  • What about lexar nm790? As compared to this? 1tb too less

    • +1

For a cheap drive I'd get https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-SN580-Internal-Sol… or the Black one

      • The blue falls short of the 5000+ mbps required for PS5

        Black is the same price

        • Why compare sn580 with these?

    • Also curious to know how it compares with Lexar considering Lexar is cheaper

      • Samsung has been fined a couple of times for price fixing on storage products over the years how can it be cheaper when there's so many lawyers to feed and fines to pay?

      • The Lexar wont work be great with the PS5 since the PS5 doesnt support HMB which the Lexar relies on due to it having no dram cache, the Lexar is pretty much only good as an internal SSD on PC.

If you want to use it in a PC, the Lexar will be fine, Any other use case (external SSD enclosure, PS5) you'd be much better off with the Samsung.

  • yep I have had the 2tb version in my PS5 since day one when they finally opened up the ssd port. still going strong. I have 80 installed games on my ps5

    • My PS5 is collecting dust because the game catalogue on consoles is terrible compared to PC. 80 games? damn, son.

      • thats not even my entire collection I have over 100 ps4 and ps5 game combined. physical games.

yeah I like them installed so I just put a disc in and it just runs.

        • There is no way you are utilizing more than 10 games let alone 80. It's not humanly possible.

        • Damn, your kung fu is strong, @kungfuman!

    • Isn’t the new firmware already available?

    • +5

It's one of the best selling nvme SSDs ever

    • +1

one I got about 1.5 months ago from Amazon US already had latest firmware

    • +2

The issue was highlighted a year ago and the firmware fix was already available for a year prior to that (Jan 22).

While definitely a legitimate issue from Samsung, the fact most people would of had no issue if they kept on top of the firmware updates is often overlooked.

    • i think you might have just been unlikly.

  • expected postage time?

    • No, thanks.

  • I've got an old 512 M.2 on my Acer z270.

Anyone know how you actually do a hard drive transfer with these bastards given I think you can only have one plugged in at the time? Is there a dongle or something to let you plug one in via usb or something for an initial shift?

    • +2

yes grab a usb nvme enclosure they are cheap

Samsung magician software is free and will migrate everything to your Samsung ssd

    • Macrium reflect free.
Just did 3 laptop upgrades, new nvme drive in a USB-C external enclosure.
After completion I just turned off the laptop, replaced the internal nvme drive with the new one and turned it on. All worked fine.

      • this is the way to go. I did countless laptops like that.

worth mentioning that it didn't work once. on a Razer Blade 17 Pro. whatever they did there required a bit more jigory pokery

  • Does this need a heatsink if used on a ps5?

  • Thank you. I bought one. I was going to buy a Crucial P5 Plus. Glad I waited.

    • Is there any chance you have your order number? I purchased one as well with another item that had a promo going on and their system bugged out and is showing the 980 PRO promotion was only 30$ instead of 60$.

  • the 2TB is about $225.

    • So, not worth it?

      • 1TB is better value, but slightly slower

    • 2tb was $195 yesterday with Prime day.

      • I would have got that instead.

      • Got a screen grab of that? I paid $228 from an earlier deal from the US. I'd like to claim back the difference through my credit card.

        • Sorry I don't

    • I used this enclosure to clone drives and it worked well.

  • Mine just arrived and they sent me the 990 Pro by accident! Happy days

  • Okay so please be careful with Amazon and their insane stupidity in the future. I checked out with 2 items that had a promotion, this one and a Samsung SSD S7 Shield 4TB portable SSD that also had about 50$ off promotion (from 398.61$ to 350.43$). Combined with this item it was about 110$ total.
Because I checked out with both in my cart, their idiotic system assigned 80$ promotion value to the S7 Shield and only 30$ to the 980 PRO. I am trying to refund the portable SSD and get my money back, but their system is only saying it would refund me 319$ instead of 350$ that it was supposed to be. Contacted Amazon and they don't believe me because their "system is correct". These morons don't even comprehend that a system can make a mistake.
I have no idea how the f it happened so if someone has an order from 11 October let me know your order number so I can prove to them the pricing was wrong, not that I believe it would help anything.
Otherwise just be careful with ordering any Amazon US item on Amazon AU and ALWAYS CHECKOUT ITEMS INDIVIDUALLY!
