difference?

    • First of all, Z series is top of Intel consumable Mobo, so Z>B; then comes the series like Z690 or Z790. But the difference between 690 and 790 is minimal.

By considering this, I would prefer Z790 to B760, although the latter is slight newer gen. Also my past experience has excluded MSI as it is not as good as Asus products, but this is only personal preference.

      • msi > asus for current gen intel. asus is living off past glory

        • The M2 heatsink screws on my MSI Z690 Tomahawk DDR4 motherboard were wonky and stripped off so now I can't install a fourth SSD…
I've read that ASUS uses threadlockers on their M2's and that could be a whole other world of pain…

I'm probably an edge case but really all the brands find some way of sucking in some way or another. Hardware / software wise my MSI seems to run mostly fine. Have had my fair share of blue screens but that could be anything…

That said, I have read there are quite significant audio issues with the ASUS boards relating to audio crackling but whether they are driver or hardware related… who knows…

I think what it really comes to down is the number of SATA and M2 slots you want and then you just have to kick up a fuss if anything is wrong.

          • @nea ozb: damn that sucks, if it's within warranty period surely that is valid grounds for RMA?

            • @povogamer: yeah look I took a dremel to it already… no luck gutting the thing yet but no rush.

Centrecom wanted me to bring in my whole PC and I really just couldn't be fked dragging a desktop around on a tram or booking several Ubers.

Centrecom wanted me to bring in my whole PC

welp I heard centrecom CS is pretty bad and it seems that's true. i suppose the motherboard is the one component where you have to be open to RMA'ing since there are many points of possible failure, e.g. socket pins being bent, dimm slots being faulty, or just a build quality issue such as yours. thanks for the update I probs won't buy a mobo from centrecom in the future

@povogamer: yeah it definitely isn't the best but not the worst in Victoria at least I have had very friendly staff unlike CPL aka the bastion of shit customer service the moment you step inside, honestly I think everywhere is going to give a bit of hassle aside from Amazon… as you say there's a lot of room for customer error… just not with stripped screws!

Actually if I had to buy my PC all over again, I'd be less opposed to dealing with an online store than only wanting to do it in-store.

  • look for MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk sales, I got mine for $289 and 13900k is happy with it.

  • I was waiting for a Z790 or 690 DDR5 tuf gaming MB for a good price, but hey, this one is the one better and cheaper, didn't need to think twice then made the order.
    Thanks OP.
