There are two ways coins can be redeemed: Transfers of coins to Coinbase which is free, where coins can be converted to AUD.

The alternative option is a cash-out service, in which Shping acts on behalf of its users by transferring their coins to a cryptocurrency exchange. This process involves trading Shping Coin for USDC (a stablecoin) and subsequently converting USDC to AUD (Australian Dollars). The ultimate goal is to facilitate the distribution of the resulting funds to the Australian bank accounts of the app users. However, it's important to note that this service is not provided free of charge; there is a cost associated with it.

Most users cash out once a month and find the $1.50 fee palatable given the app is free to use and they are earning the coins for fairly low effort.

Shouldn't the $1.50 withdrawal fee be included in the title?

    • +1

I can't find any mention of any withdrawal fee anywhere.

      • +1

Because it's hidden (and as I clarified below, only kicks in after a few weeks).

        • I spoke to their chat and for new users the fee is waived for 3 weeks.

    • Most app members withdraw once a month, so the fee is amortised across all their earnings for the month.
I've added details about withdrawal to the body of the post.

      • While I feel a bit bad for starting all this dissent (I still recommend the app!), my point was that there's no way of getting the full $2.85 after the first month so it's a bit misleading to have it in the title.

      • I just uploaded a receipt for the tegel lousiana chicken portions 1kg. It said 0 out of 1 item recognised, so I went to rectify and it was labelled "tegel - lousiana". I clicked map and scanned the product barcode and it recognised it and said rewards paid. Yet when I go to my timeline that receipt still says 0 shping coins awarded. When I looked at my receipt it's now moved to woolworths but says 0 of 1 recognised.

Also the tegel scan was the only scan that has worked out of the 5 products I have tried to scan - it says 'oops something went wrong try again in a few minutes' - I tried again hours later then a day later, same result.

Wait it cost $1.50 to withdraw? That’s insane!

    • Not for new customers, I think you get 2 or 3 weeks of free withdrawals.

The app is based on cryptocurrency - I don't think they really want people withdrawing it for cash long term.

Haha that's scummy, I just installed.. now I'm uninstalling!

There's no reason not to use it for the free period. Or beyond - it's not hard to earn $20ish in a month just by scanning your receipts. You have to put up with the coin value fluctuations if you don't regularly withdraw but that doesn't bother me if I get the coins for free anyway.

        • I guess. What's good value out of the boosters? I'm not sure how to convert this sh*tcoins to $.

          • @Bdawg: No idea. I don't pay any attention to them as it's rarely stuff I buy and working out what 415.8 coins are worth is annoying!

I just upload receipts. It pays you every time you do for some reason.

      So have I - now it's not…

  • My coles doesn't have the chicken booo! Dinner not sorted.

Not keen on this idea, withdrawal fee makes it worse.
    Free then start charging??

  • The rep is very active on here, maybe he will work out a solution to keep Ozbargainers happy. I enjoy this app and it’s nice to get ~50 cents per receipt. But I too would not be happy with $1.50 withdrawal fee..
