    That's the lowest price? 🤯

Lowest Amazon price. It has been cheaper elsewhere.

Specs, build quality, and after market support for an equivalent price then.

          Go on

Not the one to dwell in the past but the $3,999 for the 16" M1 Max 64TB 4TB SSD couple of months ago was a great deal! Should've jumped on that.

Would have absolutely damaged it had you have done so.

Feels like someone made the same joke on one of the previous MacBook deal comments

        • +4

Seldom there are original jokes here. I may have even been the perp. The repeated memes are the best ones. Even reading "thanks op bought 12 (Tesla's)' still breaks a smile on my face under the right circumstances. 🤣😂

@seamonkey: I kind of regretted NOT buying that 16in MBP. I ended up getting the 14in which is ALMOST as good.

…but now seeing the market for the "large laptops", it seems like Apple doesn't really have the edge anymore!

They will continue to dominate with the M3 MBA and the MBP 14in, because they're a bit faster/sustained whilst offering MUCH better battery life. We will have to see Qualcomm's efforts, with their Oryon Chipsets. It looks promising hardware-wise but is probably handicapped software-wise. So a wash. Whereas at the higher end of the market, with 16in models, there's a lot more room for cooling and battery so x86 gets to catch up. AMD's current offerings are decent, and they're just about to unveil their next-generation lineup. Meanwhile there's Nvidia's current GPU are great from an efficiency standpoint.

So the 14in MBP M1 Max will remain relevant for longer (2021-2027), whereas the 16in MBP M1 Max (whilst superior) will see alternatives crop up and make that specific laptop age (2021-2025) quicker. That's what my 8ball says anyways.

@Kangal: Interesting comment. One thing I love about my Max (16) is that it's dead silent, almost all the time. Having struggled for the last few years on this, all I can say is silence is golden! I sometimes wonder if I'd have been better with the 14.

I wish I bought that one. M1 Max is probably weaker than M3 Pro, but all dat ram and SSD would have made it all worth it.

      • The M1 Max is a bit better than the M3 Pro.
Apple has done great with the M1 lineup, but they've been coasting on their initial successes.

        rant:
I've been waiting for the A17/M3 to debut, because we're long overdue for a microarchitectural upgrade AND it comes with a full-node jump to TSMC-3nm. But what we were expecting of a +50% increase in performance/efficiency has turned out to be instead a +10% increase. It may be the case that Apple has lost key expertise for designing chips, TSMC is having trouble with their yields, and all that combined with the management who want to drip-feed the improvements over multiple device iterations all leads to here.

For instance, Apple changes next to nothing for the Late-2024 chipsets A18-Pro and M3 for the iPhone Pro and iPad Pro… and they merely use the fixed/proper TSMC-3nm node to give themselves a +10% performance uplift, at -20% power draw. Then in Mid-2025 they introduce the M4 Pro/Max/Ultra lineup with similar uplift. Then Apple implements some changes to other aspects like GPU and NPU for the next iteration. Then they likely do a microarchitectural upgrade. Then they're back to milking the next full-node jump. We need the other companies to keep Apple on their toes, and vice versa.

Spoken by someone that has no clue what they are saying. Macs are used in many specialised fields including science, audio and the print industry that PCs just can’t compete. Right tool for the job, it’s not about think you’re better than others.

      • Can't edit as many videos on cocaine as I can on a MacBook Pro

        • Do both at the same time though!

…. And you’ll end up with badly edited videos, I suppose

      • I think you already did, buddy.

      • They hated you because you spoke the truth.

        • +1

There's no truth to it. If someone simply wants the Apple brand, they would just buy an M1 MacBook Air. Which was objectively the best value laptop at that price range for years. As for this laptop, people are also buying it because it's objectively the best, not for the brand. Thaal speaks no truth and neither do you now.

          • @Nillionaire: Spoken like a true Apple fanboy. Naturally you have no understanding of what "best value" is.

  • +1

I remember I bought Apple refurbished about a year ago with the same spec for $4000ish, just for your reference

  • 2 left in stock

    • Should be 10 to qualify as a front page deal.

    Ridiculous.

I got the last 13 inch pro macbook intel version for $1800 when it came out. Companies add newer tech for the same price eg 13 inches to 14 inches due to the reduction in costs. Apple add another $1000 just if you want usb c

    • +4

There were years worth of rumours about Apple transitioning to ARM, you could have waited if you wanted the latest and greatest. And M1 proved it had years of staying power in it.

    • +1

so let me get you straight:

a few years ago, you purchased (what i assume was) the base model or near enough of a macbook pro based on architecture that was a few years old at the time. you paid $1,800.

now, are commenting on a deal for a macbook pro that is ~2 years old and is one of the top specs (and the larger 16" model) of an all-new architecture that (even in its base model) is a step change over the previous intel architecture. the deal is shown at slightly under double the price paid for your intel macbook pro ($3,500).

you conclude that this is "ridiculous".

even if we assume that you intel mac was the top spec in all regards, the m1 max generally benchmarks at around double its performance. let's keep that in mind, along with the fact that a) this deal is probably a much higher spec than yours, b) there's been probably three years of inflation since you paid for yours, c) there are other improvements such as storage, display, keyboard etc… in what way is the price for this laptop "ridiculous" compared to your intel macbook?

    • +1

Comparing your intel device from a different decade to an M series device is wild and ignorant asf.

    what a rip off.

my father in law has a 13inch Macbook air 10 years ago.
He's still using it………since not even Chrome is supported on it anymore
Getting this deal could mean he'll use it for the next 20 yrs

  • -1

Apple has their silly market, let them be 🤣

  • +2

This deal was the killer, if I hadn't already have one already I would have jumped on that deal.

    • good find! i've got the tab open but i'm tossing up whether i should pull the trigger or not. i've got the first m1 air. it mostly does the job for me but this big fella would surely futureproof me for a good five years or more…

without getting into use case, any thoughts on that?
