MEGAPOST

The upside with all the cricket at night recently is I can spend ages looking at flight routes. The downside is it takes forever to put together. But anyway…

These flights are one way, and can get similar prices on the way back, just too many combinations to process and display, the below has taken hours as it is. If flying return, try searching for two one way tickets and a return as it can be cheaper.

Flights are either direct or via Singapore.

I've included some examples, but there's a character limit on ozb, so see the full post, with every date, tons of routes and prices found for those dates here.

Airline: Scoot
Baggage: 10kg carry on (most airlines are 7kg)
Planes: Mostly Boeing 787 Dreamliners
Dates: Each route has 3 periods of dates on sale, so check below to see which might work for you.

    The UX is so cooked

    Nothing for Adelaide always

    • +3

Scoot only flies to Perth, Sydney and Melbourne :/

Unless you specifically want a one way fare at a low price, I don't see that much point in paying almost $800 to fly to Tokyo from SYD/MEL via singapore on a budget airline, where even now you can get Vietnam Airlines for just over $100 more and get full service with baggage and food. Even I booked a flight with Qantas direct from Sydney to Haneda for around $1000 return.

Flights to South East Asia look better from SYD/MEL, but wouldn't do Northern Asia from SYD/MEL as I can't see the value. Perth does probably work out better to North Asia.

    • right, i paid this* january $910 during a sale for return syd to haneda with singapore airlines

    • Worth paying extra just to fly to Haneda.

      • Part of the problem here, is by travelling via Singapore, you almost add another 4 hours minimum to your trip which will take more of a toll on you. You don't get any food and drink, so you don't save as much as the ticket price suggests.

I think budget long haul also tend to work best point to point as on time performance is usually always worse the full service carriers and they don't usually look after delayed passengers well. Adding extra long legs with less frequent service is asking for trouble.

Think using scoot for North Asia via East cost should really only be used if you essentially plan to travel back via a different airport /airline (ie ICN & Tway) as one way fares are still something that LCCs do well compared to full service airlines.

  • I'm going bonkers figuring this out… Trying for one way and return SYD > SIN around 9th July and get double those prices at best. Looked on BTF and direct on Scoot. Can you suggest what I'm overlooking? Sorry, new at this and find it frustrating. Not as frustrating as Starc trying to not bowl wides…

As far as I can tell it just doesn't work, either beatthatflight or the third party sites are a scam, or both. I can never see the prices listed here, and the cost of addons like luggage is ridiculous, like $150 per leg for a 20kg bag. I wouldn't waste your time, just book direct with Scoot when they have a sale.

      • +1

Seems a bit ruff to say BTF is a scam. The airlines/airports themselves I can understand are scum

        • +1

I didn't say it was a scam, I said I can't match the prices. Isn't that what you found too? And I've seen many other members post the same.

Haven't seen any reasonable explanation as to why the prices change when you click through from BTF to the other sites. Seems like there is certainly a scam somewhere.

Happy to hear from anyone who has sucessfully booked and flown on these rates.

Like I said in the other comment, Scoot doesn't do the same price every day of their sale periods. That's why I list the tables, to try and identify when Scoot has their listed cheap dates.

Beat That Flight can't really be a scam - I don't sell anything, just refer (and have affiliates). If the end product isn't there, and nobody buys anything, I don't get squat.

The biggest problem with affiliates in air travel though is that prices change SO much from day to day, route to route, and even people sitting next to each other on the same flight likely paid a different price to each other.

And the OTAs (online travel agencies) I link to - they're generally cheaper than the airline ,but make their money on the upsells - luggage, insurance, charges to change say, your name or passport number, txt updates etc. So the 'unexpected' charges can be frustrating. But hey, I've done international travel with just carry-on many times, so it'd work for me, and if not for you, all good, book direct, although Scoot also charges quite a bit for baggage :/

https://www.beatthatflight.com.au/index.php/2023/11/07/syd-m… - scroll down to the tables of prices. You can see that Scoot has cheap fares, but not on every date. July 9th, for example, as you say, is more expensive. However, July 20th drops down to $220. Sadly they don't have the low low prices on every single day in the sale period, which is why I build the tables to find them. Hope that helps!

      • Perfect - love them tables

  • +6

One way is cheap I have to say, but the return are damn expensive

  • The upside with all the cricket at night recently is I can spend ages looking at flight routes.

Omg same. I'm getting so many chores done late at night myself with the cricket on in the background.

    • +2

Absolutely. I'm doing my book-keeping now while Afghanistan bat :D

      • While Oz batters can't keep their bats down against Afghan..

Maxwell sure took the load on his shoulders tho! Wow!

  • Brisbane!

    • Scoot doesn't fly to Brisbane :/

      • Today I learned Scoot no longer flies out of Gold Coast 😞

        • No wonder I saw Scoot before.

      • :/

  • Can't find any of these flights SYD > SGN around March 8th

    • did you click through to see the table that lists all the dates and prices? Scoot doesn't offer the same price on every date in the periods listed, that's why I build the tables - to help you find them there.

      • 6th March, table shows $221, cheapest is vietjet at 223 and scoot at 256

        • +1

          Hmm. Possible options:
          - Prices do fluctuate a little during the day/night
          - Scoot's tickets at that price may have sold out in that period (I've been building this since last night)
          - It's also possible I misread those prices as Scoot when it was Vietjet late last night

If it's the latter, apologies, but at least that price is still basically available, if on a different airline (although I concede I'd prefer Scoot over Vietjet, even if they're both LCCs)

  • I'm guessing there may be cheaper prices 3 months out?

  • Thus for Syd to Bali, it still s to transit to Singapore first not direct?

    • I check the trip and it's indeed to Singapore first then to Bali, a 6 hours flight of direct to become 24 hours to save $50, Hmmm which one should I choose, decision decision.

  • Did anyone else google Amritsar?

  • There are pretty much no cheap returns at all to go with these outbound flights unfortunately. Trying to do a Thailand trip under $600 and it's just not a thing.

Need a proper Jetstar sale to come along someday very soon….
