lenovo's version has made the ally obselete too
Not exactly… it weighs quite a lot more, doesn't have VRR and the Z1 Extreme version is at pre-order for $1499… the base Z1 is $1299
How much more is lenovo's ?
With the controls attached it's 854g vs ROG Ally 608g
@kudoz: Yikes that's approaching ultrabook level weight…
A bigger issue is that it's running windows. GROSS!
While that is true, but I don't think all Units are corrupting sd cards. Mine is fine and got it on launch but there are other who have this issue.
The only thing that I can come up with is that when people run ally on turbo mod (30 watts) it get too hot (95c) and it F-up the SD card and in my case I only use ally at 20watts max and mostly on 15 watt to keep the heat under control (67c max) and so the battery can last little longer. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend it to others.
The SD card issue cannot, and likely will not be fixed in the foreseeable future.
The PCB design places the SD card slot and controller right in proximity of the exhaust. In order to correct this, a complete board redesign needs to occur as a revision can't relocate the components entirely.
The only time Asus will do this, is in their next product line up.
The more you use your unit, the hotter you're getting your cards/controller and the more likely you are to kill the card and controller. It's literally designed so poorly, using it is what breaks it.
Asus send their thanks for beta testing their product.
Maybe we can play with it for 3 month then return it cos full refund cos it wrecked my sd card.
Dealing with these overseas barely caring support people is not worth your time and energy.
I'm still mad about one of these companies wanting me to send them a video of me cutting my headphone cables instead of the company fixing them because they would rather see it going straight to landfill for eternity.
good deal
Everyone should know the issue of corrupting SD cards is still an ongoing without a solution in sight.
