GearWrench 90T Ratchet Handles, 1/4" $20, 3/8" $29, 1/2" $39 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store/ OnePass) @ Bunnings

670

GearWrench 90 tooth ratchet handles going for a good price at Bunnings. I think they may be on clearance as they're under half the price of other retailers and had very little stock at my local store.

Must have been ozbargained already. The link was def working when I posted.

Edit: seems to be working again now.

      • Yep, back.

  • I ended up grabbing all three when I spotted them. They all seem very nice, especially at this price. The 1/4" seems especially nice to me though. Very low profile and very little play in the mechanism. The drag is a little heavy compared to premium ratchets, but still, great little ratchet for twenty squid.

    • Fantastic ratchets, easily better than the cheapie repco ones etc.

      • Repco have a lifetime warranty on their tools where you can exchange them at any Repco Australia wide with no receipt needed, it's one of the best return/exchange policies for tools in Australia.

GearWrench (Australia) only appear to have a optional lifetime warranty if you purchase it as an extra, it excludeds normal wear and tear and it's limited to the original purchaser at the place of purchase with the receipt. I don't know if that's possible with these ratchets or through Bunnings as it doesn't mention any warranty.

Repco also have some 108 tooth ratches with 20% off for auto club members at the moment, not as cheap as these though.

        1/4" $28
        3/8" $42
        1/2" $50

        • Definitely a factor, but I've found the gearwrench stuff (particularly their ratchet spanners) to be a step above.

The answer is clearly por que no los dos.

For what it's worth - I only own one gearwrench tool - a 1/2" Digital torque wrench I bought off amazon US a few years ago. Was using it the other day and something broke internally & the torque reading was all over the place.. Essentially junked the tool.
I emailed gearwrench australia, they told me to contact the retailer etc etc.
I forwarded the same query to Gearwrench USA - No response after a few days, and was a bit disappointed, but yesterday I received an email with a tracking number. They're UPS'ing me a replacement one free of charge, no questions asked.
That's pretty top notch service. Probably would've been nice to get a reply to my email, but still, I'll take a replacement.

  • Only bought a 1/4" one from Total Tools a week ago for $19 after using a discount code but would have preferred this one.

  • Got all 3, thanks OP

    • How much was the last one, the 1/2"? Was tossing up whether to grab the 2 box set with bits aswell.

  • I got the 3/8 socket set from total tools a couple weeks back. Going off the quality of that I went and bought the 1/2 and 1/4 here too. Very impressed with the quality especially at this price point

  • Not bad ratchets but may only suit those with existing socket sets in the corresponding sizes.

The Sidchrome deal from Sydney Tools was better overall I reckon.

Sidchrome are below par, bought one of their recent ratchet spanners broke within my 2nd use

      • Sidchrome are just rebranded tools from other manufacturers these days, so it's probably pretty hit-or-miss with that brand.
I remember one of their compact 1/4" ratchet sets was a rebranded Falcom (French made tools) set and it was pretty good.

    • +1

I figured that if people didn't already own sockets they could maybe use these as back scratchers or something.

    • +1

Indeed. The120 piece kit is also brilliant with ratchet spanners included.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/gearwrench-120-piece-drive-metri…

      • thanks! that's a great find

      • +5

I think the 111 piece is a little more complete albeit more costly.

        https://www.bunnings.com.au/gearwrench-111-piece-metric-sae-…

        • Just bought the 111 piece set. I've been thinking about it for ages and I thankfully saw this sale! Super happy!

        • Just wondering if you could shed some light on the difference between the two sets?

          • @bambadee: I remember looking at both sets in the store a while ago and the 111 piece set looked like it had more useful tools included. Two ratchets, more wrenches, more sockets etc.

I have an old cheapie socket set and I was looking for a good quality set to cover my needs. I think this one nails it.

        • +2

Man, that's less than half price compared to elsewhere.

Edit : Never mind. I can't come back from 6 point sockets. These are 12.

        • Gees- you are right! Great deal- and wobble heads look great

    • Which is better, these sets from Bunnings or the below?
      https://www.totaltools.com.au/199844-gearwrench-38-piece-1-4…

      • Do you want only 1/4 or only 3/8? Get the bunnings set.

Both sets, get the Total Tools set.

The Bunnings sets have more pieces in a size set though. Just get the set that fits your use-case best.

        • The TT set only comes with the 3/8 ratchet and then you get a 3/8 to 1/4 adaptor. Doesnt contain a 1/4 ratchet

    • +2

LOL damn it.. bought each size of the ratchets, then bought each of the other kits.
Oh well, set for life now.

    • +2

      "Good"? Ehhhh….. 12 point sockets aren't great.

However as far as starter/home sets go, these are half price, and the ratchets/etc will be fantastic.

      Good starter kit, sure.

      • +2

12 point is perfectly fine for everyday use. Unless a bolt is seriously stuck on you are unlikely to round a good condition bolt/nut with them. I had 12 point for most of my car work, and for any bolts that needed some serious strength I'd get a impact socket in that size, then you can really go to town on it.

        • A 6 point impact socket.

          • @Ademos: Yes of course, I don't think I've even seen a 12 point impact socket.

I'm just saying for general use, 12 point is perfectly fine.

  • Thanks OP picked up 1/4 and 3/8.

  • 1/2 is goneski!

    • Still available. Just search for it or maybe change your store

      • Yeah, got to add it to cart from suggestions but it wouldn't load the actual page.. 😅

I want all 3 but don't want to pay $39 for the 1/2 as I should have a decent 1/2 from the Sidchrome 60 piece set special from August that I haven't opened. But again, I think I want the set.. 🤣 But then I also have the ToolPro 1/2+3/8+1/2, 81 piece socket set that's only in 45T.

I think I just want a full 90T set.. 🤤 But I really do need a good set of spanners, Rachet if affordable.. 😅

Any deal on Warren and Brown toque wrenches?
    I’m after 20-100 Nm

    • +1

Amazon DE / UK stock Norbar Torque Wrenches and you can find them discounted from time to time, especially the TT range.
I prefer them over W&B to use (use to have their fixed value professional model for work) and worth checking out.
Not sure your use case, but in that range, it might be worth considering a 3/8” 10-50Nm and then a 1/2” for larger values. I find a use the 3/8” drive more and due to smaller drive is much easier to access all locations for use (using for motorbikes and cars)

      • I’ll be mainly using it for my car, most probably couple of times a year.

Mainly to clean intake hoses, intake manifold, EGR kind of stuff.

Used to work with hand tighten but recently figured out that approach can create troubles.

Most of related nuts actually requires torque between 9 nm and 27 nm.

You are right, some spaces are too tight and a bigger wrench will be hard to work with

Do you think 1/4 will be good enough for 9 to 27 nm or better to go with 3/8?

        • +1

I would recommended seeking a few people's input, as I am at least wise enough to know I am not an expert!
But i use these two the most
          - Norbar TTi20 4-20Nm 1/4"
          - Norbar 13841 10-50Nm 3/8"

The mains reasons also being I have a good selection of 1/4" & 3/8" sockets [inc thin wall, and deep sockets], plus my Hex and Torx sockets are all 1/4" & 3/8".

And then have a 1/2" I use for front/rear axle nuts when you really need the bugger set right!

        • Repco have 20% off torque wrenches (20% off most things actually) for auto club members at the moment and have a few high end brands, they used to sell Warren & Brown but not anymore unfortunately.

However you can just use a $40 torque wrench and calibrate it yourself with a luggage scale if you want to save money.

    • Go see a small tool shop like Qualitool in Geelong for this sort of thing. Good fair prices.

    • BTW, at my local Bunnos atm, they have Kincrome MTW80F, 3/8 Micrometer Torque Wrench 20-110nm for $127.99. No idea if that's a deal though.

      • Not a deal, it's $129 almost everywhere..

  • +2

Weird. When I posted this deal the pages I linked didn't have "CLEARANCE" on the product images.

    • Does the 1/2 link work for you?

I think the website is playing funnybuggers.

  • Unrelated, is there a way to search for clearence stuff at bunnings or do they keep it secret squirrel?

  • +1

I picked up 2 of the 111pc sets and one 40pc set this morning for my employees (I'm a builder).

Funny thing I realised today is that every single socket set I own was bought on clearance.

I still have the first socket set I bought which was SWG on clearance from Supercheap Auto and the wrenches are still as smooth and robust as the day I bought them 15 years ago. Many sockets have been broken though and replaced over the years.

A good socket set will last you for life and while you can circle jerk about finer details and specifications, the 111pc Gearwrench set would be more than enough for any weekend warrior or DIY tinkerer.

    • Agree! Bought a mechanics starter set about 15 years ago which included some decent quality socket sets, still use them nearly daily to this day (not a mechanic but always doing something around the house or cars)

  • +1

    Thanks OP,
    Great quality for the price.

Also side note. Sydney tools will sell the gearwrench black series ratcheting spanners for Black Friday around $80 mark. Normally $220. They had lots of boxes In readiness at Stafford QLD.

    • Black series or black editions are normally good value. But you gotta double check there not just metal painted black.

  • I bought a 1/2.

Does anyone know how the lifetime warranty works on these?

    • According to this is appears you have to purchase the lifetime warranty in Australia.

      https://www.gearwrench.com.au/support/warranty

Then damage cause by misuse, wear and tear isn't covered and it needs to be returned to the place of purchase by the original owner with proof of purchase.

  • For anyone seeking further review of this ratchet, project farm has released a youtube video of flexhead ratchets that includes the gear wrench 90T which gives an indication of the ratchet mechanism
