  • Can this be used on hiking trips? Or is it too big. Would like a similar deal for a PLB

Borrow one for free from the local cops or National Parks office?

      • I'm in QLD, I thought that was NSW only?

        • Worth a look, I have seen them offered in WA, and I think TAS.
EDIT: seems I misrembered and it must have been for hire.

          • @mskeggs: Yeah I can't find much other than in NSW. Some companies do hire them, but its like $50 per hire, at that point I feel I may as well get one.

@Boioioioi: This one is the size of a brick and weighs half a kilo, so not suitable for hiking. But the small hiking ones are 3 times the price!

  • The small plb is only $100 more and sometimes less.

    • Example? ive been wanting a cheap non marine plb

      • GME Accusat MT610G or ACR ResQLink 400 are some that are in the 350-400 mark.

      • I recommend Ocean Signal RescueMe PLB1.
Its the smallest PLB available in Aus.

Can be had for about $320-340 on ebay.

    • There's different standards for marine EPIRB vs PLB. These ones float upright and are required on boats and have the mounts.

This is not float free. It is manually activated.

Never said it was, I said it floats upright with the antenna facing the sky. A PLB may float however it won't float with the antenna facing up.
