    Something is better than nothing.

Majority of Amex’s recent statement credits are disappointing.

    • +21

Disappointing is putting it lightly. I'm tempted to not renew going forward. This year has been terrible for Statement Credits.

      • you need to always do the cancel dance with them, every year..
Read more info on experiences here

  • +1

Thanks. Only on my main card. If I'm not wrong previously was also limited to main card

    • Can also confirm primary cards only

    • Got it on my all 3 cards: Charge (primary), Plat reserve, Qantas Ultimate

    • Says no additional cards.

  • +1

Any idea if it is once per retailer?

    • No it can be at the same retailer it seems … https://www.americanexpress.com/en-au/credit-cards/membershi…

      • So you can pay 4 times and get $40 back ?

        • +2

Yes. Could also probably pay $200 and get $40 back

          • -5

@kerfuffle: No, that is not how it works.

            • +6

@Buyer0fBargains: Thanks for the neg. Just going by past experience, including last year when I took advantage of this twice at DJs.

            • +7

@Buyer0fBargains: @kerfuffle is alluding to the fact that for a lot of AMEX’s Get $x Back Up To y Times cashback offers, you can earn the maximum cashback available in one transaction, rather than the y transactions in the deal title. For example, for AMEX’s Ampol cashback offers, it is well known you can earn the full cashback in just one transaction (not two transactions).

However, you are probably right in saying it will not work for this deal, because this deal has a clause where it states you can only earn a maximum of $10 cashback per transaction, but a maximum of $40 per card. That is not a clause you usually see in these kinds of AMEX cashback deals.

              • -2

@WookieMonster: Yes, I always go by the T&Cs and they all use slightly different wording but if it says “a maximum of X per eligible transaction” than that’s what you get regardless of how much you spend. Another example of it was the Vegepod deal.
I know what other deals state but kerfuffle with a wrong in stating “Yes. Could also probably pay $200 and get $40 back“
That was an assumption as they said themselves, and it’s not how it works when it states a maximum per transaction in the t&c’s (which I linked to)

              • @WookieMonster: Just wanna be clear that if I make a $200 purchase and split into 4 payments of $50 each, $40 cashback would be okay per the T&Cs, would that be correct?

                Thanks

                • +5

@ja912son: It would be okay as per the terms and conditions, because each $50 payment would be treated as a separate transaction.

You need to keep in mind that you may trigger AMEX’s fraud protection by doing four transactions in a short period of time, because AMEX could see this behaviour as someone having stolen your card (or its details) and then trying to spend funds quickly whilst trying to circumvent any potential transaction limits.

        • Yes, as long as each purchase is minimum $50

        • Just tried to spend $200 on gift card at one time and received email from AMEX confirmed that I have used the offer.

          • +2

@yeqingyezhunan: That doesn't actually mean you'll get $40 back though. Please report back when the credit comes through

            • @kerfuffle: From my previous experience, for those multiple time offer, if you didn't use it up, AMEX will not send you the confirmation email. I will not say 100% I will get the $40 back, but it is more than likely.

              • @yeqingyezhunan: That's what I said too but @WookieMonster reckons it's not possible this time round: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14435226/redir

              • +2

                @yeqingyezhunan: 4x transactions gets 4x confirming emails.

Let us know if you get the $40 back to save everyone the hassle of splitting.

                • @ihbh: I didn’t get multiple confirming emails, even though I split payment into $50 increments. Has anyone actually confirmed this works at same retailer or is it actually once per retailer? Confirmed meaning got the Cashback?

          • @yeqingyezhunan: Out of interest was this online or in person?

          • @yeqingyezhunan: Which store?

          • +5

@yeqingyezhunan: Confirmed $40 back on this DJ gift card transaction.

            • @yeqingyezhunan: Just to confirm, you made one $200 DJ gift card purchase online at David Jones and received $40 Amex credit.

          • -1

@yeqingyezhunan: I read in the t&c that it excludes gift cards? Did it really work?
Excludes purchases of gift cards from Myer, Estee Lauder and MAC. Purchases on Acler, Aquazurra, Khaite, L'idee, Liandra Swim, Maara Collective, Ngali, Scanlan Theodore, Theory and Wynn Hamlyn only eligible via David Jones. Purchases on Dom Bagnato only eligible via Myer.

  • -4

No Myers this year and Uniqlo. And such high minimum spend.

    • +2

They’re both in the online list.

      • -1

That’s interesting. I guess it means no coles Myer gift cards

        • +1

Why? If you buy gift cards in Myer CBD, I think it will work.

          • @gao234: Hay anybody tried yet, please share your experience..

    • +4

Myer and Uniqlo are on the Fashion list. They haven't brought back Westfield giftcards!

  • +2

Can do 4x$50 DJ gift cards

    • You do DJ!

    • instead of doing 4x50 can you just do 1x 200 and it will give you 4x10 back?

      • +4

you could ask nicely to split the payment four ways

  • +2

Any idea if this stacks with other offers? L'occitane is an identified retailer on this promo but also has its separate spend $100 get $20 back promo. Similar with RM Williams

    • Yeah love to see if this works too!

    • +1

Yes it does, as long it shows on your Amex statement that you spent +$50 on said store directly.

      • Have you done from experience ? So it will be $100 spend and $40 back from loccitane

        • yes

          • +1

@ChaseTheSun: Just did this and it doesn’t work in one go. $100 spend will get you $20 back and $10 back.

            • +3

@UberIsCool: did a $100 purchase on the weekend and confirm that the credit has hit and yes it does stack :-)

              23 Oct WWW.LOCCITANE.COM.AU PD ADYEN -$20.00
              23 Oct WWW.LOCCITANE.COM.AU PD ADYEN -$20.00
              21 Oct L'OCCITANE AUSTRALIA PT SYDNEY $100.00

              • @SY: I stand corrected, this also worked for me!

  • +1

Can confirm you should get an e-mail if you make a qualifying purchase (just purchased from Mecca)

    • Do you think buying Gift cards from Mecca will work? Travelling in a day or so.

      • It did last year and it should this year (I bought one); they can't tell what you bought. You can buy them online

        • -3

Won't let me order egift card on Mecca's website. Duh

          • -5

@fiveferrari: No need to be rude.

            • -1

@kerfuffle: What are you talking about ? Mecca website won’t let me purchase a e gift card.

              • @fiveferrari: There was no need to add 'duh' at the end. That was what made it rude. How was I supposed to know that for some strange reason you can't purchase eGift Cards? I was able to buy one online just fine.

  • +2

Will it work for buying $50 Coles Myer giftcard from Myer Sydney CBD store?

    • No, it says under T&C's: Excludes purchases of gift cards from Myer, Estee Lauder and MAC.

      • +3

They say that, but they can't tell what you buy from Myer.

        • True, never tried it myself so might give it a try this time.

          • +1

@Connected: It's only if you try buy the gift cards online that it won't work as it goes through a different website

  • will it work for gift cards in myer perth?

    • Tell me you didn't read the OP without telling me you didn't read the OP

  • Available in physical stores in SYD CBD (19 Oct)
whats mean? if we wanna buy DJ gift cards…must do on 19 oct??

    • +2

You can buy from 18-29 October. The event itself is tomorrow.

  • +1

Anyone know if we can stack the online offers with MyAmexShop.com.Au?

    • i did it with farfetch recently

  • Does it work for DJ egift card online? Or instore only?

  • Do they check for the category of items purchased?

Their list of online retailers has a column for category.

e.g. They list David Jones in the "fashion" category. If I buy a suitcase from David Jones, is it eligible for this offer?

    • It's only listed in Fashion because there is no department store category and DJs is primarily known for (better) fashion (than Myer)

      • Right, so the fashion category doesn't mean only fashion items from DJ are eligible.

    • +2

Yep, I bought Lego and got the cashback

  • -2

Does this work for Myer in store for Coles Myer gift cards?

  • Works for buying Uniqlo gift card online? Has someone tried?

    • +1

No, because UNIQLO don't sell gift cards.

  • Have anyone successfully buy DJ gift card online?

    • +2

Yes, mate, I just did, it worked.

  • -2

You can only get 1 cashback per card per retailer?

  • +1
    • Buying Mecca eGift Cards online works; got the credits.
    • Buying DJs eGift Cards online works (even if you have a DJs Amex); credits will appear tomorrow as they appear in the Savings tab on my account.
    • Just to be clear, you did multiple transactions at Mecca online and David Jones? I've so far done one on mecca online and one at Myer. If I want more mecca, doing two more $50 transactions should get the last two $10 back?

      • +1

        They were multiple transactions.

    • I bought DJ egiftcards on Monday. No Amex email and no credits so far and still not showing on the savings tab. Still time but beginning to think it hasn't worked for me.

      • I got an e-mail when I bought one on Monday.

        • Have you got the credit yet? If not does it show under your savings tab?

          • @SydneySwan: No and no. Something going on at Amex's end.

            • +1

@kerfuffle: On the app it now shows this offer as recently redeemed on 25/10. Transaction was actually on 23/10. Perhaps it will show in Savings tab tomorrow?
