Spotted this in WW Doncaster East (Melb) so I am not sure whether there would be stock in other stores.
Looks like it is comparable to the Vivo Y21S offer from a few weeks back, with a 6.5in IPS HD screen, triple camera, fingerprint unlock and NFC. Comes with a screen protector and a silicone case.
According to the Telstra website, the A52 has 3GB/64GB and single (nano) SIM slot. Looks like it shipped with Android 11.
Plus Telstra tosses in a 10GB/14 day SIM card, which has to be worth something. I would assume the usual unlocking protocol applies.
Might be a decent thing for a kiddie or a senior who is not overly demanding on their handset.

SmartPhones can be had for incredibly cheap these days yet some phones are 2k+
just goes to show how crazy they are marking them upYeah sure , your comparison between this and a galaxy S23 or iPhone 15 is laughable !
Their COGS is still incredibly small
Your grasp of profit margins is what’s laughableIt isn't. Do you have any idea what the R&D and manufacturing cost of shrinking process nodes is? Samsung reports less than 1:60 Revenue:profit.
@Ademos: Marketing would be the biggest cost
@DannyBoy: "Would be". Lucky talking out your backside is free, eh? https://www.samsung.com/global/ir/financial-information/audi… , it's all there if you care to substantiate that statement.
Save you some time? Samsungs marketing budget is around 5% of revenue.
Here's a link with thousands of analyses that suggest that the raw COG of making a phone is around 50%. https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=samsung+production+costs
This is aka not "incredibly small".
Regardless, even if it was, they're market leaders for a reason. Marketing is a business cost, 10 points to the bright spark in the corner there. It doesn't mean it's not a cost. It doesn't mean it's an optional cost. It's part of running literally any business.
Honestly, just stay leaning sneering on that back wall while the adults have the discussion, yeah?
@Ademos: Jesus you must be a blast at parties 🤣
So Karen advertising along with sales promotions total totalled 2.8m for that quarter compared to 6.5m for total R&D so yes I was incorrect.
But more importantly what did all of your condescending remarks achieve? You feel better now or is this just a usual way you engage in conversation over a keyboard?
@DannyBoy: Why would you think discussing company profit margins on an internet forum is the same kind of behaviour you'd do at a party? If this is your idea of a party, it seems like you'd be quite the bore!
They're being an absolute jerk about it, but your attitude that it's fine to post misinformation online "because it's the internet" is ridiculous. Samsung's profit margin is utterly unimportant, but if your attitude is that it doesn't matter whether stuff you post is true or not then you are very clearly part of the problem…
R&D and manufacturing cost of shrinking process nodes
R&D between iPhone 14 and 15?!
🤣
Damn that usb c is hard work! incredibly gullible@ChatCPT: I didnt realise a node could only be applied to one generation, or that r&d famously stopped between major product iterations. Or that people think the previous gen is paid off by one years release line. Lololol.
Im samsung all the way but trying to make this argument regarding apple who design their own hardware/chips is an extremely pants on head moment.
My condesenidng remarks were firing right back at you wandering in being a smartass and spouting off nonsense to back it. Dont start none, there wont be none. Dont like it, pause to reflect on your own behaviour.
You were wrong, doubled down being wrong again. Now sit there in your wrongness, and be wrong. Do 10 seconds of research before spouting raw misinformation to score cheap shots. I'm so tired of the behaviour on the internet.
@Ademos: Ok Mr I-Know I guess everyone should get off the net incase their dare to force miss information on everyone.
You must be either 100yrs old or new to the internet.
Please please get on Reddit, that will be sure to increase your blood flow 🤣
@DannyBoy: No no, go back to telling us about big costs and other expert advice on business.
You held yourself up as an expert and got pantsed. Handle your embarrasment with some grace. Quietly now, please.
@Ademos: Dude go get some help, you're thought process isn't healthy nor acceptable for how you think others should be treated.
Good day sir/mam/it
@DannyBoy: Oh a transgender joke, yeah, that'll win the crowd.
Who exactly do you think you are influencing. What imaginary audience do you feel applauding you, silently, for yhis performance?
I struggle to understand the psychology of people that confidently offer completely fabricated nonsense as fact, double down when exposed, then get extremely combative while trying to rope in a crowd to bully the person who highlighted their ignorance.
Oh wait, no i dont. Its textbook narcissitic rage.
Unlockable without the Telstra $80 fee or wait 2 years!
I remember buying an unlock code off ebay years back for one of these cheap phones. Actually worked! Was maybe $20 or something?? It was cheaper than getting it unlocked by the telco.
I wonder if bagman is still around.
will this work with boost sim?
Can you flash these with an official rom to remove the lock?
where to get unlock?
How I miss 'the bag man'. :(
YAY … I finally got one of these knocked down phones (the last one from Northland, VIC; no more there guys).
Specs:
@GnarlyKnuckles veruscoin farm ?
Got one from M-City Clayton (VIC). One left, but you have to ask for it - not on display.
Didn't receive a screen protector or case though?
Maybe there are slightly different versions.
Did it update to Android 12?
Always seem to be only Telstra phones that are on sale in Coles and Woollies. Need Optus.
Need a phone on clearance with 4K video capability.
Good deal for drug dealers and parents with destructive kids.
