These are great if you never mastered how to use a normal tamper with a handle. It's much easier to get consistent results because of the rebate and depth adjustment.

  • Consistent Brew- Get consistent distribution and pressure every time making it easy to pull your perfect shot right at home, Leveling your grounds before tamping creates a uniform and consistent tamp.
  • Adjustable Depth - Set your desired tamping depth for consistent tamping pressure every time.
  • Dual Head- Distributor/Leveler and tamper are designed in one, double sides are available.
  • Pro Tips-Ensure your portafilter basket is fully dosed with coffee grinds to get the right amount of pressure from the tamper for a tighter pack and richer flavor. For best results, groom the top of the basket with a flat edge before leveling and tamping. Brew with good, filtered water.

  • Which size would i need for EC9155MB? Can’t find the size of the tamper.

    • +1

You have a 51mm portafilter, so grab that one!

      • Thanks 😃 Do you think this will make much difference compared to the included one?

        • +1

This is less a tamper than a distributor. I have a 51mm model and you use it when you put your grinds in to even out where the grounds are sitting in the portafilter, then use the tamper after that to compress the grounds.

        • +1

For me it kinda helped with the distribution. If you take the time to setup the height correctly, it makes the end result more consistent than standard included tampers.

        • +1

Gives a flat even finish …one side to level one for flat tamp I have the 58 mm one.

I thought the thinking with these things is that they do more harm than good.

WDT does a great good job of distributing the grinds, and removes the clumps that can lead to channeling.

    • +3

WDT definitely more useful than distributor, but a lot of people combine both

      • My feeling based on no evidence is that WDT fixes the concern with these distributors, which is that you have peaks and valleys when you apply the distributor so you get a bit of a tamp before twirling it.

That said, I could be totally wrong on this and if it works for people then it just works. I've seen quite a few videos of people WDT-ing and then using a distributor before tamping.

        • I can increase your sample size to one - I use WDT to remove clumps and even the coffee across the portafilter, then the distributor at a very shallow level (so minimum tamping) then use the tamp side for the final tamp.

This pretty quick, and novice friendly, routine gives me consistent shots (paired with single dosing my beans).

When I just used the distributor or just WDT (and tamp) I would get channelling or inconsistent shots.

And I assume like most coffee people once you find a consistent method you just stick to it!

@TheClash: The art of pulling a shot is like any superstition. Once it's there it ain't budging.

I'm still working to perfect mine. Probably need to grind finer.

Based on this comment I found this other sale on Amazon for a WDT https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0C61X8LLL

    • I feel the same way, I have this type of distributor and stopped using it.

It has weight, which would inevitably pressing down on the coffee grounds resulting a premature tamp.

      • I guess if you do after WDT it helps to just settle the grounds on top so you get an easier tamp. I wouldn't use a distributor without WDT because, as you said, you can get a partial tamp from the distributor.

You can get the same one here for $15.39
    https://www.temu.com/au/1pc-coffee-distributor-tamper-dual-h…

    • That one is single sided distribute only, some people may prefer that.

This deal is double sided, distribute and tamp, 2 functions.

    • +7

I think I'd pay the extra few dollars just to avoid Temu.

I find the coffee gets caught in the gap between the chrome and black sections, near the thread. Also if I use my palm on one side, the grinds are more likely to stick there once you flip it over and tamp, resulting in a broken puck.

This thing is about 500g. It is pretty heavy and it slipped out of my hand a couple of times when I am doing a fast workflow. I have since changed to a single side distributor which is half the weight and much more comfortable to use.

  • I used this for a while, but it can cause the coffee to be more condensed in certain areas causing more water to flow in those less condensed areas than others.
I've recently switched to a stirring WDT, and get better results.

    • I don't think it's an either-or situation. I'd use both for different reasons. Needles to remove clumps (and distribute better, btw), this to tamp consistently (and distribute better, btw).

  • once adjusted right these things are worth it you get the same tamp every time.

  • +2

I have this but i'm just using the distributor as both distribution and tamp. Just spin around a few times. I find it's heavy enough to do both and it's consistent

  • anyone have a recommendation for a 51mm bottomless portafilter for the dedica? I got the Neouza one a couple months back and had to return it as it was untightening when the coffee was being made, like slowly spinning anti clockwise

    • use threadlock, or even plumbers tape

      • Yeah but you shouldn’t have to right?

        • Except metal on metal screw and threads will always loosen (you can torque it to spec, but use and vibration as well as thermal expansion will loosen it), unless you are doing metal to plastic. There is a reason loctite and plumbers tape exist. You are paying for a 20 dollar product not a 200 dollar one.

  • There's a few neouza things on special but not 54mm bottomless portafilter which is what I need!

    • The 53mm one suggests that it is suitable for a 54mm Breville portafilter, if that's what you have. Oops, just re-read your comment—would be nice to have that on sale too!

  • Does someone know the size of EM5000 by sunbeam? My machine is getting delivered today so don't know the size yet. Thanks 😊

  • +2

Coffee people😊 You know that perfect cup of coffee is unattainable right?

    • +1

But trying for it is still fun!

  • 58mm is gone up to $25

  • +1

    Thanks OP, ordered one.

I dont have a coffee machine yet but this is too good a bargain.

  • Never knew making the coffee perfectly flat and compacted makes that much of a difference to the coffee quality

    • The moment you get channeling the water won't be filtering evenly through all the grinds.

Basically you're wasting coffee & not getting a proper full strength shot. Plenty of YT vids about it.
