This used to cost a lot of $$$. According to Chollometro this was €79 per year don't know how much it was here in Australia. But now it's $0 for lifetime.

Anyway it's a nice freebie for people that have a BMW.

Anyway it's a nice freebie for people that have a BMW

Correction: who have a high yield investment

    • -1

I guess no high yield investment for me. 😄

    • +3

Nah only works for AMG mercs and when you work in accounting

    • +8

I don't have a high yield investment, but in true OzBargain fashion, I feel like I should buy a BMW just to take advantage of this deal.

      • +1

Buy 12. That's the going amount.

    • +3

As a former BMW owner they are the exact opposite of a high yield investment.

      • +1

When they say HYI, they mean for the parts/service departments.

      • Obviously didn't own a current model under warranty

        • Lol.

Just with their stupid runflat tyre requirement with mismatched front and rear sizes on a powerful RWD car they just murder tyres which are then painfully expensive to replace.

BMW covers certain things and I had fixed price servicing, but they still look to nickel and dime you with stupid things like map updates for the inbuilt satnav. The internet is also rife with lengthy discussions about obvious design/manufacturing problems being treated on a case by case basis by BMW and people having to fight them for them to honour their warranty obligations.

At one point I effectively needed a new lightbulb for a rear brake assembly, and this apparently meant that BMW had to order an entire new assembly FROM GERMANY to fix this issue.

The car itself deflates at a dramatic rate, too. Don't think their warranty covers that.

I now drive a VW (Golf R Wagon) and it is a better car in every possible way - clearly built better, drives better, normal tyres, etc etc etc. Would never go back.

    • That yield curve just increased even more.

  • +41

Oh wow this is unbelievable. I just got an f80 m3 and was considering signing up for this yesterday. Then all of a sudden it comes on ozbargain. Thanks OP!

This has improved the yield of my investment far more than any potential mate would.

    • +7

What are the odds?!? Good timing.

      • +19

I never see any bmw posts on here except for those from westpac interns. I can't believe my luck!

        • +8

There’s a lot of confusion around here but Mercedes have the high yield investments all wrapped up with Westpac graduates.

Maybe Shopback should get involved too…

  • +3

Seems to already be activated for unlimited duration for me, but definitely worth checking.

    • +1

      Same

    • +2

Same with me, the only extra service that would be handy is real time traffic info but they want $115 a year for that.

      • +3

You can actually unlock almost anything or modify almost anything via E-Sys (for free) or BimmerUtility. PSA: Didn't hear it from me 😂

        • can you ask your friend if RTTI can be coded?

          • @WT: Should be, just message them to confirm. I'm not affiliated with BimmerUtility.

      • Yes this is the one I want the real time traffic

      • I find the real traffic feature rubbish. Waze is much better. Car satnav is just my backup

  • +2

Thanks a OP. I lost this subscription after 3 year and couldn't be bothered to pay for it. Good timing and thanks again.

    • Same. Miss being able to phone someone to put your address into the sat nav.

      • I’m hungover so maybe I’m missing something, can you explain this to me like I’m five?

    • How do u use the 3d view on car? Do they use the 360’ camera that used for reversing? Can’t seems to find that feature in my app

      • The 3D view is in the BMW app, but only comes up if you are subscribed to this feature (now free, per this post). So you may still need to subscribe to it, even it’s now a no-cost option.
Yes, they use the cameras used by the car for parking/assistance.
My car was sold and picked up yesterday and the next car is one week away, so cannot provide detailed instructions for now.

      • same. mrs had this offer already activated but there is no 3d viewer in the app even though the car has it when parking

    • same here

  • +37

thanks, gonna grab a BMW today

    • +2

While you are there, buy me one too. I will pay back in OZB deals 😄

    • +2

Don’t forget cashback with SB/CR too!

    • +1

Share the receipt, so I can pricematch.

  • +4

Isn't that always free??? I've been using BMW connected for like 7 years …

    • +2

It was free then they started charging for it…and now it's free! (Again).

      • Ah… Make sense!

        • Only if they can still ransom the heated seats already installed in your (late model) BMW!

      • +1

Really feeling the good/bad/goodwill from BMW!

        • +2

For those that haven't yet signed over their data and paid for our magic peanuts, here they are for free!

But no, we're not ever going to pay for your dataprivacy; it has no value at all, right?

      • they started charging for it

You will own nothing and be happy!

    • +3

Yes, this has always been free & included by default… this is a nothing post tbh, and as the great Donald J Trump would say, it's fake news 😕 (ps been using it for 10 years & counting…)

    • Most times you might get a 3 year subscription with the new car, then have to renew. However, BMW have consolidated their multiple option offerings and made quite a few of them free now. Airplay is now free for life, and based on this post Remote 3D is also free now.

    • It wasn't free it is normally included due to a BMW dealer helping you out. He gave it to us when we bought ours as complimentary

  • +1

Thanks for the post, Just tried signing up and my expired connected Drive was already renewed for “Unlimited Term”
Had to download the new My BMW app as the old “BMW Remote” app wasn’t working anymore.

  • Does it also include automatic repossession if you don't pay your repayments / bills on time? lol.

    • No finance here mate! Pure cesh.

      • +2

Ahhh the classic neg votes for someone who doesn't use financing.

        • +1

I'm surprised I got negged. I would have thought on a site like ozb that cash would have been the preferred option.

          • +1

@Lets Make Sandwiches: I'm not. I got negged for buying a phone outright over a plan lol. What about a car!? Come on man, clearly the right thing to do is take a massive loan and pay interest to corpos 😂

  • +4

200 clicks in 30 min, lots of BMW users here. No more Camry??

  • +1

Good timing mine expired last month.

    Thanks OP.

  • +3

    Back peddle after subscription backlash.

  • +5

Is there a free membership for indicator users too?

  • +3

    Will this fix their indecators?

  • +1

"Convenient remote control using your smartphone or via the BMW call center"

Don't piss a BMW call center person :) As most of the call center are overseas, I wonder how Privacy intrusive this is.

    • +1

exactly, random person/corporation can be watching/listening/recording all your actions (including deeply personal), I hope we never see the day when drivers getting fines due to a corp sharing telemetry with authorities regarding you slightly breaching a speed limit somewhere on remote road or other similar things

      • +2

That's exactly what will happen eventually. I know someone who works high up in EU transport and they are already looking at pilot study as we speak. It’s money saving for authorities as they don’t have to invest in speed/red light cameras as your car will be relaying continuous your speed back to central hub. They are also looking at regulating the speed at accident and work zone, where you cannot accelerate beyond the set speed limit during. Safety/freedom you have no choice in the future.

        • +2

          There will be examples
          to show humans are error-prone,
          so legislation will be introduced
          to prevent human control
          and transfer decision-making to machines.
          Insurance companies will love this,
because of the risk of being human
          will be removed.

          • +1

@whyisave: Humans who are prone to make errors and then learn not to make those errors again makes life interesting/colourful.
As we(humans) are automating our life in every aspect and embracing our new AI overloads in exponential fashion, we are forgetting that our life is slowing becoming monochrome (error free). So in the near future we eventually will loose the ability to learn anything. I am certain humans will be made redundant by the end of this century.

    • You only have to read the sale contract of your new car to find out. Amazing that people are't walking out of the showrooms. But then again, everyone's under Zuck's Spell so they think correctly think they're xcrewed anyhow.

But there are many, many, Devils…

    • Don't piss a BMW call center person :) As most of the call center are overseas, I wonder how Privacy intrusive this is.

Scam calls (from India) pretending to be from the BMW call centre incoming!

    • You maybe right, but they probably also have (or had until last year) local call centres. I’ve used them a few times and always managed to speak to a local person.

    • I wonder how the call centre validates it's really you before unlocking the door? Ask you to confirm the rego on the car?

  • Any deal for a BMW car?

    • Yeah, if you buy one now you won't have to use your indicators ever again. LEDs for life.

  • Thnaks OP

  • +4

Can’t believe traditional car makers charge extra for such features. Glad I bought a Tesla

    • +7

So true, you can get Full Self Driving, something that promises so much and delivers so little, for only a a couple of factors of magnitude more :-)

      • Haha Tesla have already failed at Self driving. Software and hardware have been beta since 2015.

        • I'm sure the next update will be the final version that makes it fully functional ;-)

          • @team teri: There's 2 things I genuinely miss, driving an EV that's not Tesla: OTA updates and belonging to a cult.

          • @team teri: The next update will be tomorrow and a fleet of robo taxis will arrive the day after. Meanwhile Tesla Highland M3 has parking 'sensors' worse than my 2011 Honda CRV.

  • Oh mine, hope this gonna work on my 90s bimmer… I guess not

    • +2

      @Cheryhello: I envy your 90's bimmer as it's Off Grid, no one can hack/track you :) :)

      • And alongside commercial influence, why the dumb Oz govs make it so difficult to convert old cars to have electric powertrains.

    • Only option you can get is the reliability package which was free because you brought e30 series…..

  • +15

I was looking at BMW AU site, I am really shocked to see the prices BMW charge for that should be a part of stock car.

    1. Parking assistant $29/month
    2. Adaptive M Suspension $29/month
    3. Drive record $19/month
    4. Remote Engine start $29/month
    5. Iconic sound sport $220/Unlimited
    6. Realtime traffic $58/ 6 months
    7. USB map update $89/year
    8. High Beam Assist $259/ Unlimited
    9. Remote services $0/Unlimited
    10. Apple Car Play preparation $450/ Unlimited
    11. Android Play $0/ Unlimited ***

*** not listed on BMW website, I added it on purpose as you don’t need preparation for Android users, plug and play. Apple suckers (hope fully I have not offended apple users)

My Audi came with most of the above features (apart from map update/traffic update: which I negotiated to be included in my 5yrs service schedule whilst purchasing the car) on the technology package which I paid $800(RRP $1.5K).

It is funny to see BMW charging for High Beam Assist, it’s standard on most Japanese cars (Toyota, Honda, Subaru & Mazda)

    Glad I don't own BMW

    • +2

Damn, high beam assist should be standard just for safety reasons. Even on Toyota Yaris this kind of thing is standard.

    • BMW Connect Drive

      • Maybe it is better termed Disconnected Drive, if you don't pay….

But therein lies the question: When enabled, can BMW, its third parties, partners, and regulatory stakeholders, law enforcement, local library, state police, organised crime, bikies, malicious hackers*:

Shut down your car on the FreewwayMotorway and cause death by the B-double overtaking the slower semi-trailer, behind you?

Note: * Left the least likely attacker in the list till last ;-)

    • +1

as long as people let auto manufactures get away with such things by still buying those cars they will be doing it and adding more subscriptions (driver's door has been opened/closed more that 30 times per month pay for subscription to allow more) geeeez

    • +6

Adaptive Suspension is a subscription?? What a joke lol.

    • this is lol
