Had a run in with Evel Knievel today, got myself a driving award, that Kojak with a Kodak was hiding in the shadows, over.

Oricom = crap. Do yourself a favour and just buy a decent one to start with

    • Good to know. Thanks

    • Don't know that they're "crap" (5 yr warranty is industry leading), but in general Icom>GME>Uniden>Oricom

n=3 here, and ≠ crap for us. Oricom 300s and 310s. In 4WDs that go bush including the world's best corrugations being the Bamaga Bypass (ocean waves I swear) and the Meereenie Loop.

No issues whatever - and in a 100 series cruiser it's an excellent fit where the cigarette ashtray normally is.

    • What will you recommend for good quality handheld and car please

  • own one of these in the 80s.. they are like social media of the time..

    “breaker.. breaker… radio check over”

    what a blast!

    • Handy, and at times amusing, on roadtrips being able to listen to the truckies & caravaners, and great around wide-loads, roadworks, and accidents.. (I very rarely talk, just listen/monitor)

The wide-load pilot vehicles always call out their widths on the radio so you can judge if you just have to move over or pull right off the road…

Lots of bogan double-digit IQ truckies and 4WD drivers these days, lots of swearing, it's like a throwback to boganism, channel 40.

    • What location are you talking about? I'm surprised how good road channels are these days - even ch40. Much better than the SSB CB days I gather.

      • Yeh, I don't think it's too bad, there's a bit of crap in and around the big cities but that's to be expected…

What surprises me is how many people use the emergency channels for general chatter, it often seems to be mines/quarries and businesses around larger towns…

These days teenies and empty headed hoons are busy with their phones updating their social media with fascinating stuff like 'I'm out and about with <mate> at Maccas then we're heading home to hang out.'

      • Yep and the clear warnings about locations of "flash for cash" are worth the purchase price alone…

      • SE QLD, it’s absolute trash

        • I did guess Qld, largely by elimination. My sympathies.
