  • If it can do 1x8k60hz shouldn't it be about to handle 2x4k120hz?

    • +1

Probably because the cable itself only has one connector and adding a splitter would reduce the amount of effective bandwidth you can pump out to 2x screens.

    • +4

If it is a proper USB 4 / Thunderbolt 4 cable, then it should. However, that support probably has more to do with the device(s) you have, whether it implements DisplayPort 2.0 alt-mode properly or not (or still DisplayPort 1.4 alt-mode).

For example, for Apple Macs M2 Max or better, you are looking at three displays up to 6K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt 4 (no 8K support via Thunderbolt 4 ports). For 8K support, Apple opted for HDMI native / direct. That, technically is better, because USB 4 / Thunderbolt 4 currently requires the use of DSC (display stream compression) to achieve 8K. That will change in the future USB 4 Gen 4 / Thunderbolt 5 standards (currently, we only have USB 4 Gen 3x2, this cable supports only up to USB 4 Gen 3x2).

In reality, this could simply be a Thunderbolt 3 100W cable, re-packaged and sold as USB 4 / Thunderbolt 4 cable. At 1m, you cannot tell. Or, you could assume that's the case and that's why they didn't specify dual 4K 120Hz support.

  • Does transfer speed for 4k borrow neck at the cable?

  • Does this give max data transfer speed for the iPhone 15 pros?

    • +2

iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C data rate is 10Gbps, and this cable's data rate is 40Gbps, apparently yes.

  • +3

I have a few of these cables from a different brand (AHGEIIY) but appear identical and share the same product descriptions. Not bad for the price. Just keep in mind they’re basically over-speced USB4 cables without Thunderbolt 4 certification.

A good summary on the differences between USB4 and Thunderbolt 4: https://satechi.net/blogs/usb-4-0-vs-thunderbolt-4-0-differe…

    • That'll do the trick for me. Recently got a Xiaomi Pad pro 6 and while I have 100E type C cables they only transfer at glacial usb 2.0 speeds.

So need something that can take advantage of the USB 3.2 port on the Xiaomi

      • +1

Yep I use one of these cables for a USB 3.2 Gen 2 hard drive and it works very well.

  • +1

Are these compatible with the new iPhone 15 Pro Max to get maximum speeds?

    • Based on the stated specs they should be - they should also be future proof for if/when Apple bring thunderbolt speeds to future iPhones

  • iPhone 15 is using USB C. Thunderbolt connection can RIP.

    • +1

The 15 Pro and Pro Max use USB C with USB 3.2 which does not support Thunderbolt and is slower than Thunderbolt. It's likely Apple will bring faster connections in the future

    • +1

      iPhone 15 is using USB-C/USB 3.2 Gen 2 with DisplayPort 1.4/Alt-Mode (4K/60Hz) support.

A Thunderbolt 4 / USB 4 Gen 3x2 cable, for the time being is an overkill for iPhone 15.

    • Thunderbolt 3 and beyond the same connector as USB-C
