It's not bad considering it contains a fairly sophisticated WiFi inside
Can anyone comment on their use of these cards? I agree that they appear to be overpriced - and 8GB doesn't get far if you're shooting RAW
raw12 18mp = 296 shots
raw12 22mp = 240 shots
It's quite a lot of shots when you consider that you can always dump them to laptop, mobile etc. It's not really a travellers tool…for sure, you would carry larger capacity cards.. the main idea is to speed up the process from image to workstation, email, social media etc. etc.
If you're shooting RAW, you're obviously not directly uploading them to social media so I don't know how much use you would have for a card like this. It's definitely a cool idea though and will probably become the standard.
Agree…comment was in reference to what it's designed for which is JPEG images…..RAW generally goes on CF and is great for post editing but certainly not the norm for a quick crop & resize before printing, email etc.
That depends on what camera you have. If you just have a camera with one SD slot, want RAW for later processing, but JPG for current tethering….
Think the standard is more to put wifi on the camera itself… so then not tied to a certain speed/brand of memory card.
I have three of these cards. The RAW function is really intended for studio shooting. Transmit direct to a laptop as you shoot so it can be manipulated immediately. It's very slow to transfer over wifi.
The Pro version also has AdHoc mode so can operate better in some situations.
With the 8GB model I shoot RAW plus JPEG medium resolution. Transfer only the jpegs over wifi to the iPad I have in my backpack. I can basically shoot all day and have the photos ready in the iPad at any time for review and potentially uploads to Flickr, etc. The iPad also serves as a photos backup. It drains batteries somewhat, but still enough to last all day.
With modern dual slot DSLRs you can shoot a week with 64GB on one slot for RAW and an EyeFi on the other for JPG. But lots of modern DSLR has native or cheap optional WiFi function as well
I have three of the previous generation card. I think they are great for shooting pics and having them automatically upload to your home network. I love the auto-geotagging features on mine. I think you need the pro-card on the newer version cards for this feature, as well as RAW uploading. In terms of the card being too small, I don't thinlk I've ever deleted a file off the camera, I believe it automatically frees up space if the file has successfully been uploaded and backed up, see the product description:
Endless Memory mode is an option you can activate on your Eye-Fi Connect X2. Enable Endless Memory, and your Eye-Fi Connect X2 card will automatically free up space once your photos and videos have been safely delivered. It’s like having an endless memory card!
I heard they suck battery like… I better stop here.
If you leave Wifi on your phone on all day what happens….Most decent SLR's these days have dual card slots cso you can copy A to B then send….wifi will suck battery of course but only when it's transferring……and if you a hobby photographer how many photos do you generally take in a day?
I don't think most people here have much of an idea of what these are for, and are therefore unlikely to be part of the target demographic.
Great device for what it's designed for.
I was looking to buy this today and this is the best price i seen. Compare to canon WFT-E2A Wireless Transmitter i think this is a great optional device with less functions. but compare to WFT-E2A which cost around $1280 this a great price.
this will be perfect to work with GoFlex Satellite 500gb hard disk. So we can just use it for extra memory.
Decent local price, but personally I think they are still overpriced regardless!
