Just came across this deal on the HP Australia website, not sure how long it will be active for.

Seems like a pretty good deal for a slim, light, moderately powerful laptop with a good screen and colour accuracy.

Comparable to Lenovo Legion Slim 7i, Asus ROG Zephyrus M16/G16, and similar portable laptops.

swap the bloody I9 to R9 and reduce a bit price I will bite… no fxxking expensive& hot Intel..

    • I wish there were more laptops with R9 this year, I want me some of that performance per wattage goodness 😋

  • Lenovo is at 2k with similar specs

    • With the rtx 4070, unfortunately not. I've been keeping an eye on it as that's my number 1 for what I want, it's a few hundred dollars more expensive atm so waiting for it to go on sale. Plus this Omen has a much better screen for HDR, brightness, content creation.

      • Go for a rx 7900m dell m18 gaming laptop. 3500 is a killer price for it.

        • Dell is not (very) portable.
Comes down to personal use case.

        • What desktop card would be equivalent to the 7900m?

        • -1

dont buy 90 class sh*t on laptops and esp not dells seriously

      • You need to wait for a good cashback to pair with a sale. I got the Legion 7i with i9, 32gb, 4070, 1tb for $2750 after cashback 2 weeks ago.
Prefer the Lenovo for the keypad over the Omen personally

        • I'm hoping Lenovo have that exact config but for the slim 7i discounted for black friday. I also prefer the numpad on Lenovo, but I love the mini led on this Omen and the Asus M16. How's the screen on your Legion? Would you say it gets bright enough?
Cash rewards have 4.5% cashback offer for HP atm, but it doesn't apply to already discounted items ☹️

            @ro88i: 10% @Topcashback
            You're welcome 😉

            • @Gunk: Legend! I will update the post

          • @ro88i: Brightness has been fine for me, using during the day in a pretty light room and leave brightness around 80% still, I haven't found a need to go to 100% yet

  • Do they stop selling Omen deal with 4090 one?

    • +2

Yeah the ck2013TX been out of stock for a while ;(

    • Interesting, this Dell is cheaper configured with the RTX 4070 than the RTX 4060.

    • +3

Yes cheaper, but nearly 1kg heavier and an inferior screen. I guess it boils down to what someone is after.

      • +1

that’s worth an extra $700 huh geez

        • +1

Like I said I guess it depends on what someone is after, for me I'm not interested in that Dell due to the weight and screen.

    • +1

After owning a Dell and going through non-stop issues, I'd never buy a Dell again

      • Hp and dell in the same category for me average at best

Had hp laptop before never again

    • +3

I hear you, for what's out there it is a bit overpriced but these style of laptops (portability, performance, screen) are mostly always overpriced.

Those laptops you listed are either much bigger and heavier (great specs no doubt) or inferior specs (rtx 3060 / FHD) so I suppose it matters what a person is after. For me I'm wanting a portable laptop for travel with still has good battery and performance which is why I compared it to the slim 7i and M16 as they fall in that category.

This is actually not too bad specs per value, considering the 13900HX and the miniled here, however, I struggle to see usecase for such a machine:

OP is not wrong to compare it with Legion slim or Zephyrus as a thin n light 16' gaming laptop, however the H55 chip here killed any semblance of battery life (and really, the portability aspect of it along with it), the previous two machines - even with the intel H45 skus - actually have decent battery runtime - Jarrod have benchmarked the new 13th gen -H against the amd phoenix -HS chips and they offer comparable - lower by just a bit - battery life.

Now, if the inclusion of the 13900HX is to make it a better performing laptop over competitors, that also makes little sense, this being a thin n light, heavily compromises on cooling solution - the 13700HX model - even fails to outperform many 13700H machines (remember, these are completely different chips, the HX are repurposed desktop dies with more cores, l3 cache and unlocked to use with xtu). If the 13700HX is already struggling this much in a thermally compromised chassis, the 13900HX will only suffer more and actual performance gains (at the cost of, as previously mentioned, massively worse battery life) is minimal.

And then there is the upgradability, the transcend have a 2tb stock ssd (which is nice, dont get me wrong), but there is no upgrade path, as for a 16' machine, this only have one ssd slot - and remember, this isnt magically thinner than competitors by any margin to justify that cut down storage, at least it have two ram slots i guess?

Just overall a weird decision making from HP engineers to make a laptop that have a conflict identity in what it wants to be. Its not a great portable machine and its not a great desktop replacement machine.

    • Damn man. Great info. Thanks.

    • Yeah they could've done much better with components in this laptop. Interesting thing is that thermals are actually pretty good with this HX in the Omen so I think they underpowered it, they could've pushed it a bit further in my opinion to get better performance out of it.

I was after a very similar miniLED machine myself because I had a 17" miniLED laptop before. However they don't offer RTX4080 or 4090 n this for some reason.
So I ended up going with Legion pro 7i and trust me, the miniLED is not a big loss at all! The only other decent option was Legion 9i which is waaaay overpriced even with the Blackfriday early access sales. And the Asus Strix Scar 16 / 18 advertise miniLED but give you IPS haha (not to mention coil whine issues)

        • Yeah we get screwed here in Aus when it comes to laptop configurations, in USA for example they have the Asus Zephyrus M16 with up to a rtx 4090 with the Mini LED, where we only get up to rtx 4070. Also, in USA/UK they get the Legion slim 7 with AMD chip and we don't.

I have heard about some of those Asus laptops and there coil whine issue, seems like there QC is not up to par at the moment so I might have to steer clear.

Thanks for the comments regarding your experience with Mini LED screens, glad to know that if I go with the Legion I might not be missing much.

          • @ro88i: All good buddy. It was more the fomo of switching to a normal IPS screen than any significant real difference in quality. What helped me take the leap was realising that miniLED usually have a standard brightness of approx 600nits (1100nits IS only reached as the Max peak brightness on the brightest spots of a scene in HDR) while the Legions are known to have upto 515nits measured (I think by MashIT). Then I realised I hardly ever had the monitor running at Max brightness, even less so when on battery. That leaves you with the stringer contrasts that come with miniLED - at 16" it is hard to tell when you are watching media or playing a game. You stop missing it after a few hours of not having it. Instead invest in a good gaming monitor like the Dell 3223Q and you'll be very pleased 👍

        Beastly

  • +1

    Too much money for just a 4070. Over 3k you'd want a 4080

    • You'd want a 4090 considering it has been on here before.

      • +2

Yeah but that was one in a million and there's no shot you going to see that again lol

    • Agreed, but it is in line with similar laptops from Legion slim7i and even cheaper then Asus M16 with similar specs

  • Too big and heavy and 4070. No

    • +1

      2.1kg 16" too heavy?

      • I know price of $2919 is OK. But after I used Rog Flow x13 (1.3 kg) and Lenovo Yoga pro 9i (1.7kg). This thing is not for me.

  • For HP laptops, if there are any issues, you would have your laptop services by APCD in Granville.
They are lazy and hopeless and because of this, I would avoid all HP laptops, until they get a different repairer.

  • Price is $2191 in title, $2919 in description.

    • Thanks for bringing to my attention, editing on my phone and mistyped. Have updated title now.

  • Have Omen laptops improved since 2020-2021 ? I've read that the keys on the keyboard would malfunction or outright fail.
