  • Why would I want this over a $30 adapter that connects to my phone via bluetooth?

    • +2

      Bidirectional for a start……..

      • Something like the Torque app paired with a $2 OBD2 scanner is also bi-directional and can clear fault codes, reset services etc etc

        • +3

Pretty limited in what codes those cheap bluetooth OBD2 scanners can detect. My dash was lit up like a xmas tree and Torque showed zero codes. This unit will do a much more in depth scan.

    • +1

A lot of cars come with built in tests and/or procedures during service (like actuating gearbox….actuators) to allow to fully flush fluids etc. A simple reader often can't test/detect/do that.

  • +2

Reviews are not too bad, especially working with BMW. Time to buy a M5 now.

    Support American Cars+European Cars+Asian Cars

    That's right, no Australian cars!
Be ware because this is just another imported gadget that you won't be able to return.
I'll take this gadget in consideration only if they clearly state what specific car brand and model/year is compatible to.

    • +1

Not really many Australian cars though are there? Also this "Gadget" would be in a lot of workshops….

        • +3

Actually I think you'd find most mechanics have MULTIPLE scan tools as each brand has there own strengths and weaknesses.

Anyway if it's not for you because you need Holden that's fine but don't go rubbishing the product simply because of that. For some people it's perfect for what they need and at a very good price.

            @Homerlovesbeer: As I already said:

Support American Cars+European Cars+Asian Cars = no Australian cars

You're the only one here trolling and:

            don't go rubbishing

Indeed you're the only one here rubbishing.
And we all know that on Ozbargain there are too many shockpuppets, only two up votes and it says all about your spear heading for this gadget which is not compliant for Australia!

              @billadm:

              That's right, no Australian cars!

So ? Most Australians don't own Australian cars.

Be ware because this is just another imported gadget that you won't be able to return.

Incorrect, the seller is listing it as an eBay Plus item.

so they only have one tool good for all cars sold in Australia.

Nope, there is no tool that offers full functionality for all brands.

Support American Cars+European Cars+Asian Cars = no Australian cars

So ? Most Australians don't own Australian cars.

You're the only one here trolling

              This is entirely untrue.

Indeed you're the only one here rubbishing.

And we all know that on Ozbargain there are too many shockpuppets, only two up votes and it says all about your spear heading for this gadget

None of that says anything of the sort - you were rightly called out for rubbishing the product without any good reason.

which is not compliant for Australia!

There's no such thing as a "compliant for Australia" scan tool.

        • +2

Which mechanic and which scantool? Even my SnapOn wont cover all cars

My mate whos a fully qualified mechanic has at least 3 to cover the range.

Luxury models like Bently for example are tough to 'talk to'.

    • +1

Dont worry, we havent had Australian cars in YEARS; in fact I dont think the last truly Australian car was even obd2 yet.

  • +2

I have the NT809 which is pretty much this with all of the vehicle manufacturers unlocked.

It works pretty well most of the time, but freezes opening modules occasionally and has no Holden database.

The big selling point of this is the bi-directional scanning, but on the 30+ cars I've used it on only a couple of them have actually been supported for the service procedures.

Check the vehicle compatibility very carefully before buying one of these, otherwise it's just an overpriced OBD2 scanner.

  • No peugeot? Ok back to Torque

    • +2

      Check #23.

      • +1

        Oh I am blind, thanks

  • +1

Thanks, bought one for my #22 Samsung.

    TO NOTE

You're SOL if you own a Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Lamboghini or Daewoo..

  • This seems like an appropriate OZB forum post to ask:

What recommendation of device + app (iOS or PC) for a VW Golf MK 6 to remove error codes* for lowest cost, easiest convenience?

    I honestly can’t think of why I’d pay $100+ for a one-time or few-time effort :(

*remove check for rear camera error; rear lights replaced by LED error

    • If it's a one off go to a VW specialist, if it's ongoing just buy this.
