Pretty good price. I paid $100 for the open move, it was a lot more than I'd like to have paid but they're very durable and the USB C port is worth the compromise. I'd have hated having to remember the little magnetic adapter..

  • I've been through 2 OpenComms now, they lasted about 16 months each (second was under warranty) - but I used them continuously in sweaty tropical rainy Darwin. This time got an OpenRun which has somewhat higher water resistance. I love the boom mike sound quality but not enough for the premium currently…

Anyone used the swim version? I run with the run version and I'm pretty happy with them.

I'm tempted by the swim edition, but I only swim once or twice a week

    • +1

Believe they're non Bluetooth, if that impacts your choice.

    • +3

Buy now & swim more later ;)

    • +1

Like another user mentioned, openswim is an mp3 player without bluetooth connectivity.

    • 100% worth it, you'll need to load files manually, but they are even better for lap-swimming than the openrun's were for running.

    • +7

Been using open swim for a couple of years. It's been a game changer for me. There is no Bluetooth as radio waves do not traverse under water. I have to manually load MP3 on to it. They come with ear plugs and a specific swimming mode(seems to amplify bass a bit), so there's is less interference from the sloshing of water. It's pretty clear under water. It has made lap swimming very enjoyable. I switch it to running mode for my runs. There is a lot of ambient noise in this mode but I guess that is the point. I find it heaps more comfortable than galaxy buds. Would definitely recommend it for swims. I am now thinking of buying a second pair of Bluetooth headphones just for my runs.

    • +1

My partner uses it while swimming with an audiobook loaded on and it works very well

  • Wish the Open fit was on sale.
Already have Open run pro and Open run pro mini. It's that good that I want more.

  • +1

Is there a general consensus on the best one for cycling?

    • If you have a smaller head. Choose a mini model. Wearing an oversized band with a helmet I imagine to be annoying.

      • I've noticed that it's not just a 'smaller head'. People with thick necks (think your typical middle-aged male who drinks too much beer) can't get the band around the back of the neck.

        • +2

does beer add to neck thickness?

      • +1

Just tried them on at JBHIFI – even if you have an average head, mini is the go I reckon

        • Can confirm. I definitely don't have a small head and the mini fits me fine.

    • +1

Bone conduction headphones is generally considered safest (nothing at all going in the ear to impair hearing) and bone conduction options are pretty limited aside from Shokz (the other no name ultra cheapy bone conduction headphones seem to all hv crappy reviews) so yeah, the Shokz ones are probably best for cycling

BUT, there's a new one thats recently been released - Suunto Wing. One review I saw said this is good (search youtube) and another review that popped up on my feed says its meh

So I went the safe route and just got the OpenRun Pro

      Thanks OP

      • i got some cheapo one from amazon for under $40 i think and it gets the job done for running/cycling

    • I use the openmove while riding a mix of road and shared trails, can be a bit fiddly to put on while wearing a helmet but once on I recommend. I love that I can hear my music/streams and still hear what’s going on around me.

    • +1

I would say OpenRun (or the Pro) non-mini version is the best option for cycling.

I've got the old Aeropex model, which is equivalent to the OpenRun Pro non-mini, and used it daily during lockdown (1hr exercise with no cars on the roads - ah those were the days!)

The sides of the OpenRuns are smaller, which is important in terms of space for the helmet straps and sunglass arms on the sides of your head. The non-mini version makes it easier to put on and take off when you're already wearing your helmet and sunglasses.

    • +1

I’ve used both OpenRun and the new OpenFit for cycling and home, work etc.

Both work fine - as advertised - you can hear what’s going on ans you cycle and your music, podcast, audiobook etc. The sound quality of the OpenFit is better than OpenRun. But neither is going to satisfy an audiophile!

When it’s windy, the sound is not as clear as (in-ear) PowerBeats Pro. And I don’t think either Shokz model is great for phone calls when on the bike. Even in calm conditions the person on the other end struggles to hear me clearly with the Shokz. Powerbeats Pro were good for calls in calm or tailwind conditions.

Around home and in the office I love the OpenFit. I regularly wear them all day - don’t even notice them and can converse with those around me easily. The lack of headband and better sound is worth the extra $ compared to OpenRun IMO.

What I’d like Shokz to improve is the controls. Customisation is easy in the app, but the tap mechanism isn’t as easy to use as the PowerBeats Pro.

    • +1

I went with OpenRun because at the time it’s IP rating was higher than the Pro (it might still be the case).

  • +3

Great price! Paid $188 from Officeworks for OpenRuns earlier this year. Wife loves them. Picked up a second pair for kids Xmas present.

Highly recommended for ASD kids who struggle with social anxieties. Gives them a distraction, whilst still being present and able to communicate with family. As opposed to over ear headphones that block out everything. Obviously everyone's needs are different, but these work for us.

    • +3

Yes, I primarily wear these as AuDHD therapy/noise override. There's a lot of earplugs marketed for such but wearing things in or over your ears gets uncomfortable after a few hours at best whereas these are so comfy I forget they are there. They don't stop noise directly but music both overrides it and calms me directly.

  • +1

Alright brains trust. I've never used bone conduction headphones but I run quite a lot (and increasing) and think these are compelling.
At the moment I'm just using some in ear Plantronics that have been reliable, music quality is average and I'm ok with that but think these would be comfier over multiple hours.
Is it actually worth paying $40 more for the pro given they're probably both sortve average listening wise? (Again I accept this given what they're for but hoping someone can comment having heard both)

Edit - I've seen the non pro are more waterproof so going with those!

    • +1

See if your local JB has a demo set. Forgot to mention, for me, so much comfier and can wear the whole day. I don't worry about them falling out, and it's hygienic. For what it's worth, I wear glasses so over ear has not really worked out well for me.

    • These are awesome. Get one with storage and leave the phone at home

  • +2

These are the 'best' mobile headphones I have ever owned.

Incredibly comfortable unlike IEMs, don't fall out like earbuds, you can still hear things around you for safety. And the sound quality is remarkably good- they won't compare to audiophile IEMs or circumaural cabled headphones, but they are easily 'good enough' and better than big name ANC headphones I've tried.

  • +1

I am a cyclist (average 10,000kms) per annum. Always been interested in these but never purchased. Decided to get the OpenMove to see how I go!

I live in Brisbane and do the 'river loop' several morning per week, given the shared paths and mixed (albeit quiet at 5am) roads safety has always been my main priority.

    • +3

Since no other replies I will try and answer based on quick try out at JBHIFI

They work surprisingly well - not as good as in ear perhaps, but their point of difference is that they leave your eyes "open" to hear other things.

From my test the OpenMove is okay, but kinda entry level and maybe a bit bulky and maybe slightly less comfortable.
The OpenRun is slimmer and has a few more features like water resistance etc. I think this is the sweet spot for most people and probably the marketing dept will agree as they have priced it accordingly. It's the one I got.
I haven't tried the higher levels, they seem to have longer battery life and better protection, probably a case of if you know you want it, then you'll know.
No idea about the mini or the one with the headset microphone.

Oh and they seem to fit when you wear a helmet on the bike, but you'll have to wiggle and make it suit. I see lots of riders with them.

I'm sure there will be people that know more, but hey they didn't reply, so you're stuck with my 2c. Hope it helps.

      • +2

Many thanks Snowie. I will use it on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail for dedicated cycle path riding. Listen to some podcasts/audiobooks. Test it on the streets but 50/50 since I do prefer to have full awareness.

        • +1

From reviews the main difference I can see is the volume on the openmoves is lower than the openruns so maybe see if that bothers you?

I hate missing bits of podcasts but if it's music it doesn't matter. Definately no point going openrun pros unless you need the battery life.

    • +1

I use OpenMove regularly on my ride and I quite like it. I’m not a heavy rider and I never use the run model so I can’t compare.

I think what will make a difference is the comfort once if you sweat a lot. I don’t sweat much because I ride river side and more at leisurely pace.

Sound wise its decent. Though I honestly think its as safe as wearing AirPods on transparency mode. You don’t really get to hear clearly especially if there’s strong wind and you pump up your volume. So use it with caution. I tend to lower my volume just so i have a bit of musical noise to keep me entertained, but I wouldn’t use it to hear podcasts or anything like that

  • what does 'pre-sale' mean, does this mean it will be better to wait and get a better deal

    • +1

It means that every retailer wants your money, before you spend it all with with someone else. So these "sale" periods become pre-sales and early bird and whatever else they can think to name it, in order to get your money first. The reality is, everything is always on sale. If it's not, it will be again soon. Good hunting.

  • Thanks OP - worked for me, but yeah I got the wheel spin code, ShokzBf23 and it didn't work, then tried the SHOKZSTRAVA23 and it worked but I had to be logged in - or at least that what seemed to make the difference.

Does anybody ever get the 100% free - something tells me no…

  • Thanks guys, ordered one

  • Ive got a trusty aeropex model that's still going strong. Can recommend.

Edit looks like openrun was rebranded from aeropex.

  • Good deal thanks op. For Open Run pro It's cheaper than Tmall/Taobao's Nov 11th special lol. Currently it's on sale for cny1098 / ~aud$236 plus shipping

  • Anyone tried these or both these and Shokz and care to comment thoughts?

Some of these models are cheaper at Mobileciti right now when using the code "SAVE11"
    e.g. Openrun Pro $167.11
    Openrun $131.56

    • Yep and of course I see this just after ordering. My forever impeccable timing.

      also 2%+ cashbacks…

    • is this still valid? can't seem to get the prices you are getting

      • +1

Unfortunately no. It was during their 11.11 sale which is over now

        • absolutely kicking myself!

  • +1

    Ordered one openswim

  • For those curious about bone conduction, they have demo models at our local JBs. I didn't really believe it at first, it was almost like a magic trick. Was very impressed, and got wife the Pro mini.

The proprietary charging is a -tve for me, so might go the Openmove. Having said that, I got some knock offs at AliXpress for <$10. Not 'true' BC (just tiny speakers near the ear) but good enough for a tenner.

  • Shame that it doesn't include Opencomm models. I guess I'll keep waiting for that to go on sale :(

  • Anyone used both the openrun and the openrun pro? It's the pro model worth it?

  • Thanks OP, ordered the OpenRun mini. Was keen on a set of these for when out walking listening to podcasts but still wanting to hear nature and other things around me. Might be a nicer way to take calls as well. I expect I'll still be running with my earbuds to zone out and push me with the bass. Plus I’m not keen on hearing myself breathing haha. But yeah, I like the idea of using these and not cutting the world out like earbuds and headphones do.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Bought the OpenSwim. Now just need to learn how to swim!

  • Which one has the best microphone in them?

    • None of these, but openoffice is built for that specifically. These are ok at a pinch but not great.

    • I use the openrun for calls and meetings all the time. Never had complaints, adequate enough.

  • Are these headphones for jogging? Why can't you use your Sony WH1000XM4s

  • +1

OpenFit has now been added to the sale - $249 (not sure if above discounts can be stacked).

    https://shokz.com.au/pages/black-friday-deals

  • +3

managed to get JB Livechat to provide a deal for the following:
    OpenFit $169
    Openrun Pro $149
    Openrun (mini) $119

these are the lowest price I have seen for ages.

    • What did you use for their price beat?

      • +1

i use nothing but i have used jb live chat to get the cheapest price i can get around australia. above are the pretty good example. i also get the eufy camera from $449 to $330 which is unheard of before.

edit: let me know if anyone want the openrun pro x1 or the openrun (mini) x 2 (must buy 2). i can give you the link which i didnt use to purchase direct from JB website. expired at 10:59pm tonight.

        • Hey can I get the link for the openrun Pro? Cheers appreciate it vm

    • They wouldnt do it for me, whatd you say?

      • I don’t know why but I have done it a few times.

        • Are you a wizard? Best they would do for me is $168 on openrun

          • @buff correll: sweet talk to them like they were your sweethearts? lol

      • long queue for jb livechat
for the openfit they couldn't do $169 but could do $200 in the end.

    • Is there a process steps I should if I want to buy the openrun and openruns at these prices in JB hi Fi store? I want to buy a pair from them

And if valid I would like the email of the openrun mini

  • Thanks, OP 🙏 I bought a second pair of Open Run for my partner - $134 is a bargain! 🤑 I bought my original pair for $219 😭 back in June but I use them all day everyday, mostly for phone calls and podcasts. The only issue I have with them, which goes for most headphones, is excessive wind noise for the person I'm speaking with when I'm out in the wind or riding my bike. A beanie doesn't fix this, as it did when I had Plantronics (RIP!) If anyone knows a solution to dealing with wind noise or of a set of BT headphones that address/ remove wind noise, I'd love to hear about it/ them. Cheers.

  • Btw I got hit with currency conversion fee (Virgin). Serves me right for not using one of my other cards I guess… But feel a bit cheated (like $4.xx).

    • +2

I paid using PayPal but unexpectedly got charged an international transaction fee by Shokz 4 days later. Web domain and order page all indicates this is a Shokz AU website. Does anyone know why there is an international transaction fee?

      • I similarly feel it's a bit of a scummy move. Having said that, they arrived last week and are good and much cheaper than retail. Tempted to get another pair…

  • +3

Anyone actually had their order/s shipped yet? 4 days and no movement…

    • Same, orderd OpenSwim on 10th Nov, nothing since.

      • Yep. Nothing here either.
