Thanks but no thanks! Lebara has the worst reception !!!!! Even slow my phone down!!!!

Its Vodaphone, its fine in my area. and yes Voda technically does have the "worst" reception in Australia in rural areas but most metro areas are fine such as my use.

A phone network can't slow your phone down, you do know that, right? The physical processor in your phone manages this.

If you live in a major city, chances are it'll work well, if you live in a regional area, probably not, but we all know this by now, we haven't been hiding under a rock all our lives.

In my area the Vodafone network has better speeds than Telstra, it's different for everyone, that should go without saying.

      • I have heard that if you live between the towers, especially three, then the phone can slow down as it tries to connect between the three. Not sure if this is true or not

        • Your phone only hands off to 1 tower at a time (the strongest one), the same occurs even more often when moving in a vehicle, it has no impact on the processor, and the handing over between towers is handled by the LTE/5G modem, not the processor.

          • @SimAus007: But would there be more bonding when experiencing low signal/low bandwidth to gain a better connection causing an extra computational load?

            • +1

@bobvegas: No, the modem will drain a little more power from the battery to increase wattage if the signal is low, but handing over (switching) is not an intensive job for the modem.
The modem chip in all current phones doesn't allow your phone to jump from one tower to another on the second, that's not efficient for the network or the phone/device.
It's very easy to see the exact tower your phone is connected to and review how often this occurs if that interests you.
Just download the Open Signal app :)

Sim cards are not going to throttle your CPU, what an absurd accusation. You just might have low network throughput

      • +2

I once had a Vodafone sim grow arms, and it strangled my iPhone.

After the fight was over, the sim walked away, and my CPU was much beter

Leave them all in the shop for me then. Vodafone is brilliant at home, on the train and in my office.

  • anyone knows a 365-day sim for around $100.00.? thank you..

So, swapping between Lebara and Boost you can get almost free mobile service

    • -1

      Almost ;)

Although I do get sick of porting so often, I prefer longer term options, such as 3, 6 or 12 months.

    • So, swapping between Lebara and Boost you can get almost free mobile service

Yes, if you can get min $4 profit from Cashrewards via boost sim and port to a $4 Lebara monthly

  • Is it possible to activate this on the PAYG plan, and receive any credit? (as can be done with a Vodafone starter pack)
I tried with the $4 SIM, and could select the plan, but had to pay again for credit.

  • It’s been going on for a while. Do not buy multiple though. All of these in my local store expires before the end of this year.

    • The expiry date isn't a real one. 2 months ago I successfully activated a sim with expiry date of November 2022.

      • If you like to live dangerously, sure.

        • +1

Yeah I agree, potentially you could be stuck in churn hell where your service with previous carrier has been disconnected but can't activate new sim. I messaged them first, they said to disregard expiry. It worked for me

          • @bobvegas: No, that's not what I meant. I mean the potential to lose $6 is a huge deal. Haha. ;)

  • Can we ask/change this with an eSim upon registration?

    • eSIM was mentioned on their website. I haven't figured out how to do it… Let me know when you do!

    • -1

You have to BUY the $2 eSIM from their website to transfer to eSIM.

  • How long does it take to port to Libra

How is Libra customer service in case I run into problems.

Anyone else offering a similar deal but with better customer service?

    • Port to Lebara from Boost took 5 min

    • +1

      Libra.. 😂

  • Anyone luck with this in Sydney and can share where?
Tried three stores but no joy. Cheers
