I bought this during last Prime Day and love it. My previous iron was from kmart thought.

    Very smooth to iron with.

    • Is something like this worth the extra money over a kmart-equivalent budget iron in your experience?

      • -1

The Kmart Anko (RRP $29) rated 78% performance score, vs this one rating 90%.

TL;DR? many (most) who infrequently iron won't notice or care

      • +2

My Kmart one was about $30. It lasted me 3 years and did a great job.
The Philips iron felt more premium which was great since I iron my business shirts every week.
If the Philips lasts 3 years, I'd definitely buy it again given that its only $79

      • In my opinion a good quality iron is totally worth the investment. I've had a Phillips for a few years and it is much better to iron with than a cheap iron.

The reviews on the JB site which have flowed through from the Philips site aren’t too favourable. All say it doesn’t get hot enough and leaks.

    • +1

The last Philips iron I got in 2021 started leaking from the tank into the cable junction and tripped the RCD. Terrible build quality.

    • Yeah was just looking through those as well… figured an automatic temp thing sounded like a bad idea

      • +2

We bought one about a year ago. Wife used it for a while. It works okay but appears to need to time determine fabric type so that it adjust to correct temperature. It must revert to lowest temp as guaranteed not to burn any of your clothes. This means it's not hot enough when starting new garments requiring higher temperatures so have to use it for a while until higher temp is achieved.
In the end, my wife wanted one she could set the temp on herself so this one is now kept as a spare. If it was up to me I'd have kept using and just organise ironing into groups requiring similar temps and be prepared to start ironing next garment straight away. That's too complicated for some though!

Hoping to see Azur 8000 super sale closer to the actual sale days

    • I bought the azur 8000 for its vertical steaming function and promptly realised I should've just bought the Phillips vertical steaming station instead.

Excellent iron when used with an ironing board, but the vertical steaming function feels like a last minute marketing add-on to me.

Choice magazine October 2023 - recommended irons, in order

    1) Braun TexStyle 9 $129
    2) Philips PC PL GC3920 $139
    3) Philips PC PL GC3929 $159

So if you're in the market for a decent iron, buy this one.

  • if you just iron occasionally get it second hand .
plenty of mint condition irons available on gumtree and op shops when i was looking for one.

    Steam station or bust.

Can’t believe I went almost three decades before discovering them. Now I couldn’t be without. They literally cut ironing time in half. And let’s face it - everyone knows ironing is a prick of a job that should be minimised wherever possible. Treat yourself…

Since I'm on P68 of October Choise :)

The Russell Hobbs Steampower (RRP $150) rates 97% performance score.

The Philips iron is 93% performance score…

    • Which brand are you using, please recommend

Last time I was in the market 3 odd years ago, Philips and Tefal were pick of the bunch, but I couldn’t speak with experience about the current ranges.

I’ve had three different Philips over the past twenty years - typically the premium models which retailed between $300-$500 but all were picked up at around half price via Amazon or department stores. Philips do $50-$100 rebate promos a couple times a year which also help.

ohh thanks, if only people were as helpful as you instead of down voting

        • Join Prime to buy this item at $79.00
The light blue text is a marketing fail.

        • Yeah, if only people were more helpful!

I just buy plastic clothing that doesn't need ironing. Apparently it's bad for the environment, each wash leeches out micro plastics which ultimately end up in the ocean, but it's a real timesaver.

  • Any cashback from Phillips?

  • -1

I've been using distilled water, some clothes softeners, and a little bit of white vinegar.

I spray it on all my clothing to straighten out any wrinkles. I haven't ironed my clothes in ages.

Not a fan of these 'auto heat setting' irons. I like being able to set the temperature I want, and keep it there.
Plus the reviews aren't too positive- with it being very conservative in how it determines its auto heat (I guess it has to be, better to not be hot enough than too hot and burn the clothes).

I ended up going with Choice's 1st placed "manual heat setting" iron (the top 3 were 1 Braun and 2 Philips- all of them auto heat setting- no manual override).

    Tefal Ultimate Pure FV9849Z0.

It's $20 more expensive than the top placed Braun, which is $179RRP… but it's a terrific iron.

I have large hands and it feels/fits perfect. Compared to my old iron I get my shirts done in half the time. Plenty of heat, plenty of steam, nice and weighty so it smashes out the creases quickly.

    • Yeah auto heat sucks. I had a $220 azure elite that I was gifted then tried a cheap manual heat setting one at a hotel and it is like night and day.

  • Back in stock but with slower delivery

  • The auto shutoff and auto temp are very convenient. I have a Philips steam generator with these features. So far the vest we've had.
