Lunch sorted for the race today. Cheers OP

Wonder how many horses will be beat to death today…

  • -1

they make burgers out of the horses???!!

    • -1

The horses are processed in the same facilities as cattle.
Producing pet food and sometimes contamination of horse dna winds up in snags and mince

    • +1

Yes, but not in Australia 🦘

  • +5

yay the latest edition of the weekly ozbargain political/social discourse post has arrived

OzBargain mods - New filter option idea listed above from @lachlantula.

  • Nup to the cup*

*dependant on offered free piss and nibbles

Veganism is a good reason to say no to today but silly if they sell beef burgers too.

    • +5

They don't, they are plant based.

      • +2

        Ok good, that makes sense👍.
        Shame no restaurants around here.

    • -4

Veganism is a good reason to say no to today but silly if they sell beef burgers too.

What if they were a car company? Or adult toy makers? The possibilities to "what if" are endless!

      • +4

        Irrelevant. look up the definition.

Wasting all my negs on pizza guy

        • -3

Here, you'll need another neg, if that's a habit, but what's exactly irrelevant, again?

Because to me, calling out a plant-based establishment for using meat is pretty irrelevant. Not being bothered checking and accussing "just in case" seems not cool. But hey, it's nutritious feed to all the trolls that came here to pretend they feel threathened by some vegan joint.

          Nup to the cup!

          • +4

@pizzaguy: Just sounded like the usual BS and people making excuses for their choices by mentioning irrelevant things such as you can't use a car. Just say you like the taste of meat (people like to be told good things about their bad habits, and just bogan attitudes).

Look up a few definitions, the point is it's as 'practically as possible'.

Hard to tell if you are plant based or not but nothing wrong with those burgers and doing your bit, healthier and more cruelty free (may still be junk food but typically lower in saturated fat and sodium etc).

            • -1

@G-rig: Sorry, I don't get it and I see you get +1s, so defs I must be in some funny circle of misunderstanding.

So you suggested Soul Burger is silly for promoting veganism but selling beef - no matter what was your intention, it came out confusing and straight not true.

I made a sarcastic comment (mentioning random things) to play down your false argumentation against Soul Burger.

You called something irrelevant and then you're still asking me to look up some definitions. Oh well. But yeah, I eat plant-based stuff and I'm all for it.

              • +1

@pizzaguy: Ha my bad, I assumed soul burger was a normal burger restaurant (we don't have it here. Looks like Sydney only) so that's where the confusion started sorry.

Was just expecting the usual people to chime in, and even if it's cheaper or free you can't convince the general population to even try alternatives if it doesn't align with their tradition fallacy or manliness :).

  • Will they be showing the big race in store?

  • -2

Shhh, don't mention the shooting of Brumby's from helicopters that has just started in the kosciuszko national park. This is far more important. 🙄

    • -5

      Excuse me, who ordered whataboutism?

    • +6

They're an introduced pest. They've killed a lot in alpine areas by wreaking havoc on the native ecosystem. They should not exist. Any rational environmentalist is in support of the cull.

      • Surely there's a better way to reduce numbers. Are you in favour of the helicopter method, where an effective "Kill shot" is impossible?

        • Yes. That's taxpayer money being spent.

Perhaps you'd rather reallocate health or welfare money to it, so the vulnerable (people) suffer in waiting.

Or better yet, let's get the job seeker gang out there doing the work of killing horses at point blank range.

          • @Assburg: It's more ideology driven rather than budgetary.

          • +1

            @Assburg:

Or better yet, let's get the job seeker gang out there doing the work of killing horses at point blank range.

Now that sounds like an event we could place bets on

        • What's the better way?

    • Guess I must've missed the #BrumbySniping hashtag

  • +3

I'm jealous. Their burgers are amazing.

  • -4

Profiting from a social cause, they would make it free if they meant it

    • -3

Yeah, they'd pay people and establish worldwide peace if they really cared.

  • +2

How can they call it chilli beef if they're vegan

  • +3

Is Horse back on the meat menu?

  • In 2021, Australia exported $1.41M in Horse Meat.
In 2021, Australia imported $82k in Horse Meat, mainly from Italy.

But yes, Melbourne Cup is the worst thing to happen to horses in Australia

    • Mortadella. Surely

      • Chevaline - just horse meat (such as deer is called venison)

A delicacy in many countries, particularly Japan

    • -1

Whataboutism is just flowing today. So if there was a public display of people riding pigs to death while lovely dressed, completely pissed audience cheers to it, you're going to get worked up and point out that it doesn't matter, because pigs are getting slaughtered anyway?

I sometimes envy people and their uncomplicated takes on society.

      • It’s hypocritical to criticise the Melbourne Cup and not the literally 22,000+ races that occur throughout the year

It’s ironic to ignore things you’re not aware of, such as the Australian horse meat industry, yet get on your high horse about one race and ignore the rest

        • It's so unfair to assume a person is not critical about all the other stuff that you mention, only because of the current narrow contenxt here.

You now seem to be a person who is going to accuse a local community activitst of not fighting the world's corruption.

        • Im sure a lot of people don't support those either but they arent flat out celebrating are they (enough to warrant a public holiday too)

        • +2

Well mate, the Melbourne cup's the most mainstream race and it's filters into workplaces and general society. Every other race wouldn't concern most people anyway unless they were punters.

Gambling is bad enough without cruelty and no one should support it. Much less of a big deal anyway these days..

I'm not against drinking or UFC.

        • Hold up, we have a horse meat holiday?

      • So if there was a public display of people riding pigs to death while lovely dressed

Excuse me, who ordered a ridiculous hypothetical using purposefully misleading and inflammatory language?

        • That ironic tone from the first comment was inviting enough (see "But yes, Melbourne Cup is the worst thing to happen to horses in Australia"). Happy to answer all your laboured tries at this deal, situation.

          So, what's misleading, again?

        • +1

          I ordered the Chavaline

  • Sweet, do this today, then go back to normal tomorrow.

  • +1

Bring on horse meat. Wild horses are not productive and destroy native bushland.

    • Tough af, and would be expensive..
No different to killing a chicken, cat or dog though.

  • Rice burger?

Why bother? Just have a bowl of rice. Insanely cheaper too.

    • +1

Would still be healthier than bread but yeah just get a burger, or have a rice dish. Sounds like comparing eating out vs cooking rice at home ha.
