Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including August 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" " or "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong. Possible fraud scenario: API returns during purchase - credit to @himalpatel. Live chat advised that if you faced the above fraud scenario message, you need to use your friends details (aka a completely different details) to order
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

Ordinarily, I would get this, but I made my $5 profit from Shopback yesterday.

    • Well… until they honour that and you get your profits approved. If..

    • Same here been burned by Shopback in the past and decided to distrust them moving forward

      • Never had a problem so far with Shopback or Boost, so far. But after reading a few comments, I am weary.

        • Tired you out did they? ;-)

I've never had a problem with either of them except once when I did something wrong. But yes, it sounds like more people have trouble with Boost & Shopback than Boost & Cashrewards. Maybe it's user error, maybe not. It sure would be nice to know.

          • @[Deactivated]: Literally did everything right and it tracked on thier system too. Then lo and behold 6 weeks later they reject the transaction without any explanation. I sent a few messages back and forth to receive only generic answers. Not worth the hassle imo - and upon research on here, plenty of people report the same thing! Apparently it happens mostly in the case of "upsized/promo" cashback 🤷‍♂️

@thriftysu: Hm ok thanks. In that case I'll stick to Cashrewards Boost deals only. If they're not going to honor or "fight" or even pay themselves when you can prove it, then they don't deserve the business.

Not as good as the $10 profit from shopback yesterday. Holding for atleast $4.50 cashback from CR

Whole bunch of people having issues in literally every single post including this one but okay, let's downvote.

      • Well if you insist… (Joking. Unless you do want me to?)

    • +2

I Literally never have issues? i've been buying sims from these promos ever since they started up more then a year ago.

      • +2

Yes, obviously a lot of people can buy fine - just as I have been able to in the past.

But just because you don't have issues doesn't mean others are all fine. And if you don't think pointing out poor customer service is worth doing then I don't know what else to say.

      • Do you buy during the day/peak traffic times? I only buy late at night when I know their system will have zero, or close to zero, stress/load (because I believe their server/host is borked - either a faulty RAM stick, bad drive sector, a power supply glitching under heavy load, etc).

        • I buy just whenever I see the deal. Yesterday I bought at roughly 9AM.

    • Have any of these people with issues tried a Wise card? https://wise.com/

      • +1

By all means try but it won't help. Even first time buyers get blocked, who don't get flagged anywhere else online, and once flagged it never goes away no matter what you change.

    From the OP,

Live chat advised that if you faced the above fraud scenario message, you need to use your friends details (aka a completely different details) to order

So live chat advise to get around fraud detection of a legitimate purchase, use fraud.

  • Bring it on, CR!

    Comon, lets $5.25

    You can do it!

I’ve been getting the “ SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG We’re sorry but we’re experiencing technical issues. Please try again later.” error for more than a month now.

    I give up.

    • Got this too for the second time ever for me. Have bought over 20 times previously, all using the same name and email and via either the SB or CR Android app.

      • Good chance you've bought a bunch in the last few days?

        • Only 1 previous attempt to buy in the past two weeks, which was a failed attempt yesterday for the SB $5

          • @aaron3: Weird, it happens for me if I've bought up to 6 within the last few days before trying again.

Get onto Boost chat and ask them. One rep told me to clear my cache or something one time and it seemed to work.

            • @Pub Envelope: Clearing OUR cache on OUR computers resets THEIR fraud detection on THEIR server!? LOL. I guess anything is possible [Sigh].

Have you bought any lately? Did it work?

  • +1

tried everything and just got the same error message as others here, seems like just indiscriminately block anyone from ordering, no matter your name/email/number/address etc

Not sure what the point of Boost evening doing this promo is, regardless of the Cashback/Shopback bonuses.

  • +1

    < $5 profit. I sleep.

  • +1

Seems like the party is over for lot of us still getting something is wrong error message

It’s too late now, but in future with free sim deals, if it ever happens again with other telcos , maybe we should not abuse a deal that is required to get other deals.

    Just my thoughts

    • It's not due to overbuying. First time buyers can be blocked. While people who use one SIM but just activate and discard the other 20x they bought, don't get flagged.

  • just ordered one, still working.

  • worked for me and instant tracking, first time trying this deal tho

  • Getting "SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG" too

    :(

  • No tracking for me. I bought two from the previous deal which tracked instantly

    • Oh nvm, got tracking confirmation

  • -1

Ive been using these deals for the last 4 or so months. I am pretty sure I went over the 30 days once or twice. Does anyone know for sure if the cashback is still honored if it goes over the 30 days by a bit? Will buy one, but dont know whether I should risk 2 or more.

    • It shouldn't be honored but may get through. If it does it's not something anyone should rely on. (It might work once but never again.)

The only risk is ourselves not activating before midnight on the last day. So just write the last day for activation on the packets when they arrive, and/or setup a reminder/alarm on your phone.

  • With Boost Mobile, I recall that you can still receive incoming sms (and perhaps incoming phone calls too) 6 months after the SIM had expired.

It appears now that after the SIM had expired, you can’t receive any incoming sms/calls anymore. I am seeing this. Can anyone confirm this too?

    • +1

I did port out after expired 3-4 days from boost several weeks ago, sms was working without any problem.

  • I was trying to activate the sim, ID check had passed and I was up to the stage where it gave you an option for the next recharge, when I clicked next, this message came up"Something went wrong, we're unable to process this request at this time" Tried a few times in the past few days and always the same, anyone knows why?
