  • My budget direct went up about that much.
I switched to AAMI and now paying almost half….

    • +2

I was with Coles Insurance and my premium increased by 50% from $875 to $1275.

Got online quotes from nearly 10 providers and surprisingly AAMI was the cheapest at $800. Some of them wanted $2500 !

Anyway moral of the story is get quotes from every possible provider. You might be surprised.

      Loyalty definitely does not pay.

      2nd this.

I just did multiple comparisons online and moving from Budget to AAMI was 35% cheaper!

    • What are people so lazy these days?

Just get on the Insurance comparison sites and do your own research OP!

      • Just get on the Insurance comparison sites

They don't include all your options.

They only include whoever pays them a referral fee.

        • I bed to differ my friend
If you had ever bothered to check, they include plenty of options and better, more accurate options than what OP or anyone gets here.
The fact is that most insurance companies need to be there or miss out on a huge chuck of business.
But the answer to your concern is to go to more than one comparison site.

And furthermore, OP should start with a comparison site FIRST
Then maybe come here and check with peoples experience with the chosen insurer.

I bed to differ my friend

            You bed to differ???

            Certainly is different…

You need to do the search yourself.

Depends on age, gender, address, car, insurance history, colour of underwear etc. etc…

    • +1

LPT - don't select "brown" as your underwear colour

mine went from $1200 renewel last year to $2100 this year and this is only a 3 year old car

    • Yep seems about average
Just got my renewal notice for 3rd party fire & theft with RAC

2011 Accord Euro, 15k kms/yr, no claims/at fault accidents ever, been with RAC for 6 years.
Last year premium: $464.01 (10k agreed value)
This year premium: $556.95 (9.45k agreed value) (+20%)

as an under 25 yo male im surprised they dont change me more

    • AAMI for my 2020 Outlander went up 30%, and other insurers are about the same.

      • Worth it though. You take care of the Outlander and the Outlander will take care of you

        • take care of the Outlander and the Outlander will take care of you

          That sounds Outlandish

Get a new quote from AAMI - every year.

What I do - Get a new quote for home insurance from AAMI every year. At the end of the sign-up process for home insurance you get one time link that says if you sign up for car insurance you get an additional 20% of car insurance. The 20% is an actual 20% off a fairly cheap quote, not a fake 20% of RRP discount.

Online system can't tell even when the quote is for the same rego / address.

    • Do you then cancel your previous insurance and renew via online with the new quote?

      • You just dont pay the old insurance and it lapses - then yes pay for the new one

  • I was with RACV they increased my Premium like ~30% (full comp cover ~$1750 - car value is around 22k)

funny enough i switched to AAMI which was cheaper then all other providers (including budget) - i paid just over 1k for full comp

I think Insurance companies charge you for loyalty….i have been with RACV for my car for 5 years never made a claim but my premiums have kept rising and i kept paying it - this rise broke the camels back

    • +1

I was similar, been with RACV for years, then a large increase this year, so switched to AAMI for both cars.

    • Yeah my racv had gone up almost exactly 20% this year, some others quoted another 30% on top of that but budget quoted about 10% less.

No claims for 5 years, feels wrong maybe I need to find something to claim for!

sounds about right, they're all price gouging. I mean, going up due to inflation.

    Every 12 months same story…

If you quote your car insurance on their website that's always (for me) significantly cheaper than the renewal premium, and they also offer $50 discount to complete that online. Then you just complete as a new insurance.

Also, if your address is not found in their system and you have to enter manually, that's more expensive for some reason.

I used to move from AAMI to Youi and RACV, but has managed to stay with AAMI for three years now with no increase by creating a new quote.

RACV has been more than double. Haven't checked Youi anymore because I don't like talking to them and finishing the process over the phone, but I know it's more expensive.

Not the same old story. There's been a dynamic shift the last couple of years, especially regarding the low end of the market. Used to be you could get basic third party for two or three hundred. Now it's hard to get it for less than 5.

In my case, the insurance I have is cheaper than what can be obtained as a new customer. I'm with aami too

      • I mean invariably we should be checking the options every 12 months, particularly if price goes up.

I've never renewed my car insurance for the renewal price.

  • auspost car insurance. -just posted a deal

  • Check out CommInsure. Been with with them for about 5 years now for cars and house. Rates seem competitive and easy claim process.

with some of the stories you read on here about issues claiming with 'el-cheapo' insurance its not worth the heartache

but nice to know, been thinking of a cheap corolla as a runabout

Count ourselves lucky we're still working

  • My renewal also went up. Called them to ask what better price they can provide then get them to email the better price

Always seem to get close to previous years price (800ish)

  • What suburb do you live in?

  • +1

Given the value of your car its probably borderline whether its worth getting full comp, better off with just third party which should be around $500 a year.

Got my AAMI insurance renewal email this morning. It's gone up 38.1% for my 2006 Mazda 3.

    Ridiculous.

  • Only a 20% increase? Count yourself lucky 😂

I'm with Suncorp and has gone up 56%
$1151 to $1797 renewal due next month.

    Haven't changed anything, no claims,

  • My car insurance went up less than 1% (which surprised the hell out of me) with Shannons, but the home and contents went up about 20%.

It's ok though, we will just raise interest rates again, that will solve the problem.

  • Go with Bingle. Part of Suncorp but it's very competitively priced. Apart from Indian call center (they do have Australian call center but the only time I could get through to the Australian team was 9am on the dot), and online claim, all their staff are Suncorp employees (based on the email addressed I've liaised with).

Had a not-at-fault claim with no excess paid this May and my renewal was cheaper than last year. Crazy

  • This is literally the business model of insurers. Other then Shannons I don't think I've ever just 'paid a renewal' It's cheaper to switch insurers every year 99% of the time. Or even just get a new policy with the same insurer and don't renew the old one.
